American Idol Brother, Adam Cook, Dies Of Cancer

    May 4, 2009

US (ChattahBox) American Idol winner David Cook has lost his brother, after a 10-year battle with cancer.

Adam Cook was diagnosed with a brain tumor over a decade ago, and had been fighting the disease ever since. He last received chemotherapy a year ago, during the time his younger brother was performing on the Fox reality show, American Idol.

The 37-year-old could be seen in the front row of several of Cook's performances during his time on the Idol stage in 2008, and the singer had recently canceled shows to spend time with Adam.

Cook made the announcement of his brother's death at the Race for Hope 5K on Sunday, where he was a grand marshal and runner.

"I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now," he was heard saying.

Adam Cook is survived by his wife, Kendra, a son, and a daughter.

This is such a tragic thing and please keep Adam Cook in your prayers, as well as the rest of the Cook family....

I hate to be jilted and everything, but with so many people dying every day to various ailments, what separates this one? I mean i already have a distaste for the celebrity obsession this country has, but this barely even qualifies as that.

We had a young man (in his 30s) at the hospital a few weeks ago, never sick before diagnosed with Lou Gerigs disease...He died last week. Could you imagine thinking you were perfectly healthy and all of a sudden you are diagnosed with such a horrible disease and then die a few weeks later? The doctor's didn't think he'd die so soon so his family wasn't prepared for that. He left behind a wife and 4 kids in addition to his mom, dad, 2 brothers, a sister and his grandparents. Sad stories don't always get told unless you are famous. They are people, just like the rest of us. It doesn't make them any more important. At least the Cooks had time to prepare for their loss and they knew what they were up against. I don't mean to sound cold hearted, I do feel bad. It is sad when anyone looses a family member, but such is life.

Instead of just praying or asking to pray for one individual or family, why not pray for the millions who are still going through it, the many others who have or will be?

My prayers go out to all individuals who are struggling, fighting or have passed and to the families who are struggling, fighting or have lost their loved one. :)

    * editted.

I do realize there are tons of other people to pray for... I guess I just heard this on the news and was astonished by it. But anyone have someone they have in mind they'd like to share?

    :)

"...but I just heard about this and wanted to inform others about it, just so they could add prayers in for them."

^ Is that your job to do so? Is everyone obligated to pray especially for them?

"...you don't need to yell at me."

^ When and who at what point was "yelling" at you? Many explained themselves before they posted their reply, and as far as I could see no one used any '!' or CAP locks.

I was not offended by the post or you nor had anything against it or you. I simply told my story of my family members I do know who had suffered, fought and passed away because of cancer. I also made an alternate suggestion, then expressed my prayers for all those with or who had cancer.

If you didn't wish to have people express themselves, share ideas or the like, you shouldn't have bothered to post.

You need to thicken your skin up a bit, or you wont make it too far in life. No one was even remotely inconsiderate towards you.

Is this oh-I-love-fights thingy so normal here?
If you don't like the thread then simply don't post a reply

P.s I don't even know the man nor care about him really, and if you're going to talk about the death of people then the least you can do is remember victims of wars.
    This is only a clarification..

"Cheers to the fighters who have won."

^ Here, here! These people are quite inspiring! And so are the people who, sadly, didn't win against cancer. The faith. The courage. The strength. It's inspiring.

My grandpa suffered from cancer, he passed away due to a heart attack after his operation to remove the cancer last year. I admire him & am so inspired by him. As the years pressed his condition only became more worse; severe. And yet, even though physically he'd changed, through it all & till the very end, in his eyes & in his smile you could still see so much life & so much love. Before he had to have the operation he told my family that he was ready...

The people who can do this; who can fight it & come out on top or who can accept it, are simply amazing to me. :)
