    Be prepared

    Prepare you mind
    for what life might
    send your way.
    Don't be afraid
    of what you might find.

    Make sure that your mind
    is ready to receive
    the best of what life has to offer
    you and your family.

    Prepare your mind
    for what you may find.
    Make it strong just in case
    the bad things in life
    happen to come your way.

    Reception, Perception.

    You think that your life is this way by choice
    Life isn't a hand your dealt, or a roll of the dice

    If you think you're a loser than that's what you are
    If you think that wealth is measured by the type of car

    It can be measured by the people who come to see you pass
    Watch your body as it lowed six feet beneath the grass

    It's going to take time for you understand, woman or man
    If you have your mind ready to recieve these rewards, than say, I can.

    If you only work your body then you'll be a shell
    You may live longer, but down the road it will be hell

    If your going to train, then you should include your mind,
    And anyone who tells you this isn't the truth, is asinine.

    Cheers, Sole x

    Edit: Poem

    Half Full or Empty?

    Walk before you run
    Don't fall if you try to fly.
    Think before you speak
    Don't stumble telling a lie.
    Choose your moments wisely,
    Always look them in the eye.
    Never think 'Forever' -
    One 'Hello' means one 'Goodbye'

    Anticipate the weather,
    Remember calm before the storm.
    Hope is not belief
    Don't count your chickens 'til theyre born.
    Confide in those you trust
    But never ill-inform.
    Is your glass half full or empty?
    Your heart cold or warm?

    Always be yourself
    Never let them get you down
    Take what you need, not what you want
    The shawl and not the gown
    Keep happiness and joy,
    Don't be a Pierrot clown
    Live life with Love in your heart
    It's easier to smile, than it is to frown.

    Mind Games - by Cyber_Saiyan

    Wondering aimlessly through life
    With no ambition, dreams or desires
    A shell of a man with the mind of a boy
    Waiting until my life expires.

    Searching for the perfect answer
    To a question that was never spoken
    Trying to repair the shattered pieces
    Of a heart that was never broken.

    Too focused on an end result
    To open my heart and my mind
    Never able to see what was there all along
    Keeping my emotions too confined.

    A wise man once told me
    To prepare myself for greatness
    Life is plentiful with much to offer
    As long as your mind remains hate-less.

    Understanding the hidden meaning
    Of this wonderful advice
    Led me to a new philosophy
    One more truthful and concise.

    With anger in my heart
    And a mind swirling with confusion
    I had never given anyone a chance
    I was busy living my illusion.

    Having opened my heart and mind
    From the closed state it was in
    My life is now flooded
    With new family and friends.

    So my advice to you now
    As you read this last line
    Be true to yourself and kind to others
    Go now and prepare your mind.

    Preparation not Desperation
    `````````````````````````
    Preparation
    Prepare your life
    Prepare yourself
    Open your eyes to the world
    Prepare it for unspoken words
    Unspoken actions
    And listen.
    There are many things you may experience
    But are you ready?
    Can you stand to bear the pain?
    Can you stand tall when it all goes wrong?
    Do you know what the rain really feels like?
    Are you ready?
    To feel the love put into this world?
    To be wrapped in the arms of someone you love?
    To smell the scent radiating from their skin?
    Are you ready?
    Is your mind prepared?
    To receive the best of life?
    Prepare yourself.
    The worlds wonders are about to explode and surround you.
    Edit:
    I talked to Novalyn Grace and she had a reasonable explanation to why her poem wasn't in yesterday. But, she has it finished and since I haven't started judging yet I'll allow her to enter it in the contest. She hasn't posted it here, because she wasn't sure if she was disqualified or not.
    Her poem is:
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/life/poems.php?id=1099097
    And, even though it's not posted in the thread it will still be judged.
  • Teria
    16 years ago
    These are in no specific order. The two that didn't make it to the next round will get their comments as soon as the entire contest is over. I figured I'd wait until the end and just keep track of who gets what comments and do it at once.
    1. Cyber Saiyan.
    2. Novalyn Grace RRL
    3. Sole
    4. Dark Savior
    - - - -
    Also, I've decided to just keep this post for all 3 rounds. I think it causes less confusion and such. So, once you get your poems finished just post them in here. I'll get the rules written up and post them, as well as PMing you the rules.
    ROUND TWO ENTRY.
    How Television Changed My Life
    =====================
    My car is brand new
    With every option available
    The best of the best
    Nothing is comparable.
    My house is three stories
    Over five thousand square feet
    The largest on the block
    No other can complete.
    My TV cost more money
    Than you make in a year
    Better than anything you have
    I just wanted to make my point clear.
    Watching the nightly new
    on my insanely large TV
    I caught a glance of a child
    Living in horrible poverty.
    Tears streaming on his face
    Clutching an empty bowl
    Filth covered his entire face
    The image shattered my soul.
    Looking around my house
    At the materials I have collected
    Feeling sick to my stomach
    Seeing the world I have neglected.
    Running for the bathroom
    To splash cold water upon my face
    The reflection in my two thousand dollar mirror
    Shows my expression full of disgrace.
    A life changing moment
    That Caught me by surprise
    As I was sitting in my house
    While another hungry child dies.
    Having taken everything for granted
    And never looking back
    My blood starts to boil and my skin start to itch
    Like a raging addict withdrawing from crack.
    The next month passes quickly
    As I sell everything I owned
    The greed is gone as my new life begins
    But previous sins must be atoned.
    Raising every single dime I can
    I must travel to that place
    To spread love those who have nothing else
    Than the desperation upon their face.
    Building schools and supplying medicine
    To those who need it most
    The War of Hunger continues to rage
    But I am ready now to man my post.
    One last statement remains to be said
    Before I leave behind my old ways
    Every little bit helps to fight the cause
    And there is much more money that needs to be raised.
    Please take my words to heart
    You too have the same power
    I cannot write this poem any longer
    My plane leaves in under an hour!
    Life is a contest
    remember the 1st of December, it was a cold winters day
    I thought I was the one who had so much dismay
    Until I met a man, who some might say, had to choose
    Keep his family or he could fight and surely lose
    Why do people fight if they know they've lost?
    Don't they know what it's going to cost
    I'm sorry that this was how it had to be
    I'll leave you alone, no more from me
    I guess I can understand that I'm a bother
    but it's not my fault we don't have a father
    I hate this world and pray each night that I die
    for tomorrow I'll no longer be the apple of her eye
    I ran from the hospital to the morgue
    I wanted it all, her love I did horde
    eventually in the future you'll come to understand
    happiness doesn't come with money, but sometimes goes hand, and hand
    If money is the root of all evil, then let the sinning begin
    and if the richest man is the devil, then that makes me his kin.
    People should be thankful for what they have, as I am too
    You should remember that there is someone worse than you.
    ROUND TWO ENTRY :
    `The Clairvoyance of Gratitude.`
    At night, between the deep ins and outs,
    I find proclivity in remembrance.
    The residue of Day on my eyelids
    Sticks like molasses and brings repose.
    Past is passing gently through me.
    As my body reclines I am encompassed.
    Electric images twitch through my body
    Replaying Time in vivid Technicolor.
    In these cinematic memories lies perfection:
    Familiar eyes, smiling lips, comfort, recognition,
    Each detail of my life sprouts wings ---
    And flies itself into the corners of my heart,
    Where willfully it abounds.
    What sunlight may take for granted,
    In the nakedness of night reveals,
    Facile or callous, Today's why I'm breathing,
    And Tomorrow is why I cannot stop.
    While sifting through reality,
    Of every ticking clock,
    Every conversation,
    Every broken heart,
    Every penny eared,
    On the brink of dreamscape I count:
    Blessing by blessing by lesson learned.
    Tonight I found that Gratitude is simply Memory,
    Which tucks itself within the HEART,
    And not within the mind.
    It's upon every eve of slumber,
    Something in my soul awakens,
    And I find fortune in Life's mysteries,
    Smiling --- as I drift to peace.
    Third round:
    Novalynn Grace RRL
    Cyber Saiyan
    - - - - - - - -
    This round I'm only giving a quote. I think that it has so many options for topics that it's almost unfair to give a certain one. So, as long as your poem somehow, in any way shape or form, fits the quote you're good to go.
    Due Date: Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
    QUOTE:
    When it's three o'clock in New York, it's still 1938 in London.
    I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still keeping up with this contest. I'm waiting on Novalynn Grace's poem, she's given me good reasons so I've given her more time. Soon as she gets that in I'll choose a winner between her and Cyber Saiyan and everyone will get their comments.
    I might start before it's finished, considering I'm quite busy for the next two months. But, I promise they'll be done within the next week or two. I'll make time for it.
  • Cyber Saiyan
    Any updates?
  • Teria
    16 years ago
    I'm still waiting on Novalynn Grace's poem. If she doesn't have it in within a few days I'll go ahead and declare you the winner. She had good reasoning for it to be late or I wouldn't have put it off this long. And, on top of that it's a busy time of year, haha. So, I'll give her until Sunday evening and if she doesn't have it in by then, I'll continue on with things
  • Teria
    Novalynn still doesn't have her poem in. Therefore Cyber Saiyan will be the winner of this contest.
    That means you get 10 comments. If you want any specificly done, let me know. (:
