Hello fellow members, I am starting something new called the, "Ask Joe Column" you can ask me any questions pertaining to myself, to you, advice seeking, love, friendship, etc. Ask me about almost anything at all, as long as it applies to the rules and regulations of the site.

If I throw my Soc. book at my prof. and claim it was stress related do you think I would be able to retain my A in his class? Why or why not? What if I calimed that it was a Soc. experiment?

Sherry: haha nice question. Well personally I would have to say that you most likely would get kicked out of the class and it would be considered an Faluire or a withdraw from the class. You see, even if you calimed it was a soc. experiment, I don't think it would fly, expecially in todays day and age.

Then again it depends on the type of professor he/she is, some professors like expirements/self thinking and anaylising students. Now I'm not saying to go throw your book and find out...lol I am simply stating that some professors like to see out of the box thinkers and they encourage it most of the time. They like to be challenged, well some professors do, but not all.

I am having, er I hate saying this, guy troubles. I do not know how to ask the boy I like if he likes me or if he'll date me. I get incredibley shy and I change the topic. Help?

Krista and Kaitlyn: If you are not confident then that's how you'll act. It's like dogs, they can sense when someone is in fear of them and they take advantage of it. Samething with humans except oposite, the person can sense that you are not confident and that you don't think it will workout, and then they end up leaving/not wanting to get in a relationship. It's all about you and how you feel about yourself and project yourself to others.

Perhaps if you have a hard time asking via conversation, why don't you write him a note telling him the way you truely feel.

A note? Going to have to disagree here Joe. It might get in the wrong hands and it could make things worse. I'd say try to find out a little more about him thru his friends but don't be stalker girl. See what his likes and dislikes are. Build up the confidence and walk up to him when he's alone and make conversation. Guys tend to act like jerks when with friends. Don't think negative that things won't work out before you've giving your best shot. And most of all just be yourself, guys can feel nervous as well they just try to act cool about it.

Jamie: Very true about guys just trying to act cool in front of friends, at least at the age period they do.

Thank you for your input, it made me smile because you jumped in and disputed something I said which your cousin tended to do quiet a bit when she disagreed. :) Brought back memories, which made my heart flutter and made me smile.

Krista and Kaitlyn: I'd like to add to my original post to you...never give up, believe in what you want and don't let others dictat your emotions/feelings. You are you and no one else is you.

Build up your courage and as Jamie said walk up to him when no one is around, even if you just talk with him alitte each day, if that's what it takes to build your confidence, then go for it, confidence is everything, if you aren't confident in yourself, then he sure won't be.

In blant terms it is like a dog, if they see you are scared of them, then they will take advantage and try and attack you.

Taylor christina: Britt, hasn't been on the past couple days, at least last time I checked she has not been on. Anyways, it is most likely she forgot about her thread since it's been a while since anyone has posted in it. At least that is my thoughts on this question, I may be wrong, I may be right. ^^Well theoretically no one really got what they wanted in the story, it was just a dream. Dorothy hit her head and became unconsious. Everyone in her dream, she knew from the farm that she lived on. So theoretically speaking Toto, didn't go through this adventure nor did the other charecters, only Dorothy did via her dream. So nothing happened to Toto, which means everything stayed the same.

If drain-o clears the drain, what would brain-o clean?

^^Well I would say brain-o cleans out all the fatty content within your brain, except for the fact that your Brain is constructed of fatty tissues, therefore, I wouldn't have a clue what it would clean, not to mention that there is no such thing as Brain-o anyways.

What if someone died in the living room?

^^So what, that happens all the time, I'm sure it happens faster than I can snap my fingers. It's called life. People (usually the funeral homes/people who do embalming) will come and pick up the body to get it ready for the Funeral.

What is the diameter of a square?

^^It depends on the squares dimentions, and yes it is possible for a square to have a diameter, since diameter simply means the longest distance between two points on an object.

How do they get the "Keep off the Grass" sign on the grass?

^^Simple. They put the sign on the grass before they put the chemicals/grass seed (or whatever it may be) down on the ground, therefore they don't need to go on the lawn to place the sign.

Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?

^^Because the termonology is a type of slang. Therefore, making it mean the samething simply because humans decided to make it mean that. You can ask that question about almost any type of slang. Example: why does, ill/sick mean the same as awesome/great?

Why do hot dogs come ten to a package and hot dog buns only eight?

^^I think you flipped the amount of each product, usually it is 8 hot dogs and 12 hot dog buns, anyways here is a quote from the movie, "Father of The Bride" that I think explains it pretty well:

"...I want to buy eight hot dogs and eight hot dog buns to go with them. But no one sells eight hot dog buns. They only sell twelve hot dog buns. So I end up paying for four buns I don't need. So I am removing the superfluous buns. Yeah. And you want to know why? Because some big-shot over at the wiener company got together with some big-shot over at the bun company and decided to rip off the American public. Because they think the American public is a bunch of trusting nit-wits who will pay for everything they don't need rather than make a stink. ..."

Why do flamingos stand on only one leg?

^^No one is really sure of why they do it, but why do we stand on two legs when we have four limbs? Dogs/Cats have four limbs and they use them all to stand/walk. Can you explain that? You can't, it is normal for humans to stand on two limbs as it is normal for Cats and Dogs to stand on four limbs, therefore; it is normal for flamingos to stand on one limb when in the sleep/relaxed postion.

Joe, why is it in this day and age, children mature faster both emotionally and physically...why do they have to grow up faster now?

Backwards Hourglass: Food industries are putting ingredients and chemicals in the food that get people physically addicted. This ultimately makes people eat more of the product. Those products that are used in the industry are mass produced on a huge scale. For example cows are feed special food that has chemicals in it so the Cow grows faster so the industry can sell more products at a faster rate of return.

When this happens, the customer is ingesting those chemicals that the industry uses to raise/mass produce the products. This causes child to grow faster physically; Kids are going though puberty at an early age, girls have full grown breasts at 11 or 12 instead of later in life, boys reach puberty at around 8 or 9 instead of even later in life. The cycle will keep expanding this way due to the simple fact that the human race keeps ingesting chemicals that industries use to make their products grow faster so they can make more money.

As for emotional development, it can be due to the same reasoning, but I am not 100% sure.

Why is it that every girl that's ever written a poem, there is at least one poem about a guy who didn't even notice them?

Deana: I miss a lot...I miss the walking on the boardwalk with an ocean breaze lightly passing by, I miss going to an ice cream shop called the Sea Shell, I miss going to the beach (I mostly went to Stone Harbor), Crabing/fishing, the fresh warm ocean air and the sand between your feet, I miss the Rio Grande and the little Diner/Resturant next to it that had the Donkey, and much much more!!!

Star Static: Because that is life. It happens to everyone, even guys. That's just the way it is, you can't do anything about it, it just happens that way. Now I wouldn't say, "every girl that's ever written a poem" But a majority of every girl, and the reason for girls writting about that is because that's what they tend to think about, were as guys think about other things like, "what's the score on the game!" or "want to go to the bar to night?" etc. Girls tend to discuss these matters more than guys, usually to their other friends via the phone or in groups, etc. At least that's my outlook on this...

Dear Joe-
My boyfriend of 2 years just dumped me about a week and a half ago because I kissed another guy. Now he is dating another girl already. He claims he "can't stand being single" even though he was single for almost a whole year before I started dating him. Why did he move on so so quickly? Is he just trying to spite me by attaching onto the first girl who said that she liked him?

Oh, and another- Why would he tell her that we have been apart for 2 1/2 months when it hasn't even been 2 weeks?

Mistakes happen, and this kiss/break-up very well could have been mistaken/portraied in the wrong way. Seeing that he has moved on to another relationship so fast and that he is telling this girl that you've been apart longer than you really have been makes me think one thing: He only wants a girl to get in her pants so he can be pleased.

And yes, it's not just that, but he is most likely doing this to get back to you for what you did. Perhaps he thinks in the end you will feel bad and reverse what happened and try to get back with him etc.

Personally I can't tell you what to do, but this is what I would do, forget about him, obviously he doesn't like you, if he did you'd probally have an argument and then be mad at eachother for a while and that would be it. So like I said, in order for him to leave you and go to another girl after you both have been together for 2 years, just simply tells me that he is either not ready for commitment to a long term relationship, or he doesn't really cherish you the way you thought.

THANK YOU! I see that now... it hurts but you know what? I think that it has helped me move on a lot faster because he wants nothing to do with me and he just seemed like he didn't care. At least, not after our year and a half mark.

I kissed another guy because I wasn't getting the attention I wanted from my (at that time) boyfriend. It seemed like all he was doing was using me.

I dont know if im doing the right thing in hating my dad even though he doesnt want me or want to know me. he abused me and told me the world would be better with out me here... i dont know why but i keep going back for a relationship but keep getting hurt ending up in tears and becoming more depressed. I dont hate him too much i think i dislike him for what hes done/doing. Is it Wrong or right for me to have feelings like this towards someone who bought me into this world?

Star Static: I did some research and came across a story that appeared in some women's magazine quiet awhile ago (more than 6 years ago). Unfortunately, I don't know the name of the magazine or the author of this story. However, the overall jist of the story was that most of the symbols pointed back to the Savior. Here are some of the symbol and what they mean.

Red symbolizes the blood that Jesus spilt to redeem us from our sins.

Green is the color of life. Therefore, green symbolizes the potential for eternal life that Jesus' sacrifice made possible for all of us.

The evergreen tree is green all year round. So, it also symbolizes eternal life.

The flame of a candle, the lights on the tree and the star on top are all meant to remind us of the new star that appeared to proclaim the birth of the promised Messiah.

The bell is a reminder of the bells worn by sheep. They provide a means for the shepherd to find the sheep that has wandered from the flock and become lost. They symbolize our pleas to the Good Shepherd for guidance back to His flock.

The candy cane is shaped like a shepherd's staff. It symbolizes the responsibility that we all have to be shepherds, to help each other and guide each other back to God.

Finally, the bows on the top of the presents are symbolic of brotherhood. It should be a reminder that, just as the ribbons are tied together, we should all be tied together by the knowledge that we are all God's children and, therefore, brothers and sisters.

These are just some of the symbols of Christmas. Some of them come to us from pagan religions and were incorporated into Christianity as the pagans were converted. They probably had other meanings to the pagans. However, the important thing is what they mean to us today. To me, they serve as reminders of just what it is that we are supposed to be celebrating with this holiday. If you think about it, you can probably come up with additional symbols and meanings of your own.

As for you next question, I'd need a lot more information before even considering what to tell you. What are his hobbies, his likes, dislikes, what kind of music/movies,etc does he like, etc.

I wouldn't know where to begin, first of all I don't know him or what he likes, second of all, why as others what to get for someone when it can come from you and your heart, just think about what he likes and dislikes, and get something that comes from the heart or even make him something...a gift that comes from the heart is always better than something purchased just to get the gift done with...

LiveLoveLearnDie: This is a hard topic for many to talk about. As I see it, you will always have that mental scare that he caused you. Having been abused is very hard for one to cope with by it self, let alone the fact that it happened to you by your father. But here is a little advice I have for you:

Stand up for what you believe in, fight for it, don't sit and ponder or sulk, just don't, it makes matters worse. Stand up tall, and tell yourself, I can do this, I can handle it, I am strong, and no one can push me down, because when I get knocked down I get up again...And when I get up again, I am strong and more knowledgeable than before so don't get in my way this time...

Keep a positive mind, and positive things will come from it, keep a negative mind set, and well negative things will produce from it...It's like the old saying, "you hang around a dog, you'll become one" Well you hang around negative thoughts, negative things will happen, and if you hang around positive thoughts, positive things will happen...

Stand up, think strongly about stuff, and be positive in every way, shape or form, and you'll be happy, and nothing can get in your way.

In my eyes, you can get over that fear, anything is possible, don't underestimate the impposible, however; I must say that anyone who abuses you or any of your family members should seek help before attempting to join in a relationship with anyone. In my eyes he is still dangerous and harmful if he hasn't been helped/seeked help.

And no, it is not bad to feel that way towards someone whom has brought you into this world, of course you'll always love him regardless since he is your father, but deep down inside you know that it would be harmful to you and your family if you try to unite with him. If you want to rejoin with your father than by all means, I suggest that your father seeks help since he is in some way mentally disturbed seeing as though he abused you. Once through "rehab" or some type of help, then I would say it would be safe for you to try again to recreate a relationship with your father.

Note that this is all just my opinion, you can agree with me or totally disagree with me. But remember this is just my opinion and nothing more, I don't know the whole story behind your life and what has happened therefore as Scientists like to say, this is nothing more than my "educated guess"

My dad would never seek help or be offered help from those around him, in his eyes he has not done anything wrong.
I know he needs help before I do anything with him...but I have still been to his farm (with someone) and I have been threatend, which scares the crap out of me. but I still have this urge to go back.

LiveLoveLearnDie: You are welcome! If you want to go back I advice you be a friend with you, not another girlfriend, but perhaps one of your guy friends, or maybe a bunch of friends together, that way if anything does esculate from you being there then you have plenty of help with you.

Unsaturated fats are typically liquid, like oils where as Trans fats are a type of Saturated fat, which usually are in a solid form, like butter. So yes they are both fats in which are very simular except one is liquid and one is a solid.

Ok why does it bother my ex so much that I hang out with two of his best friends. I'm really close with them but he seems to get mad or tense whenever I'm around?

Gem: The sky is blue due to the fact that it is "blue light" in which many people call it. There are many different colors that are emited from the sun, and blue is one of them. It disipates into the atmosphere and to the visible human eye it is the color blue.

For a more simplistic view of how this works, look at fire (which is basically the sun...just a bunch of different gases) Fire is many different colors as well, there is orange, yellow, red, blue, etc. in the different phases of the temp. of the fire. Which is not totally true for the sun, but very close in when looked at closely.

Simplyfrigid: yes and no. A percentage of it is saturated fat which is in a "solid" form and the rest is considered lipids.

Disasterpiece: From my knowledge doing damage to your body will always hurt weather it be a small amount of pain or large, it will always cause pain.

Most likely because Americans don't give a crap if it breaks since they can just discard the broken one and replace it. And also because a huge majority of people are just plain imbecils. That is my only reasonings why cell phones are broken yet a huge hit/demand.

The saying is in referance to kissing the blarny stone (not sure if I spelled that right) Kissing the stone is supposed to bring you good luck so of course the next best thing would be kissing an Irish person for good luck, hence the saying, "Kiss me, I'm Irish"

It's basically the same thing as someone being alergic to a dog or cat and won't get an alergic reaction unless they actually touch them. Some people are only alergic when they actually come in contact with whatever it may be, however; seeing as someone is allergic to pine sap and not the tree is differet...kind of. It can be due to the fact that they are allergic to the particular chemicals that pine sap is constructed of, so technically speaking it is very possible that they will only get an allergic reaction when in direct contact with the pine sap, and not the tree since trees don't have pine sap all over them unless it is cut somewhere.

LittleMissReality: Most likely because he doesn't like the fact that it is a possablility that you might get together with one of his friends. Just knowing this bothers most guys due to the fact that they don't want to think that their best friend is messing with their ex, it's just a no no in the eyes of guys to mess with an ex or current girlfriend and visa versa with girls I would assume. Basically it can mess up their relationship with eachother if it gets intense enough. Now I'm not saying not to hang out with his or your friends, I am merly stating what I think may be the reason he is bothered.
