    Okay plain and simple,
Does weed really affect a persons
    mind and his relationships???
My boyfriend has been smoking daily since
the age of 14 and is now 20.
    I'm just really curious.
    How bad can it be???

All depends on the person, it can go from one extreme to another, mood swings, loss of short term memory, it can also enhance and/or decrease emotional and mental problems, underlying or already present and known. He is your bf you should be able to tell how it is playing out, you are around him.

Aside from the physical effects, nothing can really be said in stone. There are some who do smoke and manage amazing relationships, as well as expand their own mind through meditation and the like - but there's also the opposite. It really depends on the person as to whether or not pot will cause serious issues. The best way to be prepared for it? Stay away from it all together :D

Take a look at twenty dollars then look at the portion of weed that your boy friend gets for say twenty dollars. Ask yourself why anyone would pay money for something that had no effect on the way they feel. Many feel it is misleading to say that most of weed users go on to harder drugs because a hardcore drug abuser may have also indulged in chocolate before they got hooked on cocaine. The defenders of weed used to think that it was safer than tobacco. Now the research suggest that weed the average joint has ten times the cancer risk that is in a tobacco cigarette

What an addict risks is healthy finances mental health physical health and relationships
    and legal freedom

If we define a disease as any unhealthy condition of the mind and body and we are not in the state of denial we know it is not cool to risk the natural chemical balance without a good reason in my opinion.

I believe we are chemical beings, but we are also spiritual beings

Demand can be a larger part of the narcotic problem

I was sitting across from a junkie when a judge was describing a crime where the suspects stole several narcotics. He said he would hate to think that that got all of the antibiotics as well

I new a woman the smoked weed daily and was very functional all the way to her death from cancer, by the way I would not say I was sure the cancer was caused by her use of weed.
While she was in her last days she preferred to refuse the morphine and opiates offered her, so everyone is different

Basically it is insanity. Governments could return to doing what governments have been doing best for centuries i.e. killing people, but that can be costly also. Out of all the meetings I have attended I never heard of anyone wishing they could be addicted to a substance. Most obese people do not wish to be that way. Anyone who has ever woke up to smell the coffee knows that drugs have been around a very long time. Maybe we should use governments and drugs only for healing in perfect societies.

Smoking weed has no shown long term effects, no links to increased cancer risk (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729_pf.html) and no signs of any brain damage (to the contrary cannabinoids promote brain cell growth http://www.jci.org/articles/view/25509/version/1).

if you want to take some time to learn the facts about marijuana, i recommend this video:
    http://blip.tv/file/1356143/

its long, but very interesting and informative.

People who are against marijuana usually spout the same dogmatic arguments that have been disproven countless times. I dont smoke pot anymore, but i have and i think that the way it has been demonized is absurd.

  • Beautiful Chaos

"we actually came to a conclusion that we get along alot better when we do smoke weed."

So you alter your state to be together?

"People can say weed is addicting but it is not."

It can actually be very addictive, especially for those who have addictive personalities.

"I have been smoking weed since I was 8 years old
I smoke weed almost every day"

    See above lol Point made.

If you get drunk everyday, you have a drinking problem, if you get high everyday, you have a drug problem. If your parents allow or encourage you to get high at the age of 8, obviously they have problems too.

I have nothing against anyone who smokes pot, having indulged myself, but lets call a spade a spade, you can dress a problem up to be as pretty as a daisy on a sunny day, but it is still a problem. if you are going to act proud of it, you should at least be honest about it.

"Weed, like all the other drugs is a mind altering substance. Its a cowards way out of having to face up to life and in some cases their responsibilities."

i've always thought that life is about experiences, weed makes a lot of them more entertaining. I smoked a lot (on a daily basis) for about 11 years and not once did i do it to "escape" reality. I graduated near the top of my class in high school and was on the dean's list in college, i now hold a job in a highly creative field making over 100k a year. I wont lie, if i hadnt smoked weed i probably wouldnt be doing as well. It always helped me focus when i had to do school work and helped to stimulate my creativity when doing my work. I still smoke occassionally and i can honestly say its had no ill effect on my life. Quite the contrary actually.

i mean there are plenty of losers out there that smoke a lot of pot and dont amount to anything, the thing is, without the pot the outcome would most likely be the same.

Weed, like all the other drugs is a mind altering substance. Its a cowards way out of having to face up to life and in some cases their responsibilities.

^^ I could easily be seriously offended by that, but I'm not going to stoop down to your level and sling names around for something I don't understand, like how someone could be so blatant about their opinion on something they probably do not have any experience on.

By that logic, you could say anyone who drinks a cup of coffee in the morning is a coward, or anyone who takes antidepressants or antipsychotics for a condition is a coward, because, believe it or not, both of those are mind-altering psychoactive substances.

And, while I don't indulge in drugs anymore, I still find such a straight forward and outright unjustified statement to be a slaughter on anyone who ever has, or ever will, use any form of medication, legal or not.

Also, not everyone who indulges in any type of psychoactive substance gets pulled into this metaphorical web of addiction and detox and "clogs up the medical system", nor is the world ran by a bunch of "bleeding hearts" who do everything they can to stop this social conspiracy you've convinced yourself of.

As a matter of fact, if these "bleeding hearts" wanted to help the problem, they'd wise up and educate people on the truth of the situation, instead of instigating it by advertiseing the same mind set you're ranting with - the typical "drugs are evil and can do no good" mindset and isolating those who are making mistakes and getting involved in drugs. The old saying "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" holds true here.

Im not saying anyone who does drugs isn't wrong, or that they're good for you, or even anything remotely related to it - but freaking ay, it isn't this beyond evil scourge onto the world that you make it out to be.

Weed affects perception, motor skills, and memory. No, weed is not physically addictive. Yes, it can still be addicting depending on personality and situation. Yes, it can affect relationships, but usually that is not caused by the drug but by the person.

If you don't wish to talk about your parents, you shouldn't bring them up, it is a parents job to know or find out what is going on with their kids, it is quite apparent they have problems of their own. Think about what you write before you write it, then you don't have to go back and fix your embellishments.

Actually this site is a place of poetry and people know what you tell them, so again I must reiterate, if you don't wish to have something commented on, don't bring it into the conversation. Someone needs to grow up, take a pill and learn how to have a conversation.

Weed has its postives and negatives.

    NEGATIVES:
Marijuana, weed, pot, reefer whatever you like to call it, is probably one of the most widely used substances. It is known as a hallucinogen. It's a mind altering substance, meaning that it causes altered perceptions. It could also cause sleep problems and paranoia.

    POSITIVES:
Marijuana can be used for medical purposes. It can be relaxing for an individual and could possibly help them focus. It's also rare for anyone to die of an overdose.

Some people might say that it's one of the safest drugs out there.

    - I'm not trying to say that people should go smoke weed but I don't think weed is all that bad because it could be used medically for people that truly need it.

    * I did research on marijuana in class, so yeah :P

  • john

They didnt OD on weed, i know you didnt say that they did, but the way it was worded it seemed implied.

there are tons of lazy and unispired people out there, weed doesnt create that, if you have the ambition to succeed, weed wont take that away. Not everyone in this life has what it takes to make it, if it wasnt for weed they would have found something else to waste their time with. Weed is a recreationaly drug, if you use it recreationally you'll have no problems, but like with any other type of recreation, some priorities come first. if you cant make that distinction, it will be very hard to prosper in this life. Don't blame a benign and beneficial substance because some college kids flunked out because they couldnt manage their time.

    Marihuana Tax Act of 1937
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the United States, the 1937 Marihuana Tax Act, Pub. 238, 75th Congress, 50 Stat. 551 (Aug. 2, 1937), was a significant bill on the path that led to the criminalization of cannabis. It was introduced to U.S. Congress by "Drug Czar" Harry Anslinger, then Commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics.

In theory there are some people that are going to handle drugs differently. I have seen many that are very satified with weed as their drug of choice others will always be searching for bigger and better highs. Those people are said to have the disease of addiction. You can call us irresponsable if it makes you happy. Anyway any drug or narcotic can become a problem for those of us that are not neuro-typical and caution is nearly always good advice.

There have been many cases I believe that was caused by the laws against any substance. That being said prohibition forces the law of supply and demand into a criminal environment

In 1942 the monks at Our Lady of Gethsemani Abby were licensed to grow marijuana or marihuana as it was spelled for the manufacture of rope and cloth. It was said to be the number one cash crop of the counties in the same area forty years latter, though I believe it was being grown for a different purpose. It was there that I read an article about a mysterious murder where a suspected dealer was gunned down.

If i ate 10 bars of chocolate everyday it probably wouldnt be good for me either. A lot of things can be bad for you if you dont exhibit moderation. To the other poster who mentioned memory loss, Cannabis doesnt make you forget stuff (it actually stimulates brain cell growth), but stuff you learn when you are high will be harder to recall when you arent due to state dependent learning.

weed is incredibly beneficial, especially as a medicine, and anyone who took some time to do a little research into it would find a plethora of well sourced and reputable articles stating its benefits.

oh and if you are worried about the damage will do to your body (not that there is any proven damage) you could always just use a vaporizer or eat the stuff, hell make a cup of tea with it, you dont have to smoke it to get high. In california you can buy weed lollipops, damn i miss it there haha.

Pot is a natrual herb, used in "home remedies" in the pagan culture. other then the effects of tobacco, there IS no harmful side effects. i know bcuz, up until i joined the army, i was an advit smoker of the wornderous green. And, yes there is a million ways to use weed other then smoker. consuming through food sourses and drinks is one way to do it, and i used to make THC pills in my room with sugar, bud, a small metel messuring cup and if u want, add a drop of vanilla flavoring or a small amount of coco powder, first, u grind the pot into a very, very fine dust like substance, mix it all in the messuring cup, hold a flame, i usally used a candle, melt it all down and then quickly pour it into some sort of mold, i used the trident gum plastic holders, usally works great. stick in freezer for aprox 5 or 6 minutes, and vala, POT PILLS

Speed is in some cold and flu drugs, if that adds anything to Rikki's argument.

Weed is harmful. It is illegal for a reason. But in saying that, it may not affect the brain an extreme way long-term.
If he's been smoking it for 6 years, think of the damage done to his lungs!

  • john

Ether you dont know what you are talking about. there are many reasons why weed is illegal but they are all nefarious. Rikki, like you said, even water is more deadly than weed (much easier to overdose on water than weed, and just think of all those drownings) but we dont make water out to be this diabolical thing. And to answer your question he probably stopped using it when he joined the army because they drug test you, i reckon he didnt have much trouble quitting though, seeing as it is much less addictive than any other drug.

Well if you're boyfriend has been smoking daily, then that's a hazard...If you're expecting some long term relationships, expect some hard times in the financial department.

Although I do not care if someone smokes when they need some release from the stresses of everyday life. Too much is a bad thing.
