What is the average amount of time you sleep each night ?
Not much, I'd say bout 6 hours.

    What do you dream of?
many things really it depends on the mood I'm going through, but mainly I'm fighting or running away from somethings.

Do you think that dreams have meaning?
Definatly, I believe strongly in my dreams and I usually try to figure out their meanings.

  • LoneStar

What...? your boyfriend does not dream
maybe he does not sleep... :/...?

    Actually yes
being blind does not mean you cannot dream
maybe blind people can see in their dreams
because in dreams anything can be possible
    anything can happen

  • forevertobeart

I know that it's possible to not dream, but in most cases that's because you haven't been asleep long enough to enter that certain stage of deep sleep where you actually dream. But usually if a person says they never dream, they aren't remembering it. They're just stubborn in admitting it, and I'm not sure why.

  • Teria

What is the average amount of time you sleep each night ?
Normally, I sleep 9 hours a night. Sometimes I find it odd because when I was younger I was told I had to get a certain amount of sleep and not much more by my teachers. And they always told me between 8 and 9 hours of sleep was what I needed. I rarely get more than that, and NEVER get less, lol.

    What do you dream of?
I dream different things all the time. Sometimes my dreams have sequels but not often, or I'll go back to bed and try so hard to continue on with my dream to see what happens (sometimes it works). But, they usually deal with minimal happenings through-out the day/week. Like in a movie a house burns down, therefore in my dream a house will burn down. Or I have a conversation and it somehow comes into my dream. I dream of Will Smith and other hot guys a lot too. Especially when I watch movies with him in it.

Do you think that dreams have meaning?
I don't think that ALL dreams have meaning but I think a lot of them do have meaning. I always tend to dream what I'm feeling sometimes. Like, will smith is hot to me. Therefore in my dream I'm dating him. Or with my last boyfriend. When I 'thought' I wanted to be with him I dreamt of other guys. And, there was a time where I truly wanted to be with him and then I dreamt of being with him. That was for a week straight, but then it went back to other guys. It was like I knew I didn't want to be with him but I was obligated. Lol

Ahaha. Every once in a while I dream of a different guy than my boyfriend, but I dream of him also. What do you think that means? ;D

I read that dreaming of another man while in a relationship can mean a fear of commitment or losing that loved one.

Though I think it is human nature to try and find the perfect partner ...... To ubgrade for the newest, the best man out there. So maybe dreams of adultry, even if in the dream the man is your boyfriend, is our nature comming out in our dreams.

Or maybe my view of people are low and negative. Maybe.

Let me know what you think a "new" relationship in a dream means to you .

  • Teria

I think that it means the need or yearning for a relationship. Even if you're in one and you're having that 'new relationship' dream, it could mean that the spark has been lost. Hopefully, if you believe that person is right for you, the new relationship dream is about him/her. Well, I guess either way you can do things to get the spark back, but I think dreams can let you know when you're past someone and ready for someone else.

^That's what I am fearing most..

  • Dark Secrets

    I agree with simply fridgid.

Although I've been having this wierd dream lately where I'm married to this skinny tall guy, we have silly arguments in my dreams and then he comforts me with ice-cream... wierd, cuz I don't know a person with his description, and before I used to have dreams of the same guy but I could never see his face, and now that I can see it we argue, which means that we never used to argue before I saw his face.
I guess it means that there is something I've been waiting to get, and when I finally get it I probably wouldn't be satisfied with it and I guess the ice-cream means that it's true that I won't be satisfied with what I get but it would still be more comforting than not getting it..
    What do you think?

  • Teria

^ I agree with your conclusions on your dream. I would have to say though, that maybe the ice cream is portraying the whole 'he loves you enough to make things right'... Or at least try?

^^ CHYNAdoll: Sometimes the things we fear turn out for the better, for ourselves and for others. Don't make a habit out of it though by dwelling on it, sometimes I think we just have dreams. And, then we let them get to us and change our lives for reasons that are quite ridiculous. Just make sure what you think is what's right.

    - - - -

I've been having these dreams about boys that I used to go to school with. They're ALWAYS playing basketball and I'm always dating one of them.

I think what that comes from though is our YMCA was just re-built and the new basketball courts they have in there are awesome! And, then I ran into some girls I used to go to school with up on the track, haha. And, we talked for a long time about how the boys at the school had changed and gotten hotter. So, I think it's just one of those concidence (sp) dreams.

I like them though, they don't make me doubt myself or my decisions. And, they don't make me look forward to things that AREN'T to come. (:

  • forevertobeart

Thanks for that. I really shouldn't be psyching myself out. A dream is a dream, and I've only had one of those recently. Things are a little different in my relationship right now, but I know we'll get passed it; we've gone through so much worse. :)

Good interpitation simplyfrigid, I think there is something more to it but I can't tell cuz I don't know how your life is going... do you by any chance have a crush on someone on the basketball team?

So has anyone here had a freaky nightmare which you didn't understand but woke up unexpectidly upset or scared?
I did once, I dreamt that a young guy died in a masjid (prayer place for muslims) , but the masjid wasn't done and it was winter and his name was the same as my uncle's, I didn't know who he was and yet woke up sweating, shivering and crying. So this year at the same time in my dream my uncle died and his funeral was launched from the same masjid (his was the first) call me paranoid but it seems to have come true.

  • Teria

I've only ever had one nightmare that I remember. Though, I do know I've woken up sweating or frightened many times.

The one that I remember I've had many, many times since I was about 10. An average of 15 dogs/cats chase me and there's always two big huge matsiff/pitbulls or something. And, I always get caught at a brick wall and then I wake up.

I've never been chased by animals. And, I don't recall ever being in a stressful situation during these times.

    - - -

I don't think that's being paranoid. (this may sound odd, and I'm not trying to make you sound crazy, we all do it) but, I think we have dreams and as events happen in our everyday life we replace those events with events in our dreams. Say you were at a house in your dream and you were at a restaurant in real life. YOu somehow 'remember' your dream as a restaurant OR features that the restaurant has.

I can't say that for sure. But, I think that it's possible.

I also believe in God and know that there could be cases where things are put in our dreams to happen in our future or that we should do. But, I realize that not everyone believes in God. And, I think that my other example is quite realistic.

    ^ Aww thanx

I've been chased by many things in my dreams: sheep, dogs, a white horse, soldiers, helicopters, my dad, my grandma.. a little kid, but in real life I haven't been chased by any of those... except when I was a freshman in intermediate there used to be a tiny chiwawa which used to chase me, I remember ducking when I got to the fence then running, but I know that was all my doing I provoked by running it wouldn't have went after me if I'd walked past calmly. I've had bad experiences with dogs, one was when I was about five a huge labrador jumped on me, knocked me down and started licking my face (I thought it wanted to eat my face) and I started screaming then my friend's brother called the dog and he got off me, then he took me home shaking like crazy. so that's why I used to be afraid of them, I still am but I'm more calm around them now.

So how much influence would you say your life experience has in your dreams?

We are finally off the dreams and on to mental disorders.

now in your opinion what is the worst mental disorder to have?
do you think Dr.s sometimes take the labels too far, IE: ADHD or ADD?
do you think drugs are a good cure all?

  • Teria

Medicine? I think it's a good thing to help those in need. So many people are on the verge of going insane or dying, and it holds it all off. It might not cure, but another day with your loved one alive or sane is a good day. A great day.

Doctors don't really take it too far, or from what I"m aware of. They do multiple tests and everything for those they think are in need. They go the whole nine yards, at least in my area they do. And, they make sure these people actually have the disorder

As for people taking it too far? They most definitely do. They take it to the extreme. Like saying "I think I've ADHD" ... it's the same as "You're gay". A complete insult to those who are gay, or in this case those who have ADHD. I guess it's mostly the youngens and they're still immature, so yeah.. lol

  • mrsmoore

I definetly think doctors jump way to easily into giving labels and medication to people, but i'm no doctor! I wouldn't know one way or the other.

  • Dark Secrets

I think the worst mental dissorder to have would be something that effects not only the emotional status of a person but also the physical status of a person and makes that person unable to live life and not capable of doing the easiest tasks, worst is probably depression cuz it's very wide-spread.
I do think the dr.s take the lables too far, it's different from a person to another metal dissorders have degrees and some are just there for a short period of time in a cycle like depression and pmsing, people don't need to take medication unless it's really really serious and there is no way to treat it otherwise, and that's what many doctors don't understand, based on their studies they treat the patient by the book, so they go by the rules they've learnt and don't really explore and investigate the person, their personality and the reasons for their dissorders. I'm not saying that all doctors are like that but so many of them are, that's why many young kids are going on anti-depressants and other medications these days.

First off i would like to thank everyone for their answers and opinions.

second i would like to have you guys step back and look at this next question without emotion or personal bias.

now it is a fact that homosexuality has been classified as a mental disorder.

my question to you is if you think it should be one due to the distress it causes the person.

if you think about it....it does cause distress.
weather "in the closet" or "out of the closet" one feel either the pain and stress of hiding a part of them or the pressures and views of society as they are ridiculed and looked down upon.

so, is it a mental disorder?

now, before you think i am homophobic. i would like to state that i am not. i am actually bisexual. and no one who posts here should attack another for their post on this view. remember that everyone is different and respect that please.

  • Dark Secrets

I don't think homosexuality is a mental dissorder, it's a choice a person makes whether concious or subconcious, either way you can't "treat" someone to become straight, it's their opinion and unless they are convinced otherwise they will have the same feelings.

  • sweet escape

To keep on the topic of homosexuality...

    1. how would you react if your child was gay or lesbian?

    2. if you did have a gay child would you "fix" them if you could?

  • Dark Secrets

I would love them all the same, but I would talk to him/her about it, shed light on the subject, make him/her understand the whole thing. Then it's all up to him/her, they go through the experience, see if it works and then decide.

  • adriaan

Eeeek. This topic's doubled since i was last on here. I'll start with the dream things first.

I get about 6-9 hours of sleep each night, I have some crazy thing about never going to sleep before midnight. I don't dream at all - actually, that's not quite true, I dream about many things, but I almost never remember them unless they are vivid. And 99% of the time they mean nothing whatsoever, so I don't think they have any meaning with respect to your life. They are to do with your subconsciousness, after all.

And about homosexuality, I certainly don't think it should be a mental disorder at all. And if my child was gay or lesbian it would be the same to me whether they were straight, or could play piano better than me, or could say really good tongue twisters, etc. It changes nothing.

"Fix" them? I wouldn't know what you mean there. But it doesn't sound good for the child.

    Ok
    thanks for the answers

we are now learing about dissociative disorders

    1. do you know what dissociative identity disorder( DID) is?
    2. do you think that ppl fake it to get attention?
    3. do you know anyone with this disorder?
    4. if yes to #3 then what is the disorder really like?

  • Teria

    1. do you know what dissociative identity disorder( DID) is?
Well, I knew what it was but I didn't realize that's what the correct term was for it. If that makes sense?
    2. do you think that ppl fake it to get attention?
Actually, I don't think they do. I'm sure there are a few people in this world of millions and billions that do, but if you get down to the nitty gritty - no. I don't think that people can truly fake it for attention without family or friends or doctors knowing that they're faking it. And, if they go that far then I'm sure there's something else wrong with them. But, I don't think there are too many people that use this disease as an attention getter.
    3. do you know anyone with this disorder?
Not really. Though, I know someone who you could say goes through some of the symptoms. Which just goes back to depression.
    4. if yes to #3 then what is the disorder really like?
I couldn't completely answer that. Just because someone has symptoms doesn't mean that they have the disease. But, I know that whatever is wrong with the person that I know is hard for the people around him. So, I'm sure the fullfledged thing is even worse.

  • sweet escape

If you have watched the movie Sybil then you can see that a person can fake DID.

after that movie came out more people with the disease came "out".

taking that into consideration, would you change your answer to my #2 question above?

  • forevertobeart

People can fake anything if they really wanted to. Not necessarily for attention, like someone else said, they could be mentally ill and just plain sick. It reminds me of that movie The Ringer. It was just on a couple of dayp ago. :P

  • Dark Secrets

    1. I have heard of it before, but I didn't know exactly what it was
    2. No, it's probably the tottal opposite, they're trying to get the attention away from them, but if they actually come out and say hey I have DID, then they probably want someone to be there for them, so yes they do want attention.
    3. No, at first I thought this was the dissorder where the person just fakes an identity, because I have a friend who -in rumors- has that, not has to different identities where he has two or more.

    Ok... I got one.
What do you think about using virtual reality to treat phobias?
I've heard that it's pretty good and I think that it would work because I think that people with phobias have them because they feel they have no control over them, so with virtual reality they'd be the ones in control which will also help them gain it in real life.

    Hey
i am so very sorry that i was gone for so long.
i just, well, life sucks at the moment.

but i do have a new question.

what do you think of when you hear the word tourettes?
what in your life do you think would change if you had it?
do you know anyone with it?
how is their life affected, if so?

  • Dark Secrets

What do you think of when you hear the word tourettes?
    uncontrollable movement.

what in your life do you think would change if you had it?
I would be really frustrated and wouldn't be as social as I am now, because my biggest fear is not haveing control over my life and it is as bad as it is without the disease.

do you know anyone with it?
    No
how is their life affected, if so?
I dunno, but today there was a documentry about it in the morning (made me get late to school) the kids in the documentry were living a hard life and getting teased at school, they had no stability, sometimes homeschooled sometimes went to school and their social life isn't really easy. One of them hit herself uncontrollably until she bruised herself and the worst part is no one can stop it for them.

We are now learning about OCD....although i dont need to learn much about that...lol

so my questions for you are:
    1. do you have OC tendencies?
    2. does anyone you know have them?
    3. what are they if yes to 1 or 2?
    4. how do they affect your or the person you know's lives?
    5. what do you know about OCD?
    6. what type of OCD do you feel is the worse?

  • Pamela

    1. do you have OC tendencies?
Yeah, I don't walk on the black stripes of the level-crossing and I tend to not walk on the cracks on the pavement... when I have for example some sort of food with 2 different tastes, I vary them after every bite...
It's not like I believe something bad will happen if I don't do these things... it's just like I do them automatically

    2. does anyone you know have them?
    No

    3. what are they if yes to 1 or 2?
    Already answered lol

    4. how do they affect your or the person you know's lives?
    x

    5. what do you know about OCD?
    A little

    6. what type of OCD do you feel is the worse?
    I have no idea

  • Dark Secrets

    1. Yea, lots actually. I have to step in the middle of tiles or bricks if there are any around, can't step on the lines, I get frustated when I can't but I don't do that all the time. To me everything has to be where I left it and any piece of furnature has to be put parallel with the wall or any line around. I don't like my clothes to get wet, and if they do I can't stand them. I also tend to wash my hands a lot, It's not enough if I wash them once after they get durty, oh yeah and I can never have someone standing on my left, they have to be on my right, if they get on my left I swoop to the other side (I just discovered this one a few weeks ago, well, actually my friend did). And I hate seeing dotts on letters, if they're alone that's fine but on letters I hate that ( The english language only has dotts on i's and j's but the arabic language has way more than that so that's what I mean by dots on letters) I actually erase them off the board at school , this habbit gave me a nickname.
    2. no, but everyone has tendancies... Does MONK count?!
    3. answered that one.
    4. -------
    5. I know that it's short for obsessive compulsive disorder, what it is, how it affects people who have it and people around them, and a little bit about why people get it and how to treat it.
    6. Whenever it controls relationships with people around the person who has it, no one deserves to live alone because of something like this.
