Seeing as we are moving forward from all the bull, I was wondering?

Is freedom of speech possible without offending others?

Cause we all know that everyone has different opinions..Lol.

If it is done kindly and with consideration then yes.

    Say... I tell my daughter
I don't like your style of clothing makes you look fat

    versus

You know... this outfit looks a lot better on you and brings out more of an appeal.

    Same message just said differently.

Respect is the key word, I think, and realizing how your words may come across..so in other words: put yourself in the boots of the one you are addressing before you actually say what you want to say.

No, it's not possible without offending others. If a rascist, or sexist, or child molester tried to explain andabout their beliefs/sexual wishes, in a public place, it wouldn't matter if they handed out free cookies and spoke in ye olde polite english, I'd still call the police.

Freedom of speech extends only so far as to not include limiting the freedoms or rights of others in what you say.

So, you can talk in your town center about your stamp collection, you can even do so with a pinwheel hat on, covered in baby oil (so long as you aren't naked), but you can't talk about abusing kids, or beating your wife because she didn't make you dinner.

There is a line in the sand.

Good point, Kevin! Very good point!

Lol, Kevin, there is a difference between publicly admitting to an offense and giving voice to our inner most feelings, or even just your opinion.

I think what Noir is referring to, is how to both say what you think without things getting out of hand..to respectfully agree to disagree?

Some are saying that the Egyptian revolution began on face book but I think it was exodus

Did I not cover enough possible interpretations for your liking Ingrid dear?

I am sorry, I must try harder.

    : )

  • Ingrid

Lol, no you did, Kevin. But committing to an offense is ruled out on forehand as something one would be able to talk about without repercussions. :) Still love your pic!

And please elaborate some more, I love seeing your posts on the forum.

Also and again ignorance may allow, this administration is working towards a master shut off button for the internet. They are in cahoots with google right now. Excuse is protection from foreign dangers. When in fact it is merely a tool sought to stifle opposition

    ^^
Are you serious, Don? You are talking about America, right? Not China? Do you have a link for me, so I can read about this some more? I would love to share this with a friend who sends the latest on scientific and political progress to me and others in his daily newsletter. You can pm it to me, if you prefer.

It is ironical that the second amendment in the US comes right after the first

The freedom of ideology has always had to be defended ....hopefully peacefully

^^Lol...You're so fluent in teabag before this post...Don't ruin you're dialect now...

Its funny how all the things that use to actually rile people way back when, is accepted and even celebrated.

Kevin gives one end of the spectrum. But what if I go up in Hyde Park and actually speak on how the Quran and Islam is actually a vehicle of peace.

I believe that our current climate affects our level of being offended.

Make no mistake the tea party movement was quick to criticize Jon Stewart for inviting a Muslim Yusuf Islam to his rally to sing peace train

The right wing radio is extremely against any dialog between Christians, Jews, and Muslims

Hyde Park is a town located in the northwest part of Dutchess County, New York, United States,

Noir was probably talking about Hyde Park London

Noir's link is actually better than mine

Even though the nuts that assassinate abortion doctors would love to find sanctuary in the right ring they are as welcome as the Muslim brotherhood would be to their radical base

If you were speaking about the Quran in only positive terms Noir, I don't think, at least in the UK, anyone would have a problem with it. You'd be just another religious salesman in the street and would get ignored like the rest of them do.

Of course you if read the Quran out loud a bit more literally(IE not just the nice bits) , you'd get your face mashed in, probably by angry feminist lesbian punk rockers from Leith (a pretty hard core area of Edinburgh).

Similar legislation aimed at imposing Chinese-style censorship of the Internet and giving the state the power to shut down networks has already been passed globally, including in the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

    ^^

Thanks Donald....this is scary stuff. I already know about China, my girlfriend there cannot see my blogs, Youtube, Facebook etc. She accepts this without questioning and to me this is mind blowing..but on the other hand I also doubt very much it is safe to be able to share so much on the net. I heard the other day a woman's private life was spread by accident by Google..things that were so private, it would cause an instable person to do drastic things to themselves if it were to become public knowledge and will certainly damage their reputation.

In my country the government is working on a "filter", they say it is to scan all traffic to catch pedophiles that buy and sell child porn. I am all for that, may they all be caught and dealt with BUT they will scan ALL traffic when they put this new law into action, so all 16 milion people in my country will loose their privacy on the net( as far as they ever had it, lol!)

Did the left get someone to play GB in this drama?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul9YGlapNiA

Is the above drama a discussion or an argument?

    Real or fake?

Everyone is getting tired of biased reporting

Can this site handle comedy or would Emily Litella be banned?
