So what's the difference between loving someone and being in love?

My boyfriend asked me the night before last if I loved him or if I was in love with him. And I didn't really know how to answer.

Just thought I'd ask and see what you're oppinions were.

Im not entirely sure either. I know there is a difference, but I think that specific line varries from person to person.

    But I think...
Loving someone is loving them for them. The way they talk and laugh, their whole personality. You love the pserson for who they are, and all their flaws, because thats what makes them, them.
Being in love is loving the attention you get from someone else. Having someone to go out with or call when you need someone to talk to. Loving the gifts rather than the giver.

Do you kinda get what im saying? A good way to tell which you fall into, would you still love the person you are with if they started dressing down, didn't bring you flowers every week, or didn't take you out to dinner with your friends? Answer that honestly and you will know where you fall.

    ^^ I have to disagree

You can tell anyone you love them.
You can say it to your parents, siblings, even the family dog.

You make it sound like nothing. I love my family, unconditionally, which is true love. To say the love I feel for my s.o. is greater than the love I feel for my parents or sisters I would find insulting, it is not greater, it is different.

Being in love is more intimate and romantic, but it is otherwise, the same as love.

^I agree. Love is love. But there are different kinds of love. Romantic love and family love.

^Don't apologize. You were simply presenting your opinion. We are all right in this subject because technically, no one truly knows the answer to love.

You didn't offend me it just felt a little blase, the way you put it.

"You can love many people . But you are in love with only one."

^ You pretty much explained it all!
