Who is Mary Magdalene

A lot has been written about this women but surprisingly little in the bible, there is reference to her about 18 times though only once is she quoted. Even though she was the Apostles of the Apostles

Was she the reformed prostitute most of us were taught or the Penitent Whore as labelled by Pope Gregory, and cured of 7 demons by Jesus

Or was she in fact the Companion or wife of Jesus, and those 7 sins the 7 deadly sins common to man, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. Who helped Jesus to the afterlife through commonly practiced pagan rituals...?

Indeed there is no mention of her being a prostitute other than she was cured of 7 demons which was why it was assumed she was a sinner and therefore a prostitute, and indeed Gregorys claims of her being a whore weren't repealed until 1970, though this correction has gone unnoticed by most and Mary Magdalene is still the penitent whore to most Christian sects.

It would seem the Feminine has little place in the bible.

You hit the proverbial nail right on the head, Anna.

Sorry I cannot stay, a brand new day is waiting. Nice discussion you two've got going here!

Much of pagan belief is based on the feminine, which is why Christianity sought to distance itself from the feminine.

Its interesting that (Saint)Constantine had such a major influence on the spread of Christianity, though a pagan all his life but christened on his death he sought a way to control the spread of christianity by merging the two, in fact he changed Christianity's holy day from Saturday to the pagans day of worship the "Sun" day

Indeed he could see that the power of Christianity was growing in the old Roman stronghold and by merging the two and accepting others beliefs, the Byzantine empire was to last into the 15th century, interestingly enough, though a Christian stronghold it was sacked by the 4th crusade as they had run out of money with which to carry onto Jerusalem destroying Constantinople itself.

So yes it was about power...nothing more

"It would seem the Feminine has little place in the bible."

Still today many believe that a woman's role in the world is lesser than a mans, even more so back in the day, so to even think that a woman could hold any sort of prestigious place next to their Savior would do nothing to help put females in their supposed place. Things change to suit their purpose.

I don't believe I have read any new testament accounts of Jesus commiting to a vocation in the sacrament of matrimony though through the mystery of the Trinity there was a pure union with a woman that descended from the house of David. It seems that Mary was, and is a poular name. I don't think any serious bible scholar disputes that Mary Magdalene was said to have had seven demons cast from her by Jesus. Demons have long been associated with a lack of ease that became dis/ease. Jesus was often critcized for calling prostitutes and tax collectors to God's cause. Many that are not religious still do not consider 7 deadly sins common to man, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony as desirable in either sex. God does not choose the qualified but rather qualifies the chosen

Whatever everybody says about Mary Magdalene, one thing is clear:

    She was hot. Yes?

In general prior to Christianity woman played a much greater role in society and most were Matriarch based. Women's rights suffered a crushing blow with the onset of Christian censorship. Women were treated as second-class citizens at the mercy of men. Ancient myths originating around the pagan Goddesses were usurped, subverted then altered by the patriarchal authors of the bible in order to eradicate the feminine divinity (the Goddess) from native traditions
