As everyone knows I am for our soldiers, as a matter of fact I am proud of all soldiers because they have the courage to go places where many of us, including myself, will not dare think about.

Aside from that I must say that our government in itself is pure crap. Look at our president... he's a joke! And this health care bill... that in itself is a disaster!

I also do not like the fact that he actually repealed the don't ask don't tell. No, I am not against gays, but I do not think that their sexual preference should be made public in a combat area. I am afraid that it made lead to more problems.

Sorry, but as much as I love and support our troops in themselves I have to say that I strongly dislike the people who sends them away and makes all the calls without even listening to the public.

Why is it that we're fighting wars that the public don't whole heartedly believe in or support - more importantly, why don't we do more about it?

It saddens me that people are dying, troops and ordinary people are dying in cities i barely know how to pronounce or even heard of before the latest actions in the gulf for what's increasingly coming apparent is less for the benefit of the Iraqi or Afghan people and more for our own - the UK, the US and many other countries despite the billions being spent on war are actually profiting from war that if voted for in a referendum would of never happened; even more sickening than this disregard for true democracy, is the blood spilt everyday because of it.

Yet, still, rather than joining the many protests going in the UK right now - the majority, including me sit and mumble grievance rather than supporting a real movement against all this bull****.

What can be done is a lot in all honestly - we decide to vote for the same parties time after time which sell us the same crap we keep buying.

We could protest, we could argue, we could fight in so many ways the system we live in, the banks and governments which destroy peoples lives and let people die in the thousands everyday so we can keep up our lifestyles.

End of the day, we don't - why? because it's not us facing these problems, it's not us dying, it's not us who suffer from the actions of the people WE voted for.

So, i carry on cooking this meal - rant a bit on this forum, and write poetry :P Bllahhhhhhhh

    Sean,

I agree. I personally do not think that we should go to war unless we our asked to help or we are being attacked.

When my son first sat down and talked to the recruiter he was told a bunch of BS. You will never have to see combat blah blah blah...

I told my son that the recruiter was blowing smoke up his arse... so then we went together. The recruiter tried saying that again and more BS until I finally stepped in.

I informed him that I have been raised around the military and that I am not the average mom. I also told him that if he wanted my blessing for my son to enlist then he better stop blowing smoke up his butt and tell the truth.

He did, and my son enlisted... but I wonder how many kids have been told that they will never see combat and believe it? How many are there that are under false pretenses?

My son had to do something. He was headed down the wrong street and looking for a life of nothing. The military has saved him from himself although now he faces danger in other parts.

I just think that the recruiters should uphold honesty and not bs everyone. Let them know ahead of time what is going on and what to expect... do not sugar coat it.

As far as what can we do? We can unite and start protesting for what we believe in. We can start writing our congress and protesting. We as a whole choose to sit back and keep our mouths shut then we, including me, want to whine and cry as the government slowly takes our rights away.

It does not surprise me in the slightest that your sons recruiter would lie to get people to enlist - here in the UK I have had friends join the army, one of which is recovering from a near fatal injury - he joined too on the basis of needing direction in life and the military being pretty much the best answer for him -

However they also joined also being told that they would not see action immediately, they were all shipped out the minute they finished their training.

It's not surprising really though is it? Our nations went to the war on the backs of lies, manipulation and at least in the UK's case against a majority of the populations blessings. Why not lie to the very people who fight these wars for us?

Out of curiosity Sherry, what is the general feeling of troops towards fighting these wars?

I see my troops and yours as heroes, but unfortunately their heroics i believe are being used for 'evil' - at the same time, i don't really know what's going on out their and the good they must be achieving too.

I do see our troops as hero's. They are all very brave, but sadly, I feel that the government has tarnished what they are supposed to stand for and made our young boys and girls little pawns in their evil works.

It's a political game and sadly our government happens to be some of the most selfish and stingiest that I have seen.

    I read a quote today...

"Stinginess is parasitic, it chews life up and spits out bones. The stingy end up losing what they try so desperately to hold."

I feel as this may sum up what our government is doing.

Our kids give up their rights and freedom to try and save ours... yet we as a nation our relying so much upon the government to tell us what to do that despite all the lives lost for our freedom we are just throwing it away....

Bush jokes about WMD's at white house dinner
I don't think it was wise even though it may not prove that he takes the loss of life made by this error seriously

The whole idea of how the propaganda kept changing from we are there to defend national security to we wish to liberate the good people of Iraq is a tough sale in less bias circles

The polititians have shown much less compassion to our neighbors closer to us

    Sean, hi...

You're talking quite passionately about why we're all sitting here on forums talking about things that we disagree about, yet no one is DOING anything about it... I agree... but I'd like to know - what have you done?

Have you organsied rallies and protests like you state we should all do? Have you written letters to your members of government and walked petitions around to your neighbours? It's funny how we can get so passionate about things, but by sunrise the heat of our passion subsides and it's another day. I believe you're from the UK? There is a man there (well there was 2 years ago when I left) outside parliament house who has camped there for over 7 years as far as I believe... protesting about the war, people walk past him every day, not noticing him, or taking photos on their group tours to see Big Ben... yet for all these "passionate" people I hear from - he's still sitting in his little chair alone all the time.

    Funny that.

    Mo,

My point is exactly that. I have done NOTHING, like countless others - i write on this forum, talking passionately but do i take the time to fight? No i don't. I just whine, complain and mope about the state we live in.

Perhaps one day i will, perhaps one day i'll be more selfless and not be the sheep i detest in myself and others. But still, i'm sat here with my whisky - watching my TV, talking to you rather than being out on the street.

So i ask, are you any different? :)

  • Mo

    ... :)

    I wasn't claiming to be different. :)

However, I have done my fair share yes. I send round countless emails, I donate to charities, I take part in anti-cruelty-to-animal campaignes, I send emails and make phone calls - Im very much a "principle" person - but Im still observing with my government to see how that all goes (it's still very new)... but if America was my country -I might have done something about that - but it's not affecting my world, and although that sounds selfish, we have to choose our fights at the end of the day.

I do what I can, where I can. I dont, by any stretch of the imagination, claim to be a green peace hippy that has dedicated my life to changing things. But I try to change things I feel strongly about.

If everyone changes things they dont believe in, in their own backyards, the world would fit together nicely.
