The world today... revolutions

I noticed that nobody has posted a topic on what's happening in the MENA countries these days, although I expected there to be a lot on them. I for one live in one of those countries (Bahrain) and my country is going through a lot. As you know many rights have been violated and governments have been killing their people.

First I want to congratulate those who have made it and I hope that we are next for a better future.

In this thread I would like to start a discussion on what has been happening, answer and ask questions and see how your thoughts are on what's happening. Most importantly discuss human rights and what the world has come to.

I hope this goes smoothly and express your feelings honestly, If you disagree with others don't insult them.

I truly hope that things get better where you are. we've been reading about it in the news papers and hearing about it on the news and all over whats going n there.

it really is so tragic and i really hope everything gets better there soon!! but just know that i think a lot of people feel its a very sensative topic and so they try and avoid it purely out of trying not to offend anyone but you're not at all forgotten!!

    ^^
Robert, I might be wrong, but I heard your youth will have a protest in March or so?

I just need to make something clear, this is no ''fun'', not at all. if you don't REALLY need it then don't walk in our footsteps. your economy would be more destroyed, and you'd be lucky if that's the only thing that suffers along with the problems that arises with such.

I, myself, don't see it as a wise step now. but what do I know?

Thanks Britt and Shelli... well, everything is much better now, but the government is unwilling to resign. Currently citizens are on strike, no malls, no restaurants, not even gas for cars... but it's necessary.

As for what you said Shelli, yes it is a very sensitive topic, because different people have different beliefs. But regardless on who's "side" everyone is on, we need to learn to cope with these situations with understanding. How else are we supposed to live in a diverse world?

Bob- that's exactly what we were thinking when it was all happening in Egypt and Tunis, now it's our turn. Hopefully it will go better with you if you ever decide to go for it, we don't need anymore deaths in the world. I hope the world becomes a better place after this.

Princess- I think Bob already knows that it is not fun, but sacrifices must be made for the better of the future.

Yes ,thank God SOME do I think it is in poor judgment to encourage anyone to shoot someone in the head. Some people make a lot of money selling fear.

^ I was talking about what was already happening in the world, since I live in Bahrain. I don't agree on what you said about them already having what they're asking for... In Bahrain the government announces something and does the opposite, it's not enough to only say you're going to do something. Another thing is that it's constitution is not being applied, it just exists! Also, people were being locked up in prisons for no reason and many of them were teenagers and children being trialed as adults... That is not justice and we can not stay quiet as that happens.

Things are bad right now; the Saudi-UAE army is here and today I woke from the sound of bullets being fired. What's happening in Bahrain now is inhumane. We have already sent messages for help from the UN, but no one is responding... We need help!

The people of Bahrain have no weapons, these people are brutally killing people and using weapons and live bullets against us. Yesterday they killed six and many were injured because they cleared the roundabout, they also burned the tents and I heard news that the roundabout is being destroyed, between the injured there was a baby... we really need help!
If you can spread the word and let people know, it might help.

    Yes, but that doesn't matter.
This revolution is about freedom and humanity, not secularism... two out of the seven societies are sunni and there are other sunni's on our side, like muhammad bu flasa.

    Sister actually.

Bahrain has gone through many revolutions before this one, there was one in the 70's, 80's and 90's. They were all peaceful and asking for simple rights like the right to a home and decent jobs. They were killed, imprisoned and kicked out of the country, for what? protesting for rights?!

AlKhalifa are dictators. Khalifa takes 50% of the profits of any person who owns a business, they have property all over Bahrain while they don't give their people, most of that property is stolen property. It is true that the land belongs to the country, but the country is not the king and his family. AlKhalifa control this whole country and occupy over 75% of the political chairs in this country, and they are the most important statuses in the country... which means that Bahrain is not democratically governs, all the choices are made by these people and many requests from the people of Bahrain are denied. When people decide to fight for their rights they are oppressed and punished.

Other than that they have used their power in getting what they want. They chose lands, properties, women and all they want and they get it no matter what. Any person who resists giving them what they want is punished, because that thing is either taken by force or destroyed and the person is either killed or imprisoned.

The government has crossed the line and gone against the law, our constitution isn't being applied. It says that we are a democratic country when we are not. It says we have our rights, yet people with good education are not given the jobs they deserve, no matter how hard they try. We have freedom of speech yet every time we try to express ourselves we are oppressed. We have the right to own properties, yet the government can take them away whenever they want.... and many others. Have you ever seen a prime minister who has lasted for 40 years? This is not called a democracy.

Now, we started our revolution not for AlKhalifa to leave, but they attacked us for asking for our rights and after the first deaths we started asking for AlKhalifa to step down. Would you like a murderer to be your king? or your prime minister? or any other person in the government. Can you trust that government? Since then more people have been killed and injured, including babies. Hospitals have been raided with people from the army, they have been gassed, doctors and nurses have been hit and ambulances hijacked. The university, and it's no place for politics, was attacked, including students and professors. All this and the people of Bahrain have no weapons, none at all and they aren't fighting against the armies. Is this freedom? Is this humanity?? We should have been able to ask for our rights and get them, we shouldn't have been violated like this.

AlKhalifa are just as bad as qathafi and sadam, they just aren't as honest about what they do as they are.

Bahrin is by no means a poor country,"
Revolution happend in tunis because there was over half a million with no work
It happend because people couldn't afford day to day expenses. They died. Out of poverty,"

True, Bahrain is not a poor country, but that is because they overlook the full financial situation of Bahrain and all the countries wealth is in the hands of AlKhalifa. People here are living on debt, because like I said in my previous posts, there are no decent jobs. The salary is not enough, half the salary goes to rent, working a second job is illegal, and if you want to start a business you have to pay a lot of taxes, plus 50% of the profit goes to Khalifa. Another point is, have you been to Bahrain? If you have, have you seen where people live? I've seen houses that are about to fall on their inhabitants, and still people live in them…there are some houses you wouldn't even use as a stable for animals. About six years ago, there were some people who lived in houses made of aluminum, people used to ask for money in the streets, and there were carts which sold things. These are illegal now and these people have either been imprisoned or silenced. I don't know how, because this government does not give benefit to the poor and needy.

"Mohamd bouazazy. The guy who burnt himself did it out of despration.
The guy had a uni degree and couldn't find work, and when he worked in the street. They took his belongings away."

Same thing happens here. Many people with high masters and PHD degrees don't find jobs, the people of Bahrain are only patient. There was a young woman with a masters degree, she couldn't find a job so she sold water outside the financial harbor, her things were taken and she was imprisoned. There are many others like her. Moreover, people are illegally given the Bahraini nationality, bypassing laws in the constitution. These people are given more rights than the true Bahrainis, they are given great jobs (not only decent) and these jobs are high status jobs in the country, all managers and VIP's. They don't have good degrees, yet they get these jobs and Bahrainis with good degrees don't. Is that justice?

"And I can't start and talk about libya. 40 billoin dollar of oil that sould went to renovate the country. Are in his pockets"

So is the oil money here; in the pockets of AlKhalifa.

"I hear ur education system is one of the best in the area"

What you hear is statistics; people here care about their education, so they go to school. I admit it is better than other education systems, but it's pretty much the same as the rest of the countries in the gulf. We have these so called "education reforms" which in my opinion are not much, because they're just change, the content and delivery is exactly the same, the only change is in representation.

"Anyone who wants to learn abrod or inisde the country for university people is compelely free.
Other than that you get a monthly salary if your learning. "

Your information is somewhat right here, but still, you are missing the details. The students are chosen (a few, not all) to study abroad and get salaries and these have to have a really high GPA (over 95%). Moreover, most of the students chosen for these scholarships are the illegally nationalized students. As for most students, they pay their fees just like in any other country, some of these students are in debt because of all the fees they pay.

I think you said something about the army and how Bashar alasad owns it. It's the same here, AlKhalifa own the army and the members of the army are not Bahrainis, so they are just following orders.

"My friend. My heart is with you and with the people of bahrin,
But in no means was this amount of bledshed needed.
My openion would be, if I'm living a good life under a roof with good education
Let them have the power. Not like its going to harm us."

Thank you for the support, but remember, we are not shedding the blood, they are (AlKhalifa). If it was in our hands we would have stopped the bloodshed long ago. It is worth the loss though, because we have been living in the shadows of AlKalifa for more than 230 years, I was talking about the prime minister when I said 40. It will harm us if we stayed like we were or silenced ourselves, because AlKhalifa like I said in my previous post, they get what they want, they step on our rights and they take what we have. We own what we have and it is not their right to take it. It is our right to speak, they cannot silence us. If we didn't rebel, we'd be living in hell, the king calls himself god for goodness sake (not upfront, but he uses gods name as his and he is the only king in the world whose person is untouchable). We were not living a good life, we were being robbed, our people were being harassed, imprisoned and tortured. Futures were being lost. I apologize, but I cannot stand dumb as my rights are being violated and any war which happens is their responsibility.
