    Hello,
I'm writing an essay for my AP Language and Composition Class about the power of the media. My teacher would like us to have research and a bunch of other stuff included. This is me trying to be different, if you could, please fill out the survey below by Thursday, Feburary 10th at 5 PNQ time, if you are late, it doesn't matter, I'll find a way to add you in.

    Internet use survey

    Age:
    Gender:
What is the average number of hours you are on the computer?
What do you use it for?
Explain how you use the internet, and whether or not you think it has more of a possitive or negative effect on you.
Do you think the World Wide Web is used in vain? (For example too many people using it for Facebook instead of informational purposes)

That's all I can think of for now,
Thank you so so so very much! :)

Recently, I've been living in a cave with nothing to do beyond the internet. So. I'll be generous with myself and call it 11.
I use it as a form of entertainment. Enlightenment tends to be a byproduct. Unless the entertainment happens to be learning about something. Frequent uses tend to be for wikipedia, dictionary/thesaurus, facebook, email, and to catch up on a show I missed.
I can't really say that it's negative or positive. For instance, finding the news online, or finding a fascinating subject on wikipedia can be beneficial. It keeps me up to date with what's going on, and informed on things that would otherwise require a trip to the library. One would think they'd be able to accomplish a lot off the computer with all that saved time. But one thing ALWAYS leads to another, and before I know it, all that time I saved has been frittered across the internet. So, is the knowledge I gained really worth not accomplishing anything in real life? Maybe not.
I don't think it's used in vain. The variety of things offered on the web means there is something for everyone. And while information is a basic and necessary attribute, the worldwide communication that the internet offers in all forms (including facebook) is valuable.

What is the average number of hours you are on the computer?
    I'm not sure...but I'd have to say around 10.

What do you use it for? Research, Games, and Poems-and-Quotes.

Explain how you use the internet, and whether or not you think it has more of a possitive or negative effect on you.
I use the Internet for Reasearch papers and mostly Poems-and-Quotes. It has a positive effect on me because it allows me to vent and write about my feelings on PnQ.

Do you think the World Wide Web is used in vain? (For example too many people using it for Facebook instead of informational purposes)
Yes, I think too many people use it for Facebook, but not necessarily it's used in vain.

    Thanks to those that participated,

I'd really like to get some more information to be more credible. So please, if it's not too much of a bother, fill this out :)

What is the average number of hours you are on the computer? Eight per day
What do you use it for? Intellectual stimulation
Explain how you use the internet, and whether or not you think it has more of a possitive or negative effect on you. From my own point of view it has had a positive effect . I have spent time that I felt was not as productive
Do you think the World Wide Web is used in vain? (For example too many people using it for Facebook instead of informational purposes)
There is an old saying that familiarity breeds contempt. I was spoiled at one time and hated to compete with a media that seemed so cold. There is another old saying if you can't beat them joint them. Many people on the web are very stimulating.

What is the average number of hours you are on the computer? 3-4 hours/day

What do you use it for? Socializing (Facebook, email and PnQ), looking stuff up, Netflix...

Explain how you use the internet, and whether or not you think it has more of a possitive or negative effect on you.

It eats up a lot of my time like an addiction. Some of the time spent online is productive, most of it isn't. I would probably be a more active person without the internet, but I would not choose to live without it.

Do you think the World Wide Web is used in vain? (For example too many people using it for Facebook instead of informational purposes)

Yes, I think it's predominantly used in vain unless for schoolwork or business. More than half is absolutely used for social and entertainment purposes.

    Erna,

I normally do not do these things, but since I am in the media field I thought... mmm... might as well.

    Age: 37

    Gender: Female

What is the average number of hours you are on the computer? 5-7

What do you use it for? School work, PnQ, Facebook, staying in touch with my son who is in the military.

Explain how you use the internet, and whether or not you think it has more of a possitive or negative effect on you. Both- the fact that I can attain my bach's degree and stay in touch with my son are positive... the fact that I spend so much time doing other stuff and taking that time from my children negative...

Do you think the World Wide Web is used in vain? (For example too many people using it for Facebook instead of informational purposes)

Yes, I think that the majority of the time any of us are on here is to socialize. It has come easier to just log online instead of going out in the real world and making personal contact with others.
