Nanotechnology

They say and I agree its only a matter of time maybe within 10 years before Nanotechnology is a part of everyday life the technology is happening now, today. This will change the way we live and the way we view our future, and where it will take us as a species the possibilities are enormous and the risks huge

Imagine having a Nanofactory the size of a washing machine in your house that can make anything from cloths to food machines even another Nanofactory, the possibilities infinite. Yet the risks are also going to massive you could make any drug in any quantity any weapon to any design, design computers that design faster computers technology would accelerate at an incredible rate

Some things are allready being produced using nanotechnology..ie sunscreen, self cleaning glass that you never have to wash..

How do you control such a monster? Its scary to be honest but it will happen

A very good subject Nicko, I will be back later to participate in this!

There is a site that covers all areas that Nanotechnology can be applied on:http://www.nanotechwire.com/

It scares me too, to think about how big the gap will become between rich( Asian) countries and poor ones. Even between generations the gap will only get larger, because the younger ones adapt more easily.

I do approve though, on many of the things it will bring us, like nano parts detecting and killing cancer cells for instance...or a washing powder that actually DOES clean our clothes properly, lol.

The real challenge will be to control those who are out to dominate other countries. It will be the Asian countries that are currently taking over as leaders of the world that will use it to its full extent to enforce their leadership. One day soon China will push the USA off its pedestal, no doubt by using all modern science has to offer, Nano technology included.

I don't think it has too much to do with rich and poor.

And why do you think this will benefit Japan and China more than anybody else Bob..? Once you have a nanofactory you don't need another country you make everything yourself, boundaries will become meaningless.

This will change civilization in ways unimaginable

Some for good and maybe some for very bad..

You don't see the gap growing? How do you think it will be in a few years from now, when rich countries have access to all science has to offer, wearing shirts that clean themselves, cars that drive themselves and need one appointment at the hospital to cure their cancer, while on the other side of the globe, in poor African countries, people are still dying of Cholera, due to not having access to the basic element of life: clean water..not to mention Leprosy, Aids, etc. etc.....do you really think the rich countries will share in their knowledge for free with those poor basterds over there???

    Think again.

Knowledge is power...no one will give that away for free.

I don't think todays logic can be applied when it comes to nanotechnology. Technology is speeding up exponentially so its hard to understand where this new technology will take us or the world economy. And where Japan and China will figure in all of this is hard to say, other than they take a good idea or technology and replicate it, refine it, traditionally they are not instigators.

But one thing we should do is look outside our Borders and look at the world as one economy. I think our continued survival as a species depends on it.

And Ingrid i think this new technology will help rid the world of these diseases, whether or not it will rid the world of poverty time will tell, but I also think there will always be some that will have more than others. Thats human nature, part of our genetics that will never be modified..

    ^^

Don't you see all forces are geared at countries staying devided? The only reason we hear so much bs about the socalled "enemy"is to prevent us from seeing our neighbour is just like us. We would stop walking in pace if we did.

I don't believe knowledge will be shared in such a way all countries will be pulled up to the same level..do believe there will be more spies sent out to get the info for free and the ones opressed will abuse that free info to make harmful devices of any kind to get back at the ones who feel superior to them.

No, I don't. We are on our way to self destruction and dragging the earth down with us in our fall.

About twenty years ago I read a book that questioned whether our socalled"progess" was bringing us any further. I said no then, say no now:(
