By accident I came across this video, and as appalling as it is, I do want to share it. It is about how instead of changing the behavior of the perpetrators ( men), the potential victims ( young girls) undergo a mutilating procedure, often performed by their mother(!). |

Yes Britt, all women should feel safe in this world, as should people in general. Unfortunately they are not, and especially when they are young they run great risk of being victim of rape, not only by strangers but also by family members and people they assume they can trust ( teachers of any kind, they seem to seek out positions that allow them to be close to young ones) |

Lol, young women seeking the company of older, settled men..that is something that has been going on for ages, hasn't it? I see them daily, it is everywhere, they offer themselves to all men who appear to have the means to spoil them rotten ( and the intention..for a little reward in return... bbrrr!). I cannot imagine any girl offering herself to a creepy-like men who is not wealthy, then she would have to have some kind of mental problem, or maybe have missed something in her youth, like a real father? Or just so hungry for attention that she doesn't care where it comes from. |

Physical mutilation is aways very sad. There was a post a while back about "Invisable children" that are mentally abused so they can be used to fight wars as soon as puberty begins. I doubt anyone would know who Monica Samille Lewinsky was if she had offered herself to a poor creepy like man. In the civilized western country of The United States It seems more socially acceptable and humane to kill innocent life than to mutilate. The religious practice of mutilation in the form of female circumcision is not less of an abuse of nature to many. If politics did not make minced meat out of an inappropriate affair much of the fuss could have been avoided. |

Thanks to my best friend, I recently watched three documentaries that Invisible Children have created and this is the saddest thing, Joseph Kony the president abducted children from villages, from as young as six, and trained them to kill. These children handled weapons and were basically brainwashed. They had to brutally kill and if they refused they would suffer, and those around them would also. Children of Africa now live in fear of the Rebels and that the child soldiers will come and take them away. Because of the young age, killing and weapons is all that is on the child's mind after a while. They have nothing else, they perfectly know how to aim and innocently murder. All they see in front of them is blood |

@ Britt: yes, you are right, to generalize is a dangerous thing..but you do see patterns, as you stated yourself just now too. I had a lousy dad, but it did not make me want to marry a man twice my age..I do and will always hold it against him that he robbed me of a real dad:( He is a lousy grandfather too, by the way, my son hates him. |

"Yes it is, Michael..but the emotional scars that this girls obtain are far deeper, they lose faith in the goodness of people by this.". |

Michael, we cannot always control what we feel, but we can determine what we DO with those feelings. I think it is fair to say that all humans are capable of all emotions that make us human, but we need not act upon them. It takes strength to do the right thing in all cases, but it is worth it in the end..because ultimately we will all have to face our Maker...and it is priceless to be able to look yourself in the eyes in the mirror each morning. |

.".because ultimately we will all have to face our Maker..".Many times I feel like an honest liar who takes pride in humility. The term "Maker" though it very often refers to a Father Creator God. I would imagine it would not be offensive to those with a natural dislike for organized religion or problems caused by the abuse of religion. In the imagined conflict of faith vs reason, the reasoning behind mutilation of innocence has been documented before, and I believe we would agree has nothing to do with a spiritual gift of wisdom |

Oh, Connie, sorry for misspelling your name. I thought only Dutch people spelled it like that. Your name is used much in my country. |

I believe that they do that in countries like that bc they feel that men are superior to women. In no way am I sticking up for them. I think its just how they were raised. I am completely against it. And like it was stated above, no matter how a woman or girl is dressed or looks should that entice a male to rape or hurt her in any way. And to put a girl especially of that age through so much pain just so they can "protect" her, is bs. It would be so much easier to teach a man as a boy the difference between right and wrong. I really wish there was some way to help these poor girls. |
