Slience Day (Gay community)

Damn it! I meant to say "Silence day"...damn typing lol anyway......

So my school does this national day of silence thing for gay people, I never really got it. I'm a lesbian and to think of silencing myself is ridiculous.
I think that the gay community should speak up for all the wrong that has occured to it and call it national scream it out day or something cause being quiet is no way to get help for whatever cause you're working for. I don't ever recall a time in history where silence achieved something (unless you're being quiet waiting to attack the enemy-i digress though because this certainly doesn't apply). When you want something done you talk about it.

I dunno that's just how I feel about it.

someone please help me understand why exactly we would want to be quiet?

Uhmm well at my school we do a "day of silence" to give up our voice for those that dont speak for their rights, like those in a bused families, or in africa.

I guess it's just to show that you guys acaully do believe in that cause, but you might not be taken seriously or cared to be heard if you talked out loud becyase you dont have any power, so you do it silently ?

I think it has to do with the difficulty of not talking, and not being able to talk. About this story (From what I heard) was about a boy who hung himself? If it was, it was because he was bullied and no one listened so maybe it relates to that?

Soooo basically both of you both dont really get the silence thing either? lol just wanted to make sure i wasn't alone lol
