Braces =(

I just recently got braces, and they don't bother me too bad, what gets me is this Transpalatal arch they put in my mouth. I can't stand it! its cutting my tongue, i cant swallow, or eat, and i've got raw spots and cuts everywhere. Does anyone else have one of these? if so, how did you deal with them!

If it's cutting your tongue and stuff like that, you should tell your orthodontist. That means it's not fitted just right so that it's comftorable. Talk to him/her soon if it gets worse, and if it's still persistant by your next appointment, tell them then.

You should be able to get these little pieces of wax, that you can put on the sharp parts of your braces that irritate you the most. Ask your orthodontist about it.

Its not something that can be fixed with wax. the wire just cuts right through it. its just kinna a side effect from the appliance. its awful though. i can't stand it!

If it's just a piece of wire that's irritating you, then go to your orthodontist and ask him to twist that part away from your tongue. Better still, ask him to cut it off completely.
