Hey all i'm going to be doing a 30 hour famine soon. ( Not eating for 30 hour, while raising money)

    Heres just some facts:

~ 1 in 12 people worldwide is malnourished, including 153 MILLION chilred under the age of 5!!!

~In Smaller/Developing countires, 1 out of 10 children die before their 5th birthday!!!

~ Out of the 6.2 Billion people in the world today, 1.2 billion live on less than $1 per day!!

~29,000 kids died yesterday(per day) and 20 more will die in the next minute!!!

    Sad isnt it?!?

I think that its beautiful that people can try to make a differnce, and try to save a child

I just dont understand... If you have a chance to change or even save a childs life.. a young child.. you would wouldnt take that opertunity..? Is that what your getting at.. you find it beautiful that so many die from starvation each day..?

    1983, THE famine...

    Ethiopia, Sudan and Bob Geldof.

I've never been a veg person, never will be, but when my dad said to think of the starving children in Africa before wasting my veggies I did as he asked... the visions! I couldn't even eat my meat. I LOVE meat.

Sure I'll donate a few quid to charities and stuff when generosity compels me, but I am not about to change my lifestyle. Thinking about their plight just makes me feel more comfortable with my own.

We're lucky and we know it so there's no need to fuel a guilt trip.

    Good on you Madison! 8)
In Australia, we have the '40 hour famine' courtesy of Worldvision and i did that last year. It wasn't so bad 'cause i just lived without technology as i needed food to study lol.
It is tragic that people are not privileged with the type of lives we have. There is no doubt about it.

I have to agree with Justplainme that it is life in a sense that some people are born into a world of poverty.
Furthermore, I suppose you can jib the system and still eat despite the fact that other people sponsor you not to, but when i did it, i saw it as a personal challenge and i can say that it was gratifying achieving such a goal.
On the other hand, the answer as to why you can't send them FOOD is because of transportation costs, and the fact that some food can spoil easily, but more importantly, 'cause their bodies were not designed to eat the food we eat. They have to eat out of this tube, which looks really disgusting or from their nearby food source.
If it is God's plan to make people suffer, then i will have to clean up his mess. Oh by the way, volunteering is a hobby of mine so i love working with charities and maybe one day i'll become a doctor and chase after this girl i like who will become a doctor and help those people in 3rd world countries like the ones you are helping now, Madison.
It is the small things that make up the big things in life.
Good luck and take care!!! 8)

If you're going to give, give money. Money buys tools, machinery, housing, seeds and water lines. Quick fixes never work.

wow hope that was truely a great post. And I want to say sorry to anyone that i might have offended in this post, it wasnt my intentions. I do understand that god works in many werid/mysterious ways, and i guess death is a part of life. I just cant stand to think the death of a child tho. Maybe thats why i got so into this topic..

My point is you are ignorant and self centred and a heartless bitch! We should help other people, esp if they are starving children. And just cos I have a heart doesn't make me a hippie.

I can give them money without having to sell my computer. And I do. At least I'm trying to help them...

Some people want to make a differnce in the world. Try to make it a better place. Even if that means donating $1 feed a starving child. I guess some people enjoy helping others and some dont care

I'd rather sort out all the domestic problems my family and country faces, especially homelessness, before looking to help people thousands of miles away.

Charity, as they say, begins at home.
