    Congratulations everyone!

    Challenge idea:

A set of members and/or club managers sets up a challenge between us Mods....

Maybe set the genre or title or form or something like that.. and then we can either go head to head or a tournament-like thing....

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!

"And the loser gets to penalize all judges?"

^ My eyes are watering from laughing. Oh god, if that's not abuse of power, what is? I love it.

But yeah, of course we won't do that :)

I'm down for any sort of contest.

That's a good idea... a contest with rounds, eliminating people in each round.

  • silvershoes

^ I like it! As long as it doesn't go on for too long because people might start feeling excluded.

We could also have overlapping contests. Who says there can't be more than one?

  • Italian Stallion

When I do contests, I like having anonymous judges, that way the people participating don't cheat or influence a decision.

"Before we get far ahead of ourselves"

^ My bad! I get so pumped up, haha alright, focus Jane, focus...

I love the idea of a contest with 4 rounds that lasts one month. It sounds very clean cut.

How do we select judges then? I can think of several ways.

I say clubs should be done away with this time around and we compete as individuals.

Maybe the rules should tighten every week.

    Example:

First week - Any style poem from any genre [no Explicit]. Must be new.

Second week - 16 to 80 lines, free verse, from 'Love, romance,' 'Life, society,' or 'Nature, environment.' Must be new.

Third week - 20 to 60 lines, must have a rhyme scheme (no free verse). Can be from any genre [no Explicit]. Must be new.

Fourth week - Must be either an Acrostic, a Villanelle, an Italian, English or Spenserian sonnet. Any genre [no Explicit]. Must be new.

    ... Something along those lines.

First week - no limit to the number of poets who enter, but maybe only one poem per poet?

Second week - 12 poets will be selected from the cesspool to move forward.

Third week - 6 poets from the cesspool will be selected to move forward.

    Fourth week - a winner!

    Sounds good to me.

I actually worked for roto- rooter and used to empty cesspools for a living, so you could say I am a fan of Mr Hankey the Chrismas poo. Would christmas be a good deadline for the shy members of this site?

I reckon we should start this contest tomorrow, September 5th & thus end it October 5th. That's 30 days.

6 days to write, 2 days to judge, 6 days to write, 2 days to judge, 6 days to write, 1 day to judge, 6 days to write, 1 day to judge!
    That's 30, yes?

  • Michael D Nalley

    Yes I like it

  • silvershoes

Right-o. We'll get it figured out in time. Otherwise we'll just bump over to Sept 6 to Oct 6, no worries.

    Ah ok, going there now.

    Hell, I don't care.

We need more member input. Where are ya, members?! Don't be shy.

    Michael? Dreamer? What say you?

    Very interesting :)
and Id like to be a part of this

Maybe each round could be a different prompt... a title, a quote, a picture, a form, not sure what else there is...

  • silvershoes

Ooh, I like the idea of a prompt. Maybe we could do that for the first or second round? A link to a picture or a quote or something? Good thinkin'.

  • Courageous Dreamer

I think free verse & rhyming should be optional, use which one you're most comfortable with...unless it's a form of course that rhymes, then obviously you have to.

  • Sunshine

I think the quatation Idea is really good.
but I personally may find a problem with a picture..cause i use my emotions and maybe the picture wont really move them as a quotation would.

and I think maybe why not
give a title and challenge the members to write a poem over
which we usually do ..but this will be wider

or maybe a poem..to finish..or to reply over
    donu..gah
wat ever will be decided sounds interesting to me

and gd we will get 6 days..cause next week i wont b able to be online for 4 days lol

I like the idea of a fast-paced contest. We take what participants we have on the deadline and don't wait around for stragglers. Woo! I'm in.

Also, for future reference, I could be a judge. I'm sooo good at judging things you guys, you don't even know... All I do is judge.

    Can this be the prompt?

"And no waiting around for stragglers, even if we're in the fourth and final round!" That's right, maggots! It's time to stop slacking around like nancies and start taking challenges like a Britt!

I apologize to anyone who happens to be named Nancy.

I think 3 quotes and pictures might be a little much. Maybe one of each, but I think you want to kind of force people to stretch themselves and their creative limitations.

^ That could be my horse senses coming out to play and no one else will be inspired... which would work in my favor, yes! :P

I like it! As a person who is incapable of writing formed verse (I suck), I am hesitant to the idea of enforcing the rhyme and form rounds on a regualar monthly basis in order to succeed- now and then, sure, I think it's important to highlight the importance of it, but not every month. Same goes for making free verse compulsory every month, as this might consistently form a bias towards particular types of poets and turn others off.

So on a "default" contest, we might have something like...
    First round- anything
    Second round- a specified topic
Third round- picture or quote prompt
    Fourth round- title contest

  • silvershoes

I like Abby's idea too! It's nice and simple, still efficient.

This contest will hopefully begin tomorrow unless the other mods are able to start it today. Unfortunately today will most likely be very busy for the modly crew. I am moving to a new town while everyone else on the squad will be doing their great modly duties :P

Take care everyone and I'll check in later this evening.
