HOMOSEXUALITY

    Hello,

I recently watched The Tyra Show and it was about a 16 year old guy that was gay and he didn't want to be gay because the bible says that you will go to hell. So, he went to a church and they did an exorcism on him to cast the evil spirit away from him. The 16 year old said that he's now interested in girls after the exorcism but says that he still has temptations to sleep with a man.

I don't believe that you can just change someone's sexuality. I think people are born the way they are. I do not believe exorcism works. It's just wrong to have anybody go through an exorcism and make a person believe that some kind of "evil spirit" is in their body and controlling them. I'm not a christian so I don't know much about the bible says, but I can't believe it says that homosexuals are going to hell. Doesn't God love everyone? And, young gay teens will believe that there is no point in living if they are told they're going to hell anyways, I think that's just wrong.

What do you guys think? Do you think you can change a person's sexuality? And, do you believe gays will go to hell??

You can change who you sleep with, you can't change who you're attracted to.
    The end.
Exorcism is wack. People are wack. It's no surprise.
    Poor kid.

The bible does state that homosexuals are possesed by devils and will go to hell. it also states that owning slaves is perfectly fine in the eyes of god and you should cut off any part of your body that causes you to sin.
you where lucky to be raised buddhist(i think you said that somewhere else) that and taoism are two of the most beautiful religeons around. i unfortunately was raised a christian. in a christian school, in a country that was largely christian. and i really did believe in the christian god as i knew no different. but when i was 13 i started to question certain aspects of my religeon and so i decided to read the bible as it supposedly was written through people by god. i finshed it in about a week and in the end i could only shake my head in disbelief at how anyone could believe that pile of bs. it is full of cruelties, evils, contradictions and a god that would make adolf hitler look like a saint in comparison. now dont get me wrong, there is some good in the bible but it is kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to find it

Oh and yeah. the christian god also believes vegaterians are weak and evil

I will agree with you . the bible, as the word of man trying to find or understand god, i could maybe give some respect. but unfortunately alot of christians take it as the direct word of god. which i cant help but laugh at

and on that last question. i dont believe it is the direct word of god. its just when i was that age all the christians around me did. and they would cite in it where god, gods supposed son and angels told people things directly.

I don't think anybody in this world that's human can live up to the bible. There's is so many "rules" and contradictions, how can you follow any of them? For example, everyone lies, at least once in their life, and if you say you haven't, you're lying.

But, from the bible, doesn't it say we're born into sin so we're suppose to do "good" or what's the word..repent? I think the followers of God, are sinful as well, eventhough they say they're good people that follow the bible. It's all mumbo jumbo. They say people who sin are going to hell, yeah, if there is a hell! I think it would be pretty amusing if all this stuff isn't even real after we die.

Yeah, I am Buddhist and I'm glad Buddhism isn't so strict like Christianity.

Its one of the things i hate most about christianity. it teaches people that man is inherently evil and that the only way to be saved is to accept there god. so basically that means that a man who has been evil his whole life but repents and accepts god into his heart 10min before he dies, is gaurenteed to go to heaven. while a man who has led an exemplary good life, who has done hes best to help his felow man but doesnt believe in the chrisian god , is gaurenteed to burn in hell for all eternity.

now interestingly enough there is actualy some really compelling evidence within the bible(if you look in the new testament carefully) and other sources(like the dead sea scrolls) that shows jesus's original message was very similiar to buddhism in nature. and that the church killed him and about 100 years later twisted and perverted all he said to conform to there original system of controll. and from that the bible as we know it was born.

Off the top of my head I cannot think of the passage, but some of the references to homosexual acts in the bible are actually referring to priests who would have sex with the temple slaves in the temple and that is actually what is being chastised.

We don't choose our genetic make up and people are attracted to who they are attracted to, as long as it is not a child and it is consensual, it is none of our business. Religion or no religion too many of us spend too much time in other peoples lives and bedrooms and ignore our own.

Love is love, whether you be homosexual or hetero.

A baby born is pure and clean. They have no sin above their heads. Is that not what the bible says?

The question is... how does that pure... sinless baby, become a spawn of the devil?

BLAH. I don't believe that at all. A person is born being who they are. No matter what, they shouldn't be ashamed of it. There are Christians out there who are homosexual, no matter what they want in their life.

I feel bad for that kid. :|
I hope he relieves that stress soon... :S

I'm not a follower of the bible but it doesnt say babies are born pure and clean. They are born with the original sin from the fall of man, and must be baptized to be cleansed of it. So technically according Christianity, if a baby dies before it is baptized it is going to burn for eternity.

That's just wrong. I haven't gotten baptised. I guess I'm going to hell then, wow.

Doesn't that mean that if a person that hasn't been baptised at all, and then when he's on the verge of dying and then suddenly baptises himself, that means he can automatically go to heaven?

^the bible doesnt really make any sense, it is contradictory and varies on the whims of the individual authors (not god)

  • silvershoes

"Yes it states all MEN are born into sin, but it also states that all children are innocent"

Yeah, because they were baptized. Baptism spanks the sin out of 'em!

So you're 100% nurture, no nature?
I think because of our complex brains, we have more of an inclination towards evil. Especially since we are the only animals that can utilize and build inanimate objects to work for or against us, we also have more of a natural inclination to feel jealousy... and other bad stuff.

Right, now I'm really going to bed! Night.

Meaning no disrespect to this thread or it's creator, but this issue, that of gay rights and morality attached to being gay, is so old I can't believe we're actually discussing it seriously.

    Slavery
    Black rights
    womens right
    gay rights

There is a historical pattern there that is easy to research and follow, and we all know that in each case the Governments and religions of the world were years behind the understanding and feelings of the people.

It's old news, really. Even by discussing it as a "serious" issue we're giving it power.

  • Captivat3d

Yeah, it is old news but it is still CURRENT news. People are still talking about it so what's wrong with us talking about it?

I just wanted to hear other peoples' opinions and views on this matter. It's just interesting and yes, I can probably research this stuff but I wanted to hear opinons from you guys :P and by posting this up, I can join in also! (:

We don't even know if what the bible says is even true. It's been updated so many times by different people so how do we even know if this is even God's doing, it could be man. I've never read the bible but it sounds like it contradicts itself a lot.

I believe, whatever you focus on, expands and becomes bigger.

gay rights is a no brainer, to me and I'd hope, every other educated cultured person. So of course we can discuss it here, but part of that is my right to say I think the whole issue is redundant, especially when you link it up to the other human rights abuses and issues we've dealt with over the last 300 years.

They are all obviously wrong and needed to be fixed, and with a historical viewpoint, we can look back and laugh at them and us, for ever having allowed it.

That is gay rights. We will be laughing at ourselves we ever thought it was a serious issue. In 10-20 years it will be old history that children are taught in school as an example of how NOT to do things and how far we've come as a race.

  • Captivat3d

Yes, it probably will be an old story many years from now but there still will be ignorant people out there.

I don't think talking about it makes the problem bigger. I think it is good to talk about issues in our country because if we don't say anything, it'll never go away. People need to hear our opinions and realize how ignorant they are. If MLK never stood up for black people or talked about civil rights, I don't think we would have a black president right now. The minorities need to stand up and be heard to fix any problem. If people stayed silent, a problem wouldn't be known.

  • silvershoes

Obama isn't really... black. He just has dark skin.

If people stayed silent, there wouldn't BE a problem.

  • Captivat3d

If people stayed silent then that would just be nonsense. Nothing would change in this world and everyone that was treated wrong would still be treated wrong. That's just..stupid.

  • Captivat3d

Sorry, I was actually commenting on what Silvershoes said.

Well, I think we're talking about Obama because he's the first African American President and he has said that he'll change countless things but those changes haven't occurred...and yes, I guess, his ego would be shattered and mine would too if nobody talked to me lol.

Do you think you can change a person's sexuality? And, do you believe gays will go to hell??

I believe that you cannot change your sexual orientation...However bisexuality broke that statement.

Sexuality is fluid, it can change according to what person you're attracted to.

But to go to hell just for being attracted to another consenting adult...Whether male or female is quite frankly wrong.

  • Captivat3d

  • AGirlWorthFightingFor

    Well you're still bisexual

I agree, you can change who you sleep with, not who you're attracted to

it's all animalistic and beauty and attraction comes in many forms...etc...

  • Lethmelodis

I think people will do what comes naturally to them. So, do people who express their sexuality deserve to burn? Nah.

I'm straight, so I can't really speak for someone who is perhaps gay or bisexual, but I'm cool with someone being themselves.

All I can really say about it.

The church does some crazy crap. But hey, what can you do?

  • forevertobeart

I don't believe in bisexuality. You're either homosexual or heterosexual, and anyone who says they're bisexual are just confused.

How can anyone believe in the bible when the translations could be completely wrong? It's been changed so many times, how do we even know if it's even correct?
