Is Racism One Way?

OK so this may sound harsh to some people and I don't mean to offend, but this is how I feel and what happens in my area. By the way I AM NOT RACIST.

If I was to go into College tommorrow and make a racist remark against a black person (which of course I wouldn't) then it would quite rightly be taken offensivly and dealt with. Same applies if I was to make a remark/joke about any other 'minority' group.

However if a black person or someone from a 'minority group' was to make a racist remark about my colour or race (I am white and British) then it would not be treated in the same way.

People often tend to ignore racism that is aimed at white people and I think this is wrong. Surely racism is racism regardless of which group of people it is aimed at. In my College there are numerous 'white' jokes said and people laugh them off, we have to, the lecturers son't take them seriously. I think that 'white' racist remarks should be treated and dealt with in the same way as 'black' racist remarks.

Sorry for rambling on. I would again like to stress that I am not racist and did not mean to offend any one.

Please let me know your views.

The thing with racism is that certain races have gone through so much turmoil and suffering. Now I'm not saying no white person knows what it's like to live in fear and poverity - but you need to understand that the whites were very, very unfriendly towards blacks, hispanics... etc. for many, many years in the past. The reason why no one really thinks much on 'white' jokes is because of all that history. Even today, some white people tend to stereotype against blacks (and they don't do it as a joke), whether it's done intentionally or not. It's wrong to turn the other cheek when the resiprocal is done, but what can you do?

I can understand what your saying

Regardless of how its percieved by society RACISM is clearly a two way street - look at the dictionary definition...
