Short Poetry Contest

    Thought it was about time I posted one of these. Hope you all enjoy and enter.

    I love short poetry, I feel if you can communicate more with less words, then you are truly a great poet. It's not for some people, of course, but I'd like this oppurtunity to host this to see what you can all produce.

    Poem can be no more than 50 words, and the title is up to you, but you must tell me what thing you've chosen. (I'm aware it's hard writing to a title.) :]

    But the poem must be about/contain one of these below events/scenes: (Three people per event/scene). One reservation each, so pick wisely! :]

    I'm just looking for originality and not typical stuff. Put yourself/the narrator in one of those scenes/situations and see what comes of it.

    There will be one winner who shall receive:
    5 comments and a nomination

    Two runners up who shall receive:
    Three comments and a nomination

    Due Date is April 1st.

    Hope you all find something here to write about.

    Reserve "A funeral" topic.

    Good idea for the contest, btw :)

    *Edit*

    Departure

    Paper heart merges with oblivion
    off the shores of obscure faces
    smeared with crystalline specters;
    portrayed nocturnal sunburns
    harbor in voiceless swan-songs.

    Please resevre a funeral.

    Goodbye (a funeral)

    Rain on my face
    Hiding my tears
    Now that you're gone
    I'm drowning in fears
    If I could hold you
    Just one last time
    I'd make you tell me
    That you're all mine
    Because goodbye is
    Just so hard to do
    When there's a casket
    Between me and you

    ~KM~

    by the way this is a really good idea for a contest. it really is harder to get a point across in less words. it takes a real poet to do so.

    Can I reserve a funeral please? Thanks :)

    Good contest btw :)

    EDIT:

    Where The Widow Weeps (The Funeral)

    The silence creeps like mist,
    desperation follows its cursed path.
    Ancient halls witness the mourning
    with tired, immortal eyes.

    Laid to rest in eternal wood,
    dry eyes are a speciality.
    The love for the dead is stifling,
    yet the flames burn on with no compassion.

    A lover's bedroom please.

    Satin Sheets to Lie On

    Scent, Chanel No.5
    faux perhaps, just like her Gucci
    knock-off version of a lady
    illusion Queen - she is

    Slippery as the sheets
    she LIES on
    Reminder ?
    A taunt ?
    She was there, before me,
    today ...

    Grace, Dignity, Love
    engraved upon satin sheets
    Reminder !
    Statement !
    that I was there ...long before she

    * Some people will do anything to get what or who they want .... even change who they are and hurt anyone in the process .... And some people don't see the devious ways of another ... until it's to late and can't be undone*

    A desolate town, please :) Nice Idea..

    EDIT:

    La Ville

    Cold, empty churchyard
    Bullets stain the holy shell
    Women, children, murdered without reason
    I stand in a town where the innocent fell

    Mercilessly massacred, Swastikas' shoot
    To this day, nobody knows why they came
    This desolate Ville, a sad reminder stands
    In memory of those lost, in Oradour-sur-Glane

    _____________

    (Oradour-sur-Glane is a small French town which was invaded by the SS in June, 1944, there was no explanation given but the entire town was shot and the buildings mostly destroyed afterwards. For more information.. just google ;) )

    A Summer Plateau
    by Italian Stallion

    Dreary delta dorsal devoid,
    vivid vadantes vade vapidly.
    Summers superfluous superheat
    eluding eclipse effectively.

    Mysterious disappearance

    All is empty
    nothing but quiet
    the rustling of leaves
    is the only thing besides silence

    there are marks of life
    but that is all thats left
    apart from the foot prints
    the sidewalks are dead

    once a hustle and bustling beast
    now a town that is deceased

    A bustling/ hectic city

    Looking For A Lost Cause

    Lights waver in the madness,
    hustle and bustle of daily life.
    Faces blur past on sidewalks,
    faster than a speeding bullet.
    Lost in all the craziness,
    searching in the growing mob,
    trying to find your face,
    having no success in my trials.

    Eb Tide
    By: Twisted Heart

    Soft waves lap my feet
    As the moon reflects
    against the palm
    that sits upon my breast
    Silent are the stars
    For they are watching
    two lovers croon

    Gentle is the heart
    On this night of nights
    As sand mixes
    quite lovingly with the warmth
    Of Eb Tide

    Can I have a hotel room please... thanks

    Sleeping Alone (Hotel Room)
    by Ashleigh Skye

    Head resting on feather pillows
    sheets crisp like paper
    locked within this glorious room
    mind floating back
    to when we slept under the moon
    pebbles and stick beneath us
    and my heart sinks as I realise
    I'd rather be sore with you,
    than sleeping alone in heaven.

    A Desolate Town.

    Gone.

    Old spirits walked here
    Ghosts as old as time
    Thoughts now forever gone
    Only ruins do remain.

    Artwork {a city's masterpiece}
    by dollwithafrown

    Graffiti walls and makeup dolls
    High heel shoes and singing blues
    Concrete ground; a world of sound
    Souls are broken, hearts are found

    Leather jackets, summer skirts
    Laughter's voice and tears that hurt
    An open room; a city's release
    The colours of a masterpiece

    A Summer Field
    (46 words)

    Shallow outlets brown the skin,
    as if the sun had shown again.
    It's hidden deep within our minds,
    furthering what's left behind.
    A summer field has gone away,
    but who's to wonder, who's to say -
    That followers of God himself,
    can't believe emotions they've never felt.

    Don't Try to Catch Me, I've Already Fallen
    (50 words)

    Waves lapped against the sandy shore,
    Under a violet blanket of clouds,
    You took my shaking hand and swore:
    "I've never felt like this, like this before."

    The dancing stars halted in time,
    When you pressed your lips to mine,
    Together, we waltzed through the twilight,
    Falling, falling, falling.

    Gone..

    (: I'd like to give `a lover's bedroom` a shot.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    `Eliciting A Ghost`________ (50 words)
    sunlight punctures the still silent air,
    chalky as it swirls around your dresser --
    flying nonchalant, then abruptly falling,
    casting shadows on our faces: neatly framed.
    obvious passion is photogenic.
    and oh, what passion we sheathed,
    dancing together beneath these sheets.
    you may be gone, but our bed is still warm.
    [A hotelroom]
    Porcelain Dreams
    Sweet potraits of euphoria exudes across the empty room,
    deriding ample nightmares that embraces sleepless nights.
    Shine. Shine along with the fragile stars that quide you.
    Tranquil. Sleep.
    Will you weave a medieval guardian for me too?
    Summer Field
    {26 words}
    drowning heat
    burning thoughts
    drops of water vaporized.
    beads of sweat
    running makeup
    a thirsty dry mouth
    My body lays
    on dead grass
    just a summer field
