Well, its just like jail. Jail is supposed to be a bad place...It's punishment for people who have done wrong and broken the law...Its not supposed to be a vacation, am I right?? |

I don't know much about it, but I have read books who've mentioned it. I think it depends on where the Juvenile is because some are really strict and some are a bit layed back and focused on making kids who are admitted into it into better people. |

JDC isnt fun at all. When i was younger I was put in a couple different ones. I mean they arent quite as bad as people make them seem but there not the place you wanna be. and normally when a kid gets put in, they are put on probation afterwards. its not the life someone should want. Are you thinking about doin something that may land you there? |

I have worked at a juvenile detention center , it is similar to a county jail as far as the rules and so forth, you have visiting day, uniforms, no bars are allowed(in NJ anyway) so walls replace them. rules, rules and more rules, you are watched all the time, except in the bathroom. Often it is just a place to hold you until the court decides where you will go. I now work at a residential program...this is where the rehabilitation comes in...counseling, schooling, behavior modification is part of the plan...it works for some but the success rate is not great! In both there are fights, intimidation, gang activity and sexual issues...Children have more rights than they used to but still not as much as adults. Either ...you are separated from family and friends and it can be scary and lonely. If there is a choice, it might be a good idea to get help before it gets to that point. |
