New Year's Moral

Well I think I will have to wish you all a Happy New Year (already) just in case I did not have the ability to do it later on XD.

However, I would like to add this short story by Paulo Coelho (perhaps you read it before, but a reminder won't hurt).

It has nothing to do with new year, but about being a new person or to have the ability to change the way we look at things as this year comes to its end. Since it's never too late, to be a better person.

No one is perfect, (myself ? I am far from that) since we all get angry, we all feel rage, hatred, revenge or perhaps selfishness. We all do our mistakes toward others, those who forgive us and those who we forgive.

So I apologize from anyone who felt or got offended by me or anything that I have done and/or said, perhaps even took me wrong over here. We all need a new white page I guess, and to wash our hearts in order to welcome the New Year.

Enjoy, and best wishes for a suspenseful 2011

    The story of the pencil

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point he asked:

Are you writing a story about what we've done? Is it a story about me?

His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson:

I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I'm using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.

Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn't seem very special.

But it's just like any other pencil I've ever seen!

That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on them, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.

First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.

Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpner. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he's much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.

Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice.

Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you.

Finally, the pencil fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. in just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action

Who could ever be angry at you, Nana?

    Have a blissful 2011 too:)

And a happy New Year to all members!

I like the analogy you have posted here, especially this part:

Finally, the pencil fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. in just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action

Every action indeed causes a reaction, and even our thoughts have huge powers..not all people are aware of that. One should try to live their life in such a way, that they are ready at any given time to go back to heaven. We don't know when we will be called back and so, if we forget or are unwilling to do certain things, it could be that we leave without it being done. No one is perfect, we were designed that way, only He is. But we could at least try to treat others the way we like to be treated ourselves, this is a really good guideline.

Well said Sunshine and Faith. Most of have avatars and screen names and the only other thing that leads to our popularity or lack of is the order in which we press the keys in front us. I have been sharp with members and a few members have been sharp with me, but at the end of the day we are all sharper.
Many of you know that I need guidance though I have tried to guide. I have attempted to erase others mistakes while mine remained. Someone very dear to me that was near to her eternal birth asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I told her that if I did not just get stuck in riding out the clock I wanted to leave a mark . I believe there is some desire by most of us to share what is inside of us. Who among is is an eversharp with no need of guidance or an eraser

I am sorry if I have offended anyone who has has tried to guide me and sharpen my wit through

Ooh, that little story gave me tingles. Nice thread, Nana.
I always liked the idea of starting fresh with a clean slate. Forgiveness is important. Forgive others and remember to forgive yourself.

    Happy New Year, PnQ family.

Very nice story Nana....thank you for sharing it :)
I found a nice little verse I would like to share with everyone also.

A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
    ~Edgar Guest

I guess it was more of ''correcting the mistakes'' part, not a lot of people can go back and say ''hey, I was wrong about it'' or ''I made a mistake in this and that''.

It reminded me of when I was training in summer in Egyptair's legal department and someone gave wrong info in a meeting/presentation and they were so scared to go and correct themselves to their boss, what really shocked me was that everyone was like ''oh it passed, if you went there and said you were wrong he will consider you unreliable'' I guess to me, I didn't see any problem in going there and saying ''I checked and found that I was misinformed in ..., it's not ... but.. etc''. to me that IS reliable, not being stubborn or holding on to something you discovered later was wrong just to save face.

but yes, the justice part did have an affect, I guess.

Yes, I certainly would. work wise. at least, I would know that person when he find he's wrong he would come forward. I would trust them. he did check and everything after all, I mean, we all make mistakes, things escape our minds. it's normal. but leaving someone misinformed just to save face? well, to me, that's horrible.

I can't see the odd part. XD
