Cliche' in Poetry

I know a lot of poets who write good pieces of poetry but in most cases I find that most of it is either cliche or merely implies the same thing

Now, not that I am an expert, a lot of poems written about Africa are..... well....cliche? See all
I see or hear is " I cruise the African streams, I soar the African skies, I feel the African breeze and creep under the African soil" But really now, what is really happening in AFRICA???????

A lot of the time I go into the sad poems and I see "woe is me". Not written like that but the meaning is the same.
In nature poems there's always tranquility/peace.
In love there's always 'above' or 'dove'.

    I don't really have a point here.

Well.. my question, does it really matter?
poetry is about the expression of self and if poems are similar, does it matter? isn't about the way it's written?

you both have good points but does it matter? =] , lol :D

[i don't intend to sound super harsh, lol i do respect what you have said =)]

Well Its good to qrite poetry but if you deliver the same message all the time then its as if you're just moving in circles....consider that

But if it is the same thing over and over again then I guess you life evolves around one thing so there's only one side of you that you're showing????!!!!!

It matters, to me, a lot. I cannot stand reading the same thing over and over again.

    Amen to that

I suppose, but then again, maybe you want to express that "one side" of yourself, and maybe not the other as such. and you could probably even look at your poetry and say you are cliche, because everyone will be at one point.
and then again, you have to think about people also. poetry has universal themes and that's why they are cliche right? so... how do you expect people not to be cliche when we all experiance the same thing??

sorry, terrible at debating, rofl :P

well, the whole point of this topic was cliche poetry and how you didn't like it, so what im saying there is how can you expect the poems NOT to be cliche, which you said you disliked, if we all experiance the same thing (universal themes)

dunno if im any clearer :S
