Hehe... sounds interesting! Is this going to be a Tv show? cuz it'll be hillarious.

I like the rules.. *Imagining a grownup doing a tantrum because of this one:*
"3. ... We have no interest in theories nor explanations of how the claimed powers might work; if an applicant provides us with such material, it will be ignored and discarded"

  • Kevin

What I find interesting is this.

Many spiritual/occult or psychic people claim science is the enemy of their abilities, and such things "can't be tested", yet they usually have no concerns selling their powers to normal trusting people on the understand they can make them work at will for money.

    It's a massive con.

I'm sure you all know someone who has had a psychic reading, or visited a medium. They were tricked.

If anyone had any kind of real power, they'd be the most famous person in the world with one simple set of scientific tests.

    It will never happen.

"Psychology (lit. "study of the soul" or "study of the mind")[1] is an academic and applied discipline which involves the scientific study of human (or animal) mental functions and behaviors. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist, and is classified as a social or behavioral scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the underlying physiological and neurological processes"

In my opinion 'psycic powers' is an idiom fror a sixth sense that is supernatural yet limited by, but not to individual will

We don't need Extrasensory perception to know where power is in a moderated forum

Kevin, you would probably not be offended if I guessed you were born when the sun was in the zodiac sign cancer
If I was correct on the next poster you would say lucky guess, but you would probably get unconfortable around the 6th correct guess

2 out of 2, Mikey. Do me do me!!

Kevin, you're such a preacher. I like it. If science wasn't filled with corruption, limitations and instability, or if the world wasn't filled with eternal mystery, or if humans weren't humans, or if you could make your thoughts sound fun instead of dry and unattractive, I might have joined your religion.

Always remember to make your blind dates threads as well your anti-mystic threads, for god's sake.

    Bright blessings to you.

The whole idea of humans using only 10% percent of their brains actually brings to light what the other 90% can accomplish?

It may be among the realms of fringe science, however, I do not discount the validity of this claim...

Michael, have you been researching the numerous Happy Birthday threads on this site? Why aren't you a millionaire yet? How do you do it? Do you know my mother's sign?

  • Michael D Nalley

I used to predict natural disasters by the position of heavenly bodies. While on retreat I confessed my interest in occult pseudo sciences such as astrology and ask the priest why the magi rarely are criticized for their knowledge of astrology and he let me know that he believed the myth that the wise men were astronomers. According to the bible they were following a star to honor a King that would change the world forever. The ancient art of astrology can be defined many ways by deferent cultures. I had to laugh at the answer I got on this site when posed the question ; what would you call someone who believed heavenly bodies effect events on earth , and the reply was a fool. It seems that even the harshest critic would have to admit that the calendar is based on astrological events though astronomers may want to ignore this fact.
You are correct that any guess of your mother's sign would be uneducated.

"Why aren't you a millionaire yet?"
If my main media were a mare I would have to consider putting her down.

I would guess scorpio, or cancer

Edward darling, are you calling me an old goat?

Michael, can you offer your theories as to how astrological stuff affects us? I know we are water-filled creatures influenced by gravities, magnetic fields, electricity and vibrations, blah blah........ etc?
Alas, my mother is cancer, not scorpio. Why was this guess uneducated, unlike the others?

  • Michael D Nalley

I have probably forgot more about astrology than most would care to know. I was invited to give a report on why I believe occult science is often misunderstood and focused on professors such as Rodney Colllin
    The Theory of Celestial Influence
    by Rodney Collin
    Commentary

"The Theory of Celestial Influence is Rodney Collin's chief monument to his teacher, P. D. Ouspensky. Begun during Ouspensky's last illness and completed shortly after his death, it is a book of staggering philosophical scope written with the electricity of an eyewitness reporter."

    to be continued........

Most,if not all science evolved from pseudo science

Ugh...from religion to the paranormal..and I feel rather similar about em both...

It's all wishful thinking and self delusion.

Tarot cards are just silly. You make them fit, they don't have any power, nor do the people reading them..lol...most of the tarot card readers I've met use PT Barnum phrase like

"You can be very open sometimes, but there is a part of you that you keep hidden, from everyone except your dearest friends"

This sounds very personal, but in effect it's just saying "you are really open with your loved ones and not so open with strangers"...which isn't very insightful.

Want people need to understand, is that when you go to a tarot reader, or medium etc, you desperately want to believe them. Very often you'll ignore all the useless wrong information and latch onto the hits, and make them fit.

watch this if you are interested...explain alot about how tarot readers, mediums and other peeps...trick you..

PS..there are heaps of birthday and starsign threads on this website...Michaels only power is how amazingly abstract and off topic he can be in my threads!! : )

I stand by my covictions that there is power in the psyche. That many intelligent people have noted that there is a cosmic connection that surpasses
the illusion of the rising and setting of the sun, moon and stars that even the simplest perception can detect

  • Kevin

Nothing that can be tested Mike.

The mind has power, sure..to create and order the body.

But any kind of extra sensory powers are just the imaginings or wannabe X-men.

See also: "Isaac Newton's occult studies and eschatology
In a manuscript he wrote in 1704 in which he describes his attempts to extract scientific information from the Bible, he estimated that the world would end no earlier than 2060. In predicting this he said, "This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fanciful men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, and by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail."

However, in the case of Newton, the astrological literature presents a different view and even claims that Newton was in secret an ardent student of astrology. As evidence the following anecdote is often quoted: when the astronomer Edmond Halley (1656-1742), of comet fame, once spoke depreciatively on the subject of astrology, Newton is said to have berated him with the remark: "Sir Halley, I have studied the matter, you have not!
So far he has been right
Though I believe I am related to Newtons a will not cliam to have any x genes. I believe the position of the earth, moon, and sun has turned many tides
Earth tides, like ocean tides, arise from interactions between the gravitational fields among the earth, sun, and moon. These tidal forces can systematically affect geyser behavior.
"Carl G. Jung believed that there is an indisputable connection between our minds and our bodies. Most people today would agree with that assessment. Our bodies affect our minds, and our minds affect our bodies. Our external situation affects our bodies, which affects our minds, and vice versa.

Taking it a step further, he believed that we affect our physical environment, and that ultimately, we affect the solar system. The solar system affects us, we affect the solar system. Our lives are not "caused" by the stars - the stars do not initiate anything, but there is an ongoing two-way relationship between ourselves and the stars.

Taking it another step further, he believed that the singleness of the solar system paralleled the singleness of human experience, and that "we are one." That there is a single external world, and a single internal world. The single internal world is not accessible by our conscious selves, rather it exists in the unconscious mind. He believed that each person's unconscious mind contains not only personal unconscious, but at a deeper level contains collective material that in inherited - the "collective unconscious." Jung felt that we can learn a lot about the human psyche through astrology, not only because the stars and planets are an external reflection of our inner selves, but also because the inherently symbolic nature of astrology allows us to consciously correlate symbols with unconscious knowledge. Jung felt that astrology is a language of symbols that mediates between levels of consciousness."

I agree that Randy's narrow mind is amazingly shallow

I welcome this challenge though I must admit that my perception has a limit. Though I believe I was created in the image and likeness of the supreme being who is omnpotent, my potency is limited to the gifts God gave me. I need alittle time to collect all the data you have submitted on yourself.

Omnipotence (from Latin: Omni Potens: "all power") is unlimited

Though I have been accused of going off topic . Where the sun appeared to be at the time of your birth is only part of your chart. If I were thinking outloud on who wants to be a millionare I would say I see a strong ifluence from mercury which is most closely linked the the sun. To prove global warming it is a good idea to place the thermometer in the correct position. My passion for communication comes from the ruler of my sun sign.

I am not at this time prepared to give my final anwer

I want to be balanced about this thread.

I recently did some research into Mr Randi, and it turns out he isn't very fair about his test subjects. Apparently, even people who do ok in his tests don't pass, because he demands they repeatedly get amazing scores in order to win the money.

I am in no way admitting to any reality of psychic powers, just that I've looked into this challenge a bit more..and it turns out it's not very fair.

    Interesting notion there musicality.

I had a chap, who I met at a Tai Chi convention explain that he thought, through years of training, he'd developed a sort of 6th sense that allowed him to dodge attacks he couldn't even see.

His explanation was that he'd been standing talking to someone at a training night, and without any warning he just ducked his head down, and at that exact moment, one of his training buddies swung a wooden staff over his head, right into the space where his friend was.

He took that to be some evidence of a 6th sense.

When I asked him if it could have just been that he is so used to the sounds and movements in the training room, he heard, even if he wasn't totally aware of it, the wooden staff being swung, along with the movements of the combatants feet, and his mind, his brilliant mind worked out an educated guess that he was maybe going to get hit...and he reacted.

He didn't like that, and remarkably for me, was far more interested in accepting the totally unsupported an unlikely explanation that he had a special power....over just good hearing and reactions.

It was an almost religious display of blind belief.

  • Michael D Nalley

"It was an almost religious display of blind belief."
It is interesting to note that the most common sense of sight is used more often when compared to the unknown possible progress of sensory creations,
more often than any other perception, blind belief as opposed to deaf belief, numb belief or even tasteless belief.
I used to think a prophet was just someone who could see the future, although the ancient scientist amost always associated omnipotence with the divine.

The psyche of mankind is closely linked to the mind of mankind.

I must admit that computer models have done a remarkable job of accurately predicting the path of major storms. Though storms and other catastrophes are natural, there have for a very long time been those who would seek supernatural power to predict them.

Religion and politics are more apt to condemn science as pseudo if it stands in the way of an agenda. The amazing Randy has an agenda to prove the senses that have evolved from infinite possibilities are by nature finite.

I get it, alot of people, especially poets don't like talking about this topic is a serious way, cause for alot of creative people, there are weak ideas about that one time they were thinking of a friend and then they phoned..and it just leads to such nonsense.
