    Precocious
    [Adjective]

    PRONUNCIATION:
    (pri-KOH-shuhs)

    MEANING:
    1. Unusually early or advanced in development.
    2. Exhibiting mature qualities (especially mental) at an exceptionally young age.

    ETYMOLOGY:
1640s, "developed before the usual time," from Latin praecox (gen. praecocis) "maturing early," from prae "before" (see pre-) + coquere "to ripen," lit. "to cook" (see cook (n.)).
    Originally of flowers or fruits.
Figurative use, of persons, dates from 1670s.

    QUOTE WITH THE WORD:
"What might be taken for a precocious genius is the genius of childhood. When the child grows up, it disappears without a trace. It may happen that this boy will become a real painter some day, or even a great painter. But then he will have to begin everything again, from zero." - Pablo Picasso

A precocious child will advance in great leaps but
will never enjoy the beauty of a simple sunset.

    Precocious Child

He was never seen as a precocious child
Until his father looked down and smiled
    Then miraculously he would grow
Searching for wisdom and things to know

He soon understood that he must wait
To learn the things that are not innate
Thank God he had the great fortitude
To hold on to his humble attitude

Created by a great intelligent design
Drawn to the mystic glory of the divine
    Where beauty goes unrecognized
    While holiness is just memorized

None has ever been born with no affliction
Without the need of some kind of addiction
To stand alone and walk without crutches
Who cannot be healed by the love that touches?

In order to allow a precocious child to develop into a well balanced adult we need to do justice to all aspects of its development, not just that of the field it has a special gift in.

    ^^

This is my deepest thought on the matter. I have a precocious child at home and never allowed him to feel superior in any way. I always told him that he may be different but not WORTH MORE than others and to use his gift well. He is by far the most humble young man I have ever known.

Hi, I am out of town visiting family and only have my phone to access the internet. I have asked the other mods to cover for me with word of the day but it looks like maybe they have been too busy.
ANYONE is welcome to post a new word! I'll take over again in the next few days, soon as I can.

I declare Michael the winner of this thread.
