Lenghty Contest w/ Multiple options

    15 years ago

    I realize this looks like a long post, but I believe the rewards are well worth it.

    - - - -

    Contest Rules:

    '1. Up to 3 options per person.
    '2. Up to 5 people per option.
    '3. Follow set rules for the set option.
    '4. Have poem in by due date.
    '5. Read the rules for your option carefully
    '6. I prefer new poems, but as long as they follow the rules then they're allowed.

    Options:

    '1. With option number one five people will have a chance to win 10 comments. These five people must write a poem titled "No bird is a free bird" and base it on a historical person. The historical person can be ANYONE of choice. If this person is not a well known person (and/or I do not know of this person) you are required to send me some sort of information about the person. Considering the poem must SOMEHOW be connected with the person. When you post your poem on here, you are required to list the name of the poem, the date it was written, the person it is connected with, and the way it is connected with that person.

    Reservations for option one:
    '1. Kenny AKA LoveStory - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '2. HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG
    '3. NyellMoonlight
    '4. xToBeWithYoux - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '5.

    '2. (FULL) Option two is quite a bit more simplistic than option one. Still five people will be given a chance to win the prize. The prize for this option will be 10 comments. Whoever reserves a spot for this option will be required to pick any painting/picture and write a poem regarding the painting/picture. The 'tricky' part to this is that you must somehow, creatively list 5 colors that are in the picture/painting in the poem. When posting your poem you are required to post the title of the poem, date it was written, link to the painting/picture and the 5 colors you have chosen.

    Reservations for option two: (FULL)
    '1. NyellMoonlight - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '2. Abortion is Never The Answer - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '3. Gem
    '4. T e m p s
    '5. ether - {Finished - Under Review}

    '3. Once again five people are given the chance to win 10 comments. In order to win these 10 comments the contestants must write two poems following some set of rules. There are multiple poetry styles to choose from, one website with a decent list is: www.shadowpoetry.com (go to poetry types). When posting your poems you are required to list the name of the poem, date it was written, and the style in which you are writing it.

    Reservations for option three:

    '1. Twisted Heart - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '2. Abortion is Never The Answer - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '3. T e m p s - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '4. xLilMissFrostyx - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '5.

    '4. The last option available also gives contestants a chance to win 10 comments. For these 10 comments the people who reserve are required to write a lengthy poem (15 lines - OR MORE) that is somehow connected with a single object. In this poem you cannot list the object in anyway but one must be able to tell what the object is by reading the poem. Descriptions must be limited and varied. And, the poem must be extremely creative. When posting your poem you are required to list the name of your poem, the date it was written, and the number of lines in your poem. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT post what the object in the poem is about. Once I have finished reading this set of poems I will PM the writers for what the object is. If my answer matches with yours then you will be considered for the 10. If not then you're disqualified.

    Reservations for option four:

    '1. HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG
    '2. Beautiful Chaos - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '3. That One Guy - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '4. ether - {Finished :: Under Review}
    '5. xTheEcstasyOfS uicidex - {Finished :: Under Review}

    - - - -

    Prizes:
    Obviously there can be a total of 40 comments given away. Though the set amount of winners won't be known until all poems are turned in and judged, there will be at least two.

    I will choose two out of five poems per option and list those HM's in a post. Thereafter I will return to those 8 poems and choose at least 2 winners who deserve 10 comments a piece.

    One person is allowed to win more than 10 comments if their poems are deserving enough. Hopefully there will be enough poems to meet the requirements and continue into the top 8 for me to choose more than 2 winners. But promises will not be made.

    _- - - - - - _

    Due Date: APRIL 15, 2009

    The due date for this contest will be set for April 15th.
    Obviously that's a long ways away, giving everyone time to reserve and write their poetry.

    If I don't have at least three people per catergory then I will not shut down the contest until there are at least that many. Giving everyone a fair shot of winning, rather than just the ones that enter.

    Can't Take My Eyes Of You (Triolet) (written 26th Feb 09)

    Gazing at you adorably, so lost in those eyes
    Overwhelmed with love, can't take my eyes of you
    Every day spent with you brings a pleasant surprise
    Gazing at you adorably, so lost in those eyes
    Euphoric you made your way in, saw through my disguise
    Always in my heart and thoughts, stuck like a tattoo
    Gazing at you adorably, so lost in those eyes
    Overwhelmed with love, can't take my eyes of you

    Triolet:
    Consists of 8 lines.
    The 1st, 4th and 7th repeat.
    The 2nd and 8th repeat as well.
    Rhyme scheme is abaaabab

    Playing The Victim (Triple Doditsu) (Written 26th Feb 09)

    Breaking countless promises
    Never knew you were selfish
    Using everyone you "love,"
    Don't need friends like you

    Plastering on pretty smiles
    But looks can be deceiving
    Standing in your false glory
    Think you're the victim

    Used to be closest of friends
    Can't take your crap anymore
    Wont help yourself; how can I?
    Get out of my life

    **Doditsu-Japanese form consisting of one four lined, non rhyming stanza, syllables going 7-7-7-5.

    Date: 15th Febuary 2009 (give or take two days)
    Line #: 24

    Throwing Clocks Out the Window Like It's Some Kind of Joke

    Been thinking about the weather, the roads and the vices both serve.
    There are these confetti insults in my pocket I've been planning to blow at you.
    Coloured paper, notes that make you feel a bit better,
    But they're always blue.
    With ink that reminds you of when you gambled with the lines on the road,
    Just for fun.
    Getting you closer to your static dreams,
    "There are figures, three figures standing there in front of me." Your dreams. My hopes.
    Wouldn't be so selfish as to think one of them is me (like the history books recall).
    Content with whispering lullabies,
    And when you're taken by sleep:
    My own broken melodies, they sound so well structured in my mind.
    And would you mind if you awoke half-way through?
    When I'm singing about wanting as much love,
    As I've seen passed to you?
    But not returned because one person could not handle that.
    So why do you get all the love in the world?
    I keep these water eyed thoughts, because they blur the lines on the face of the world,
    Of now and then; right and wrong.
    And when I'm not singing to your ceiling I'm singing to the sky and how I don't want it to take you away.
    I wrote this to you (yet not received) on yellow paper because you are like the song,
    Written about someone's sunshine, their only sunshine.
    If Jesus can part water can I play God and part the clouds?
    Why are your skies all grey?

    Inseparable~Licentia Rhyme

    Walking down the long aisle in a white dress,
    Their bright eyes meet, loving each other no less.
    Saying heartfelt words and vows meant for the two,
    Until the time comes where they both say, "I do".
    They smile and have a passionate deep kiss,
    And forget everything, for they are in bliss.
    His eyes remind her of honey, pure and gold,
    While touching his soft hand is pleasurably cold.
    The reception follows, with music and dance,
    He glides her across the floor, with such romance.
    They can't live or breathe without the other one,
    For he's the night moon and she's the morning sun.

    Bella tells her friend Jacob what will occur,
    But he doesn't trust Edward alone with her.
    She locks up those hurtful words in her full mind,
    And moves on from that point, not looking behind.
    Walking outside, just grinning as rice showers,
    Entering a limo, filled with sweet flowers.
    Time for their honeymoon, just taking it slow,
    But Edward won't tell her yet where they will go.
    Boarding a flight and stiffly holding his hand,
    Waiting anxiously for the small plane to land.
    Exiting the airport, a taxi awaits,
    He mutters silently, "its not even late".

    Then they ride smoothly in a beautiful yacht,
    Hours pass by, then she sees a small white dot.
    Bella looks up at Edward, completely confused,
    But he stays silent, his expression amused.
    Looking out at the sparkling evening waves,
    The chilly night dark, like thousands of black caves.
    Eyes closing fast, she drifts off to soundless sleep,
    All these memories she will forever keep.
    He wakes her up gently, she opens her eyes,
    And sees a private island to her surprise.
    Leaning in towards her, he whispers in her ear,
    "Our honeymoon awaits, my beautiful dear".

    Based on the novel "Breaking Dawn" by Stephenie Meyer.

    The Licentia Rhyme consists of 3 stanzas that have 12 lines in each one. Every line has 11 syllables. It can be elongated by adding on the following rhyming scheme:
    aabbccddeeAA, BBffgghhiiAA, CCjjkkllAA.

    I'll Succeed~Trois par huit

    Sunlight dawns,
    Past the moistened green lawns,
    Lies a crystalline lake, pure and blue.

    My vision is a blur as I run through the dew,
    The ground now a bunch of mud, sticking to my shoe.

    Heart pounding, racing with utter speed,
    I will sure take the lead,
    I'll succeed.

    *A Trois par huit has three stanzas that go like this: 3,2,3 or 3,3,2. The syllable count is: 3,6,9,12,12,9,6,3 and has a rhyming scheme of AAB BB CCC or AAB BBC CC. The last line of the poem summarizes everything up and should be the title of the poem. *

    Exposed

    Illuminated light seeping through the corners,
    The untold truth will be revealed in one step.
    Gazing up, he gives me his toothless smile,
    Assuring me to not be frightened at all.

    He opens the brown gate, as it creaks pitifully,
    And takes a big step inside, but into where?
    His grasp fades away, leaving me on my own,
    Golden sunshine reaches to me, blinding my eyes.

    My hand searches for his touch, needing his comfort,
    But he is nowhere to be found in this shining aurora.
    Trying to turn around back to where I came from,
    A voice calls out to me, soothing my heart and soul.

    "Stay my love, where you are standing, do not fear,"
    His words echoing from everywhere in the forest green land.
    A cold hand is placed on my shoulder, shocking me,
    "Look at me, darling, this is what I am in the sun."

    Turning to him, bewildered and astonished,
    His flawless body, sparkling and glittering.
    He then lies down, as still and calm as a statue,
    "Exactly why we can't be seen when the sun is out."

    Glimmering and reflecting the luminous light,
    Like thousands of pure jewels and diamonds.
    His marble lips barely seem to even move,
    Time seemed to carelessly pass both of us by.

    My feet automatically move next to where he's at,
    Resting my head down, I take a deep slow breath.
    He mutters, "You are not afraid, not the least bit?"
    My eyes joke , "What should I expect from a vampire?"

    Light laughter escapes from his lips, surprising me,
    He smiles so gently, "True, but you'll get used to it."
    My heart skips a beat, avoiding his eyes, I ask,
    "Edward, how long do we have to be together?"

    Turning away, his face revealed anger and pain,
    But he shook that thought off and whispered quietly,
    "I'll fight strongly for our love, you know I will,
    For what we have will always and forever last."

    I edge towards him a few inches more,
    Cherishing each moment we were together.
    Tracing the outline of his stone-cold lips,
    "You're the reason I live, the reason I breathe."

    Inhaling his sweet scent, careful not to push it,
    Mesmerized by his unexplainable true beauty.
    Holding his icy cold, smooth as marble hand,
    This is a dream come true, an untold fantasy.

    Sensational blue skies turn to red, as the sun sets,
    Darkness closing in, ending the blissful afternoon.
    We then find our way quickly back to the small gate,
    Where it all started, and hidden secrets were exposed.

    Based on the novel "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer.

    Almost I Saw A Vision
    Feburary 23, 2009
    ABC Couplet

    Almost I saw a vision of an angel in full birth
    Beneath the moon that hung a little closer down to earth

    Created by a master who had finely tuned the stars
    Dipped to the vestage wasteland a soul was torn apart

    Endevored to be seen upon the faded memories
    Forever trapped inside my mind a fight for sanity

    Gentle tappings came upon the wind's nocturnal fate
    Hastened now to fly among the struggles of the day

    In all the time of here and now to hold an angel's wing
    Just moments last forever and pure comfort it does bring

    Knowing that you sit inside a loving warm cocoon
    Lifts high your soul and places it upon the tender moon

    Most come and go without a hope of finding such a sight
    Nor have a faith to look among the stars that burn so bright

    Ommitting all the signs that tell of life or so it seems
    Perhaps they in their hopelessness regales it as a dream

    Quiet comfort lost to all who fail to see the moon
    Repeat the troubles they have faced and face it way too soon

    Stars shift in slumber of the heart as sure as soul shall break
    The angels lift a whithered one with love to shield the fates

    Unsure of all the signs that hold inside their wings of love
    Visions dance inside the brain as Angels fly above

    Will not a voice be heard in comformation to the heart
    X-uding moons defeat against the shining Angel star

    Yet still I swear an Angel came to offer comfort here
    Zipping through my memories to stay away my tears

    Love Song
    March 3rd, 2009
    Duo-rhyme

    Alas, my heart swayed with delight
    Love captured true my soul in flight
    Inside sweet arms I chanced to be
    Unhindered by the moon you see
    His lips were faint upon my cheek
    I had no course in which to flee
    Nor did I wish to be set free
    My heart was pounding rapidly
    Each moment was pure rhapsody
    The tender touches felt so right
    Beneath the stars that danced that night

    20 Lines

    Old Friends

    My fingers trace your golden glow
    Though years have worn you through
    Life can't get more beautiful
    Than lying here with you

    You bring some sense of sanity
    Though chaos lives within
    Madness is a simple thing
    When not in your own skin

    Imaginations swept away
    Heart beats fast then slow
    Enchanted by the little things
    Our friendship did bestow

    We gaze upon the moon at night
    Sink into the stars
    Fall asleep and never question
    Knowing what is ours

    Tuck you back into your spot
    Until your memory calls
    Glad to find you once again
    And sink into your walls

    Though I do have a question. If our object does not match your answer but upon hearing our answer you connect it, does that mean it is still disqualified?

    Title: Don't Reach Up To Meet My Pride.

    Greens of an avenue painted over with dust,
    Wilted sandpaper banister, melting at dusk.
    A pipe and a hook just to hang up a shirt,
    Worn every day, the white's covered with dirt.

    Knowing better than to skip a stair on the way,
    To salvation that is promised each passing day.
    Stumble, and your browns will turn into black,
    Wits in the corners with an apparent lack
    Of truth in the stories that you swore were right.
    Complaining to the day that just isn't light.

    Piped and hung up on a redeemed occupation,
    Browned clothes, the only to last the duration.
    Inked a napkin with the letters I, L and Y.
    With torn hands, it stained blue as the sky.

    Option One - No Bird Is A Free Bird
    Written: 4th March 2009
    Person: Icarus
    Connection: Icarus, a Greek mythological character, flew with wings of feathers and wax to escape his home. His father told him to stay away from the Sun, but he didn't listen, so the wax melted and he fell to his death, into the sea.

    If you need any more information just PM me :)

    ~~~
    Father.
    You speak coherent words,
    yet I cannot understand
    what you are trying to tell me.
    I want to fly,
    to be a free bird,
    soaring into the heavens.
    Zeus, but bigger. Better.
    What if I want to
    fly to my death?
    Would you grieve in pity,
    or bask in knowledge of joy?
    Pride radiates from
    this new body of mine.
    Wings of the bird,
    interlaced with wax.
    Falling to the heavens,
    glee caresses these lips.
    A smile bounces on my cheeks
    with joy never discovered before.
    Before now.
    Twirling and tumbling
    through this unknown world.
    The light beckons, calling.
    Heaven rejects this bird.
    Thundering through the skies,
    feathers tickling this dead man.
    I regret my ignorance.
    "Don't fly too close
    to the sun" you said.
    Did I respect you, father?
    No. So now I die in shame.
    Hurtling through this new world,
    death suits my abused freedom.
    No matter how hard anyone tries,
    no bird will ever be free.
    Colors: midnight blue, crimson, ebony,
    silver, black
    Midnight blue skies mirror an ocean
    which fed her soul with humid stanzas,
    betwixt the syllables, she's like a butterfly;
    sullen silence of arctic notes is her eloquence,
    inky elegance hidden under the wings of ghosts,
    like a fragile memory which resides on her shoulder,
    whispering, with a soft voice similar to the one
    which glided down her own crimson lips.
    Notes entangled in the ebony hair.
    Broken tombstones mirror the music
    that evolved between gentle fingers,
    under the silver of the moon which swore-
    her secrets will be buried under the black eyelashes.
    Abruptly the Wind Was Harsh Again
    I'm weird like that, loving to feel his heartbeat.
    ---
    Stale wind -- the kind that is so cold it rips at your bones and pulls you under, leaving you gasping for breath -- crushed itself into my lungs. of course I coughed, knowing that I'd never taste this frigid air again.
    It slightly saddened me, but I knew I'd get over it, with time. everything heals after time, they say, but this . . . I don't even think God could heal this.
    The wind grasped my face with such a harshness I had to pull back; a touch once so gentle -- could it really turn so misleading? Of course, just like all lovers, everything's so misleading. But I hesitated pulling back, for it was the last time. The last time the wind would brush my face and I'd feel it's fingers.
    And it makes me wonder: could I die from it? Most likely, but I'm not sure I'm worried about it. I mean, what's dying if the one existence you live for isn't even there anymore? The point is, I need you in my life and I'm as lost as Lucifer in H-ll. And I'd beg someone to save me, but like I said, God couldn't even touch this cracked soul.
    Again, I notice the wind; it brushes past my face, once again gentle, and I marvel at how beautiful it really is this time. I'd miss it's quiet gestures, I would.
    Abruptly, the wind was harsh again, not really wind anymore but a tornado shaking my soul. It interrupted my body and as I careened downward, and suddenly, I felt like I was flying. It was a curious emotion, testing the waters that science couldn't even break though.
    I thought to myself: falling really does feel like flying.
    and everything went dark.
    Option One- No Bird is a Free Bird
    Written: March 20, 2009
    Person: Juliet (From Shakespeare's Tragedy)
    Connection: Juliet, from the popular Tragedy of Shakespeare. Juliet and Romeo are torn within their families' feud, prohibiting their love. Juliet being heavily watched by her parents to prevent any connection and communication with her Romeo, wishing to escape yet ended in a tragedy.
    (Note: After from a recovery from a writer's block, I took the chance to work on a free-verse, though this one might not sound impressing, suggestions are really appreciated.)
    As black and white skim
    Through the colorless horizon
    A cold finger beckons me,
    Like a stubborn piece of ice
    Atop melted water, you softly scoop me up
    And play with me on your upper lip.
    Today, like illusions in front of my view
    Swirling with the wind, as it slowly
    Perish along with the unseen dusts
    Yet, the smell that remained in my thought
    Is like scented daisies from heaven,
    Your memory
    Even so,
    I will search for that one true love
    Unchain the shackle that keeps us apart,
    Subdue the limitless sky, and wash
    Our tear-stained pillows
    That accompanied us, during those lonely
    Burdening nights.
    As black and white skim
    Through a colorless encounter,
    Above the saddened sky
    Free me from the cell that binds,
    My soul within the world of shadows
    Like a bird that has escaped,
    From a cage with torn-out wings
    Wishing to be dispersed
    But tomorrow brings a new morn
    With your sweet, warm, ill-fated kiss
    Fill me with color as if it is the last time,
    The moon will shine upon us,
    And forever will I never be free,
    From the words we promised
    Till death, do us part
    Poem:
    Xx Roses Are Dead xX
    Violets are blue and roses are red
    But what do you do when the flowers are dead?
    Deep ruby petals turned to filemot
    Viridian leaves have all started to rot
    Light coral pinks and dark cornflower blues
    Dusky olive greens and some pale honeydews
    All of them wilted, misplacing their shine
    Losing the battle and race against time
    They wither and fall, drifting to the floor
    The beautiful colours are now nevermore
    Floating to the ground in a pile so neat
    They signal the end of a life pure and sweet
