Great choices for new mods, Hellon. And thank you for the kind words... I appreciate them a lot.

Lu, you bring up some excellent points.

An anonymous voting system could definitely be preferable.

Do you think people should be able to vote for themselves? No, right? But nominate themselves, yes?

    Thanks for your input Hellon!

Luanne, thanks for your input as well!

I think while voting some might indeed vote because they know some person better but everyone doing such? I don't think so. I can't see someone winning because they're someone's friend or someone losing because they're disliked by someone. there has to be some reasonable number in to cause that.

I myself wouldn't let a person's attitude towards me, like Nicko's for example, make me not vote for them if I think they'd be a good choice. I might however take into consideration a person attitude towards criticism, questioning or just voicing concerns like what happened in the weekly wins discussion.

I believe everyone has their reasons and choices but in the end the majority's word is that which will decide.

as to voting on current mods, I again disagree, I can't see one mod frowned upon by all or most for nothing. we all pump heads at times but not to the point of wanting someone out if not for some reason which to us, at least, is important.

Just my two cents. so I guess we'll agree to disagree.

    Thanks again for your input.

I'd prefer a public voting, I don't think that someone would take it out on others for not voting for them! at least not someone who won. why do you guys make me feel that people are that not trustable? play favorites, show special treatment or discriminate and you'll be out. as simple as that.

I'm all with members suggesting themselves as candidates as well.

That's very decent of you, Nor, and we can only hope that everyone else is as decent, reasonable, and fair when assessing people for moderation. I would hate to see bias and what not come into play.
An election is such a great idea, I don't know why it's never been submitted for review before. Of course no mod wants to be voted out, but I for one would never choose to be a mod if the majority didn't want me to be one. It would be nice to hold the position and know for a fact that the majority is in support (or not in support). Elections should be held regularly to make sure mods remain the people's choice. Being a mod is not a trophy and you shouldn't be able to hang onto the title after you are no longer fit for duty.

Lets hope the people are more grown up that to do such. actually if anything it should motivate them to work and show how good they are as a moderators so that they get more votes afterwards.

and yes, I can't see someone winning by majority who would act that pitiful.

I think, Anna, people who are not afraid to voice their opinions and believe they are unbiased would be comfortable voting publicly... but that would rule out a lot of important votes from quieter members, members who try to avoid drama at all costs, etc.

I also think a secret ballot is the way to go and you can voice your vote and opinions if you *choose* to. Yes, it would be nice to hold everyone accountable for their votes and reasons for voting... but it would decrease the number of votes considerably.

So the question comes down to - do we want a public voting in which there will be less votes but everyone is held accountable? Or do we want a private voting in which there will be more votes but no one will be held accountable?

Potential repercussions of a public vote - less votes, fighting, peer pressure... and then downvoting and gossip.

Britty bunches, but anonymously, you mean? Like how judge's comments are placed in the site contests (except the judges are eventually revealed)?
Who would be in charge of collecting the votes and comments? I wish we could have a robot do it.

''do we want a public voting in which there will be less votes but everyone is held accountable? Or do we want a private voting in which there will be more votes but no one will be held accountable?''

That's a tough one. I'm with what the majority here decides. but I think it's those members who voice their opinions that are in sometimes in trouble with some Mods so I'd rather it be a public voting for those not afraid to state their opinion. maybe it would even encourage others out of their shells. maybe. to me, you should choose between having your voice and opinion heard or hiding and being safe.

reply to Jane's previous post that I haven't seen:

Jane, I agree, it would be good for both sides. and I think it would make both sides give their best. or at one hopes.

and for the record, I know we've had plenty of disagreement along with other things and we probably will do again in the future. but you, Sib and Britt have my vote to stay. Just making that clear so no one thinks I'm playing at something to get anyone out.

You guys maybe not perfect but are at least flexible, open enough to discussion and new ideas and of course active along with others things. That of course doesn't mean I'll stop questioning from time to time some actions or stop disagreeing about others. but just so you know.

''Ask Lu how to do it. She knows how to set up an off-site voting page.''

yes, it can be easily done, but anyone can access it and vote as much as they like from different computers and you'd never know who voted! public is safer xD

Ok, how about this.. those who want to vote publicly they can vote in the thread and those who want to vote anonymously can send their votes to a mod or a member that they all agree and trust, like Cindy for example or anyone of their choice, and then the votes would be sent to a mod if they hadn't been already and posted in a thread without names/identities.

    Britt, I don't understand... PnQ Account? O.O

I'm ok with a public or private vote, but I think a private vote would be better overall. More votes, less drama. Or maybe just more votes, haha.

Thank you, Nor. Yes we have had our disagreements and misunderstandings, but you have proven in many ways and on many occasions that you are fair and considerate (and forgiving like me (at least I like to think I'm forgiving)). Even if you were to vote me out, I would still be for this election, and I wouldn't hold a grudge. I vote to give you the opportunity to vote ;)

Striving for perfection is a little out of my reach as a mod, but being better is a constant goal. I do need to be put in place half the time, so it's good there are members who are not afraid to tell me off, and hopefully without fear of being unfairly penalized. There have been unfair penalties along the way, but it seems to me that those days are not these days. Some of you will disagree, but that's good. Dissatisfaction leads to progress.

I like the idea of allowing members who want to vote publicly, to vote publicly. Other members can send their votes to... well, we need to figure that out.

Actually the suggestion was that only people who show on the main boards are those who would be able to vote because it's them dealing with mods, so we'll have a list of those allowed to vote. so multiple accounts shouldn't be a problem.

Oops, over 100. Move on over to the new thread, guys, sorry.
