Laptop advice

I'm thinking of getting myself a new laptop, and I've looked up info about the Sony Vaio, I like it but I'm still confused. Any advice? Your opinion on the best laptop brand to buy.

I need a light weight laptop which is fast has a large memory, can operate on high power needing programmes and software, and just a laptop that would last for a long time.

As Bob said goto the store, do research on the net, etc.

It all depends on what you want and what you like. How much you are willing to spend, etc.

Sony is among the worst because of the inability to get parts when they fail, and the early failure rates. In my opinion of course.

Dell's XPS series are very well designed, but can run kind of exspensive. They are more geared towards gaming or for use of high end graphic designers/video editors.

Asus has several well designed laptops that are full of the latest high end technology. They are a bit cheeper depending on the model.

Lenovo's Thinkpads are very good as well. They have great structure and technology incoporated into their laptops. Again depending on the model the price may range.

Acer's Ferrari series laptops are good as well, although I don't know a whol lot about them except for they are pretty decent at what they do.

I would avoid low priced Compaqs, Sony VAIO, Alienware, eMachines, and Toshiba because of parts and service. Again just my opinion.

Best of luck in your laptop search. ;]

If you are getting it for university you'll also get and education discount from apple and a free ipod touch. You can run just about any program that runs on windows on mac now, unless it is an ultra specific program. When i was in college it seemed like everyone was using a mac.
