Not for the Religious.

Think to yourself, was there anything before this Earth...Was there another Earth or a planet that had life on it that went through the same problems like sickness, crime, overpopulation, pollution...etc and it got to the point to were the planet ended and all life ended, like were our Earth is heading to.

  • Wasted Fake Smiles

Hmm i've never thought about that. i suppose it is possible...i guess that if we somehow had proof that the Earth was not the first planet with life on it, i would be more likely to believe it.

but this is tripping my brain out to think about. lol...certainly an interesting question..

Why does this exclude the religious, maybe it would be better to say, not for evangelicals.

  • Michael D Nalley

Evidence is being collected almost everyday. If we find the Neanderthals were less ritualistic than modern humans could we assume that religion was not a contributing factor to their extinction?

  • Bryce

I love the feed back, it trips out my mind thinking about it and i don't mean to offend anyone about "not for the religious" thing, i just did that because i wanted open minded people and not for people to get in a big argument. There is still evidence of how Earth even began or formed but just theory so there could still be evidence out there that no one has found and it makes me mad that we will never know because i'm sure we will all be dead way before they even find anything.

Given the scale of the universe I find it pretty silly to think that we are the sole inhabitants.

But I do have a problem with this, and just think about this, how does order come from chaos? Don't get me wrong, but I have a hard time believe that there isn't something bigger than us

Well I'm religeous and I concider myself open-minded.
yes I do believe that there might have been another plannet before us and they had problems like us, then distroyed themselves, it's very likely and as for evidence, there are some things that exsist and we can't explain, plus there are many things to be discovered, knowledge is never-ending.

This discussion reminds me of a post long ago. It was said that a reporter once asked Mahatma Gandhi what he thought about western civilization; Gandhi replied; I think it would be a good idea.

I don't think Gandhi had a problem with organized religion I believe it was the disorganization of religion that he found most troublesome.

The evolutionist believe that the organism that adapts to its environment is a natural selection and survives

If we believe in science it should became evident that man has the power to alter his environment and the technological advances are progressing faster than moral development, and we must decide quickly if we want to be a part of the problem or a part of the solution.

The order from chaos is a summary of ancient Egyptian mythology

You guy's are kind of blending chaos theory and entropy together and applying it to something it was never meant to be applied to. Thermodynamics has little to do with human qualifications of morality and crime, so theories of how matter should react in a closed system seem a little silly to bring up. I always see people trying to apply both entropy and the chaos theory to scenarios that they have no bearance on.

"Thermodynamics has little to do with human qualifications of morality and crime,"

But some politicians could pass laws about acceptable carbon dioxide levels, making it a crime to produce too much green house effect which would lead the world to global warming

Some morals would reward forbearance of destroying the natural environment

Your question is quite broad... however you assume that alien civilisations would interpret the same concepts of good and evil... And lets not forget that its because of religion (Judeo-Christian), that brings the western judicial system into existance... So you shouldn't rule out those who were religious...Lol

Anyhoo, I think people are putting human concepts to an otherwise completely alien subject... Lol

Some of the answers here made me laugh... especially the comment " there was no order in the roman empire"... Although I paraphrase

Unfortunately I have been in the chaotic places on this planet it is not wise to go to unless you are packing some heat. and feel that I survived by the grace God rather than the survival of the fittest

  • adriaan

Strangely, I must confess it would seem unlikely unless that particular planet was somewhere light-years and light-years away, to borrow some Star Trek-ish jargon momentarily here :)
A planet near here, perhaps?...That would be unlikely. But as I understand we got to where we are (through history and discoveries of science etc.) by chance and it would be a very, very slim chance for another planet to do exactly the same thing.

  • john

There is a famous mathematical equation called the Drake equation that is used to estimate the number of planets in our galaxy that have intelligent life. Using this equation, even with conservative numbers put in, there should be 10-1000 planets in our galaxy with intelligent communicating life on it. now that is only our galaxy, at this point scientists predict that there are roughly 125 billion galaxies in the universe. So there could be upwards of 1.25 x 10^12 planets bearing intelligent life on them in the universe. That is a pretty huge number, now to consider that instead of that number the number is only 1, being us here on earth, would be very foolish.

here is a link to drake's equation:

^^ I don't think anyone is discounting the possiblities of intelligent life, but certain people are discounting the actual process and progress of it reaching at the level of our mordern societies...

Micheal: You carrying protection is in essence "survival of the fittest"... because you know there are those that are fitter and they could destroy you, so you protect yourself by packing heat... If you were an animal, you'd be the squid...Lol

Can you imagine how difficult communication would be even if we spoke the same language, it would be eight years at least before you received a transmission; that's a big ten four

  • john

Theoretically you could communicate data instaneously over that distance using the quantum entanglement theory, they've already had some success transmitting data over a short distance instaneously and it is the basis for the work in quantum computing. We arent quite there yet though haha.

here is a brief description of quantum entanglement, if you think of the up and down states as 1 and 0 you can see how it would work well with binary:

"Quantum entanglement is a quantum mechanical phenomenon in which the quantum states of two or more objects are linked together so that one object can no longer be adequately described without full mention of its counterpart even though the individual objects may be spatially separated. This interconnection leads to correlations between observable physical properties of remote systems. For example, quantum mechanics holds that states such as spin are indeterminate until such time as some physical intervention is made to measure the spin of the object in question. It is equally as likely that any given particle will be observed to be spin-up as that it will be spin-down. Measuring any number of particles will result in an unpredictable series of measures that will tend more and more closely to half up and half down. However, if this experiment is done with entangled particles the results are quite different. When two members of an entangled pair are measured, one will always be spin-up and the other will be spin-down. The distance between the two particles is irrelevant."

So all we have to do is overcome the O'Reilly factor?

  • Teria

"No, because if there were we would have found some sort of evidence of such by now, "

^^ We have found evidence but not enough evidence for complete knowledge or whatever it is. I learned in 9th grade math class about all that. Our teacher would teach us math then we'd move onto the interesting stuff, lol. Topics such as this. He showed us books upon books and all that goody with proof of other existence and everything. But, nothing is complete. So, your theory about the whole evidence of us being left behind - yes it will be. But, will there be enough for some more idiots not to have complete knowledge of EVERYTHING WE DID?

of course not. but there's been many things found showing other living creatures, other deminsions, all that stuff. but i guess you could say we have tons of beginnings and no middles or ends.

"Think to yourself, was there anything before this Earth...Was there another Earth or a planet that had life on it that went through the same problems like sickness, crime, overpopulation, pollution...etc and it got to the point to were the planet ended and all life ended, like were our Earth is heading to."

I am Christian, but if I were to keep what you all call a realistic view on things I'd say that our Earth is not ending. Many people believe many things ( I do believe things as well) but using a 'sound' mind we're perfectly fine. Over population has been around forever. It's like the food chain, the sickness you speak of is going to take that population down a bunch. Some will live some will die, those who live with reproduce. Crime is crime it's just as bad as it was 50 years ago but it's more known now-a-days. Back then there were dads and brothers raping sisters and mothers, people theiving and bribing. BUT, back then it was secret. There was no news, there was hardly any radios, there wasn't much but the mouths of human beings. Therefore, the whole crime thing wasn't known. But, I'd put money on it that there was more crime than ANYONE IN THIS WORLD is aware of. Still is today. We don't know a quarter of the deaths or any of that today. Just the picked through and chosen ones.

If there was life before us and it ended somehow, then I feel bad for those people. Our world might come to an end (my religion believes that) but with a 'sound' mind you have to realize it's life. Life goes on through-out tons and tons of years. We might die off and the dinosaurs might come back.

    Who knows?

Maybe robots are to come next.
Less emotion would be better, our country is too dramatic and emotional.

There is one thing I am certain of, and that is as long as there are creatures that are aware that this world is spinning there will be drama and emotion.

There has actually been a study ( I cannot remember the name of it at this exact moment, sadly) of how likely it is that another planet can habitat life.. the percent is slim, and billions of factors were put into it, but the fact is that there is a percent, and we're part of it, are we not?

Something that interests me about this topic is whether you were speaking of a place BEFORE here, at this exact same spot, because if that were what you were expecting to find... I highly doubt it, although its still a possibility.

IF you were speaking of another planet somewhere out there that inhabits lifeforms that conduct mannar in the same way as we do.. I hope not!! We're destroying our planet, and doing it quickly, so I would never wish that on another planet and/or life sustaining area.

We actually believe that there may be lifeforms existing on one of the moons of one of the planets in our solar system, they're small, and I believe some type of fish living below the frozen oceans surrounding the moon, we're researching whether or not we can sent a probe or something out to dig deep enough to reach the water underneath the ice, but the likelihood isn't looking promising. (I cannot remember the name of the moon either! *sigh* this is not my day. I'll repost if I can remember the information.)

I learned all this having a discussion with a few astrologist's I met a while back, well. Actually it was just last year, but it was a very interesting conversation, i love things like this, so yup. :]

In my opinion i do believe that there could have been another planet and other living creatures and such.

We weren't the first things in this universe and we will not be the last.

We have in fact discovered evidence, but the amount is not enough to convince people that it is true.

Earth is being destroyed every day by its inhabitants[humans.] Obviously there are other things, some other planet has life forms just not like us. I believe even the planet farthest away from the sun has inhabitants that can live in those conditions, we cannot, but something else can.

I think Earth is like a grain of sand in a desert, and there are defanitly other planets or "places" out there with some sort of life on them. I think there is a higher power in this life but not as involved as so many people think it is.

There are so many possibilities. My friend and I were talking about it one night. Like what if God is actually the Devil creating this illusion of a heavenly place and it's all fake.

I have thought of so many reasons why would a God do this or let this happen. Why would god let babies die. Why would God let people get raped, tortured, abused, hurt. Why are criminals let free.

And one thing I have wondered is if, What if killers, and criminals are set out by god to punish people who have sinned or something. I'm not quite sure.

All I know is that this world is a crazy messed up place, and if there is a God, please help us.

  • john

^isn't that the dilemma of free choice?

  • HisBlueEyedAngel

I think the same way...See we really don't know what life really was. Well let me put it this way we don't know the real truth we just believe what people tell us.

some say many different things were here before us. Some say god put us here...but how do we really know that god is real...we just read the bible and believe that it is true.

we don't know any of the people who wrote it for all we know it is just some made up thing and god isn't real.

I still wonder if there is another world. Like say you go to space and it is so far away that we can't even get to it because we don't even know how far we can go before we come to a stop.

I really could go on forever about this...just because I want to know so many things and wonder what the truth is really.

I think the title's a little bit judgemental, but anyway.

    Atheist logic go:

Right. I think it;s perfectly possible that this could have happened elsewhere, however, I very much doubt that they'd be human, simpky because the sheer amount of random chance that led to even the first microbes, nay, this entire world, existing, probably couldn't be replicated to produce 'more humans'. That's not to say they wouldn't ever be similar (Though that I doubt, personally) because, well. SOme life forms live off radiation. That is to say, the conditions could be unlike Earth to an unrecognisable degree, hence resulting in entirely different life-forms.

Anyway, I agree with that fellow, forget his name, who said that the sheer size of the Universe means that the likelihood of us being one in billions upon billions is... Ludicrous.

    Life is inconsiquencal unless we
    has individual decide otherwise. To
give meaning to our own lives
instead of trying to find the
    meaning. Destiny is not
    predetermined, quencadence dose not
    exsit, everthing has reseaon,
    everthing is oppratunity, but to
create your own destiny, then you
must reach out and grab at the
things that are placed in front of
you, for we has humans are lazy and
expect things ot fall into place,
and those that do not break out of
that and make things happen, then
it is that person that is
    unimportant.

that is all i have to say about life has a whole, so take it for what its worth, it dose not matter if life did live on another planet, it is what we has humans do with the lives we now live that truly matter. R u going to sit on the sidelines and let the world fall into place around you, or are you goin to take the oppertunities that are presented to you and make something of yourself
