    Not really....it has been proven that it is a chemical imbalance in your head...but then again if you put you mind to it you can achieve great things.... i have come a long way just by forcing myself to be "happy" or at least act that way untill it started to feel real to me.....and some people just hang on the bad things that make them depressed....so i guess it can be both optional and not...
