2011 P&Q Idol {Lu's contest}

Welcome to the 2011 P&Q Idol ladies and gentlemen.

News reporter Jack Haas is there on scene at the "The 2011 P&Q Idol" in Quebec Canada.

    [Lu]
Hey Jack ... What's the atmosphere like up there in Canada ?

    [Jack Haas]
Well Lu ... It's a darn cold day here in Quebec Canada.
I saw a man trying to chisel his dog off a lamp post and Richard Simmons went by wearing pants.
I tell ya Lu it is COLD!
The winds are fierce and people line the streets rubbing legs trying to stay warm.

They come from near and far ... by bus by car, by plane and train .. many will come - yet only ONE will remain !!!

The stage is set, the judges are in place, the contestants are lined outside the door with pens in hand. Many have camped out all night to secure their spot, drinking hot chocolate from paper cups to chase the chill of the cold Canadian winds.

    [Lu]
Have many left before auditioning Jack?

    [Jack Haas]
    Yes Lu
Many unable to withstand the harsh winds and heavy snow, admitted defeat before even auditioning.
And with heads bowed low and fingers aching with frostbite many are walking away Lu....stumbling over snow drifts and frozen dreams.

But many are sticking it out despite the harsh weather and even a few are writing a Haiku in the snow as we speak and a few have banned
    together for a group collab.

    [Lu]
Well Jack I hate to ask what they are writing in the snow with *laughs*
So what's going on inside Jack ?

    [Jack Haas]
Well as you can see Lu,
As each contestant makes their way through the door a red wristband is secured to their wrist.
Not sure why yet, but hopefully I will know more soon.
The air is thick with silence. Each poet is lost in thought and suffocating beneath a tumble of adjectives, verbs and metaphors, just waiting to be released.
The contestants have travelled from all over the world but at the end of 5 weeks and 5
grueling challenges only one will remain.

    [Lu]
Well Jack I see the first round is about to begin. Please keep us updated ok

    [Jack Haas]
    Sure will Lu

    [Lu]
    Thanks Jack
Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen. The 2011 P&Q Idol is about to beginning.
Time to separate the icicles from the igloos.

The question on all our minds now is ...
Who has what it takes to enter this gruelling challenge, who will be crowned P&Q's 2011 Idol and who will be going home with frostbitten cheeks ?

    ROUND 1 BEGINS IN 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1

    - By submitting a poem in the contest you are allowing your poem to be commented and voted on by the judges.
    - Must be a rhyming poem, rhyme scheme is your choice.
    - After you submit your poem to me there will be NO EDITING !!! So make sure you send what you intend on submitting.
Use spell check and read it and re-read it and ... read it again.
-BUT ... I will correct those little squiggles we all get sometimes (if requested)

  • Jad

I just thought how this round is rhyming but then if you can write a haiku for the picture then you dont use rhyming at all. :p just a weird though! Haha...

  • Jad

    You do?

EDIT: haha I see it now. :p

  • Jad

I don't think I have ever seen a rhyming Haiku. Usually they are suppose to be un-rhymed.

  • Sylvia

According to everything I have read, Haiku's do not rhyme in any way.

  • The Queen

    ^ Yup that's true Sylvia :)

Also haiku does not use metaphor, personification, simile, or many other poetic devices so popular in other forms of poetry.

One of the other tools that help to write effective haiku is juxtaposition. They can be very different images for a contrast, or they can seemingly have nothing in common, but upon closer reflection, have things in common.

    14 hours, 48 minutes, 11 seconds,
until Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 12:01:00 PM

13 poems in ... and 14 hours left guys.
Thank you to all who have supported this contest.
I will remember you always :)

And thank you to the wonderful judges who agreed to judge this contest.

I will post all the poems tomorrow after 12:01PM and everyone will have 6 hours from the closing time to review their poems and edit if needed.
I know how this site sometimes displays the poem differently than you intended.
And ... I want to make sure I have included everyone's poem as well

I will then close it entirely after the 6 hours and they will be sent to the judges.

    Good luck to all !!!!!!!!!

  • Lu

Me too Britt. And it happens often I find through PM

You think one line looks really long so you edit it and it ends up on another line ... Blaghhhhhhh really annoying.

  • Jad

Haha, that's cool. I am glad to see you had more participants in this contest. Hope it turns out really great! :]
