I'll take "Funny how time slips away" It's an older one, but you didnt say whether or not it had to be new or not in your rules. If it does have to be new, please let me know. Also, if I make it that far, I would also like to take "The Gambler". How does that work? Do I wait to find out if I am one of the top 3 winners before I submit it? Kenny Rogers is a personal favorite of mine, so I am looking forward to this contest!!

    Funny how time slips Away...
    by ReBecca

    Time slipped away
    Seems now I'm just weary.
    Settled in,
    But now, so leery.

    Experience taught.
But so many emotions just wasted.
    Joy given,
    But not enough tasted.

    Waking up in the morning,
Just trying to get out of the bed.
    Knowing it's all the same,
When everything's been done and said.

    Seeing myself,
    The girl in the mirror.
    Wanting to be more,
But knowing happiness isn't any nearer.

    Friends have come and gone.
    Family has a past.
    Keep striving for something,
    Something that might last.

Wanted to have so much more,
But never knew how to attain.
Stop hurting the ones I love,
    Stop causing them pain.

    How do you give something
    You don't have inside?
How do you stop running away
    from where demons reside?

    When you've made mistakes
And want to make it right.
    How do you grow up
    And finally see the light?

    Everything is changing fast.
    Want so much more,
    But yet keep picking
    At the same old sore.

    Is there ever a time
When it just all goes away.
A time when things are simple
And you just know your way?

    Or is it that,
    You get that with strife?
    Keep on kicking,
    And know it's only life?

    I never see more
    Than my own pain.
    Ignoring those I love,
Even when I know it's not sane.

    Sometimes you love someone
But yet it's not quite enough.
    You could give more,
If only you could get over the other stuff.

    It's hanging you up,
And not making you what you should be.
It's putting blinders on your eyes,
When you should see the things
    you're supposed to see.

    ReBecca-

If you won first place for the poem you entered, Funny how time slips away, and you entered in The Gambler, instead of having 5 comments you'll get 7 comments.

It just basically means that if you enter the Kenny Rogers bonus, you get more comments if you win.

I forgot to mention the poems/songs are suppose to be new, but I'll make an exception for you only because you didn't know and I didn't have it down when you entered.

    Thanks.

The Cold Hard Truth & Hello Darlin'

  • Beautiful Chaos

    Hello Darlin'

Haven't seen this place in forever
Couldn't bear too think of you here
Unable to separate you, from what remains
    A shell, cold and alone

Your spirit was too warm to live here
    You must be somewhere beautiful
That captures all the joy you brought
    Times I cherish

Walking barefoot through the green grass
My footsteps echo through the ground
Into depths where my heart lay buried
Forever bound to the one I love

In days gone by I couldn't bear it
    Visiting this hollow ground
    But nature has called me
    Soon we will be together

Buried side by side after decades apart
I pray your spirit finds its way back to me
    To greet and guide me
Absolving me of this wretched ache

The years, though kind, inside were lonely
    Almost motionless in their madness
Today though, I move closer to you
One sullen stone suddenly a soaring bird

    The Cold Hard Truth

    You never could take it
The honesty that dripped from my lips
    It wasn't sweet enough
My mind was bitter in your eye

It was the same tuneless dance
    Pointless questions
    Unwanted, asked for answers
    Silence winning in the end

When did this friendship become so tedious?
    My spirit is already tired
    Days feel like years
And I am sure the years will feel like centuries

Your blind obsession with pretty lies
    Won't take you very far
    Look where you are
Standing in the same place I left you

    They're both long, haha.

    - - -

    LUCILLE

She learned at an early age,
    how to fend for herself.
She brought hope to the children
    that laid by her bed,
    and dreams the ones...
    with words left unsaid.
She found true love too many times,
with thoughts that this one would work.
    But, I've given advice,
with the least amount of hope.
    "Go prepare yourself for battle,
you've yet to fight the war.
Try and settle down this time,
your hearts getting a tad bit sore.
    Retry what you've failed at,
    remember what you've won.
    Bring your soul some ease,
this I ask of you -
    Lucille, my darling... Please."

    Broadened her future,
    she let go again...
    just to return to pain.
    She cried, she screamed
    that life's unfair.
    As she started to dream
of the past and what it seemed.
    Her mother, now gone..
    Oh what had she done?
    To deserve such a mess.
    I've given advice once again,
as she carves the pain into her skin.
    "Go prepare yourself for battle,
you've yet to fight the war.
Try and settle down this time,
your hearts getting a tad bit sore.
    Retry what you've failed at,
    remember what you've won.
    Bring your soul some ease,
this I ask of you -
    Lucille, my darling... Please"

    Forever she mourned
    for what she had lost,
    regretting over time.
    The thoughts unending,
    hope unveiling,
    and dreams gone to sea.
    The death of her love,
    the loss of her son...
Oh, how could this even be.
    I've given advice,
    with hope for a cure,
    I couldn't ask for more...
    "Go prepare yourself for battle,
    you've already fought the war.
    Try and settle down again,
your hearts a tad bit sore.
    Retry what you've failed at,
    remember what you've won.
    Bring your soul some ease,
this I ask of you -
    Lucille, My darling... Please."

She loved a lot in her time. [SONG]

Her words tremble at my touch,
as she tells me of my grandmother's past.
Forever and a day to match,
the tears that fall in millions.
    And, she stutters unto me...

"She loved a lot in her time,
she cried a lot in her time.
She worked a lot in her time,
dear boy, she loved a lot in her time.

    The two year tantrums,
    she went through so much,
    what seemed six hundred times.
Hundred per kid, hundred per day,
she'll never let them fade away.
Two husbands and so many dogs,
what a life to live, you see...
She cried so many nights to sleep,
forgetting what she was to dream.
For, they sat upon the midnight moon
and fought to hell and back.
    They torched and screamed,
    and pinched and kicked:
    The lovers of her heart.

She loved a lot in her time,
she cried a lot in her time.
She worked a lot in her time,
dear boy, she loved a lot in her time.

I'll tell you ,son, of her life,
the times she lived through the strife.
The things I recall, emotions she felt...
I'll tell you all just so you know.
    The times she failed,
    oh the times she failed.
    They've been forgiven
    but a thousand times.
    The children she birthed,
    oh the children she birthed...
    they've forgotten the past,
    they've forgotten the past."

And, the tears that fell as she spoke,
    they broke my lonesome heart.
You could tell it's more than meets the eye,
as she told me the story that made her cry.

"She loved a lot in her time,
she cried a lot in her time.
She worked a lot in her time.
Dear boy, she loved a lot in her time.
It's more than you could ever dream,
the loves of her life, they worked as a team.
To show her the way and show her the hope,
'twas but six children birthed one day,
meant to teach their mother to cope,
    before her days faded away.

    And,
She loved a lot in her time,
she cried a lot in her time.
She worked a lot in her time,
dear boy, she loved a lot in her time."

Simplyfrigid - You were suppose to have both poems in by DECEMBER 11th. You turned yours in on the 15th.

    May I ask the reason?

Sorry, I thought that I had replied to why my poems weren't turned in on time. >_> I don't even remember now, haha. If I remember right that was the week my family and I were baking and I wasn't home but a few hours out of that week. I'm not sure though, eh. I don't want to make excuses that don't exist. I'm sorry, I didn't even realize until I'd read that. And I thought I'd replied back.

Thanks for the ranking, too. It means a lot
    Would you do:
I still stand here strong, cold as stone.
    City of colour
    Falling from grace.
