aborition

I think it all depends on the personal choice of the person having the abortion and the circumstances that this person is living in. For example, if the person was raped, and would go on hating he child forever (I'm not saying this always happens, but it does) than perhaps they should get an abortion for the childs sake. Likewise if they could not feed or support the child; it all depends on the circumstances....

    Yeah, it's a woman's right to be a murderer. Isn't that special...

umm, for a long time ive been pro-choice... a true american... i guess.... ive never wanted to have an abortion.. ive looked at it as killing the potential of life so therefore i considered it murder... but at the same time i still think women should have a choice, if they dont want to have the baby for whatever personal reason thats their choice and decision..... However.. now that there is a possiblity that I may be pregnant it brings a lot of things i hadnt seriously thought about into perspective..... i dont know for sure whether i am or not... i have to wait til my period... but as a soon to be adult i need to think about the what ifs....
now that i may be in the position where i have to choose... im caught between abortion and having the kid.... giving it up for adoption is out of the ?... i couldnt do that.. if i had it id have to keep it...
having the baby at seventeen isnt the smartest idea... yes it would be giving life to this gorgeous wonder of God, but in the long run it may not be a good thing.... yes i have a steady bf who would take care of me and the baby both and not disapear... but think about how this would affect the baby in the longrun.... because we had him or her... well life would be a struggle for the baby... we wouldnt be able to give him/her everything she/he deserves because we're young adults... we'd both have to drop out of high school... he'd get a job, id do the same until the baby was born... then id stay home with him or her... we'd be struggling all of the time... and i dont think its fair to the child to put them through that when they never had a say about it in the first place.... to puit a child through a shitty life because i wouldnt get an abortion doesnt seem fair....
on the other hand, i dont want to have an abortion... i dont want to kill the potential of life... of life that my boyfriend and i created... of life that is part of me... i dont want to kill a baby that i could hold and take care of and cuddl e and love with all of my heart and more... in some part of me, i want to have a baby... i want to drop out of school and take care of one.. i want to buy all kinds of baby clothes... baby food, and baby stuff.... i want to give birth to life that my boyfriend and i created so badly it hurts....
but then im dragged back to my previous argument..... im really in a bind... and i'd like to hear your opinions on my situation...
    much love,
    Amanda

For a human to be human the brain must be functioning and sentient. That takes time.

That is why abortion is feasible. A clump of cells does not have a soul.

-I do agree that the life has not YET been produced or can be considered to have a 'soul', but people would make the argument that it will evolve into a human being.

As for the whole concept, I do not believe in god so Heather you can't make that an argument or bring it into here.
I'm not sure what I think about abortion. I think that by all means if the woman is raped she should have the right to choose, no questions asked. But, if a woman gets pregnant when having unprotected sex, it's her responsibility to have the child. However you can't make a law stating that, of course people would abuse it and not follow the written text.

It's a living at conception Brett. People argue that it couldn't have a soul and doesn't even have arms and legs so how could it be a living thing. It is, there is already a plan for it. All living things have souls right? Or has some would argue only human beings? A baby is a living being upon conception, so wouldn't it have a soul? It doesn't have to be fully developed!
I hate this topic really because so many try to argue such silly points. Not that what you say is silly Brett.....but this topic gets way out of hand. People feel so much differently about abortion that it can get heated.
I've seen a lot of people say "pro choice." It's a woman's choice and she should beable to decide without being critized.
Well, I could go decide to run over my grandma and that should be ok because that's the choice I made, right? I should be able to abuse my children because it's my choice? If the world was PRO CHOICE it would turn to shit!

My point is that until the embryo develops past stem cell stages, makes a brain and starts thinking and feeling the soul cannot have anything to latch onto.

In another thread I make the point that only approximately 20% of fertilized eggs attatch to the uterus and approximately 80% are flushed during a girl's most enjoyable period. Does that make any sexually active girl who has had more than two periods a serial killer?

If fate and destiny are used as arguments it's a very weak argument indeed because if fate is fixed then an aborted foetus was always destined to be aborted.

A girl finds out she's pregnant, there is a living being growing inside of her. She was careless and she decides to just kill her baby. She can't deal with life so she murders a life that she created. It's silly, sorry.

The way that I see it is that if the baby is going to be born into a life of poverty/ illness/ neglect then I see absolutely no problem with it. What is the point in bringing some innocent baby into the world just to put it through torture?

All Done....I have said in earlier posts that I could see it being considered if the mother or baby was at risk or if the mother was raped. I personally would give my baby the chance at life no matter what happened to me or what the risks were. But I could see abortion being considered under those circumstances. You can't just read one or two posts and think you know exactly how I feel. I think abortion should be illegal. You take adult responsibilities on when you have sex and you should deal with them. I know many girls who have had abortions, even a couple who have done it several times. To some it's a form of birth control. I also know girls who have had abortions and to this day it haunts them. This I think is a ridiculous debate to have because people have such different opinions.
People have babies every day living in the projects, making minimum wage, with four kids already and some how they make it work. There is always a way, so not having the money is not an excuse.

That, Natalie is a very impressive post. However, I still disagree with you.

All Done abortion should have controls on it. I don't think that it should be legal for a girl to just decide she don't want a kid. However, if she were a rape victim I think she should have the option. I don't agree with abortion in any case but in certain circumstances I can see a woman not wanting to go through with it. I wasn't contradicting myself, I explained how I felt.

What about licensing on child birth? It works in Japan quite well. If you can prove that you can financially support and adequately raise a child then you can apply for a license. I think Tokyo has a limit of two children.

  • Bret Higgins

Apologies, it is China and the limit is one child per family.

but in china they don't have abortions. Its worse than that, they just throw the newborns out into the streets when there old enough to walk and claim that the child was never born. I don't think abortions are right though. I mean if the girl has the guts to open her legs than she better have the guts to take on a kid. Thats my theory on it. The only time an abortion should be done is if the baby is endangering the life of the mother or the child won't live throught the birth or if its a rape victim. And even then and abortion should be a last resort thing.

David - why should the girl be expected to take on a child because she opens her legs? Shouldn't it be the male also as it takes two to tango buddy?

  • David Paul

Tell me this. Does the guy go through the abortion process or the girl. Your right, it takes 2 to tango. Not only does the guy have to do his thing but the girl also has her part. thank you
