So, in army times, I just learned that soldiers, deployed or otherwise may be forced to report for duty without pay. I am a deployed soldier, this sounds like the first Military Strike in US History. Who do these people think they are threatening our families like that. My wife dosnt have a job, shes a student. Dosnt they relieze that soldiers have bills to pay.

Is that you in the pic?

I am sorry to hear soldiers are treated this way in the USA, it is a shame and yes, off course you also need money to survive!

All the best and take care, man.....

This just in, We are getting paid, but only the basics, no special pays. All the extra money we get for deploying is about to go out the window, hurting alot of soldiers plans and hopes for the future. Piss Poor Planning Prevents Proper Preformance, these are the five Ps in the army, they squindled our budget, now we have to take away from soldiers, so the soldiers moral will be down, so they wont preform to the best of their abilities.

If the government shuts down, I think most people will know whose idea it was. Most of us remember when it bacfired on Newt Gingrich when he was the speaker of the house. The house which the democrats wil be sure to take back in 2012 if the republicans are stupid enough to pull this political stunt again.

Well, the fact that we are loosing speical pays while deployed is no lie, we just got breifed the other day by our commanders, Wer getting paid, just base pay and bah, im in afganistan, and im only getting 2100 a month, while some ass whole baseball player is making MILLIONS, why the hell dose he deserve that much money and I get bottom barrel?

Oh that's right Donald I amost was convinced by the republican lies that it was urgent to appoint a president that did not get the popular vote in 2000 The republicans have never governed and they don't know how to govern. That is why their slogan is less government. The republicans set the Bush tax cuts to expire so that it would look like it was a decocrat that created a debt. Taxes pay for goverment protections got that. Now that ederly will have to hyave their entitlements cut to pay for the tax breaks for millionaires

Free loader is another right wing myth. I guess you believe that the only people that work are the ones that have the most to protect. Don't miss the boat donald my point had nothing to do with the power of the state that the federal courts ignore . My point is that the voters are fed up with passing the buck ...got it

The lie the right is trying to sell is the tax cuts will generate a higher GNP which increase revenues. So the Deployed soldiers should get a raise for protecting the new world trade center... right!!!

"The Republicans blamed Clinton for the shutdown, and Clinton blamed the Republicans. Public opinion favored the president; Clinton's approval rating fell precipitously during the shutdown[1], but once it had ended they rose to their highest since his election."

I just think it's absolutely disgusting that they could THINK about doing that to men and women that fight for their countries...

First off, we are not "puppets", just so its known, WE ALL THINK FOR OURSELVES! Dont talk about things you dont understand. We are NOT being controled, we are guided, the higher ups come up with a plan, they tell us the brod schem and we need to figure out how to make it happen, SOLDIERS are out here makeing the real decisions based on the information available, the Gen. only puts out the rules and guidlines we must abide by, and within those rules we make the plan come to life. (Sometimes breaking these rules) So shut up with your socialistic idologies.

Im not worried about MY living quarters, nor MY meals, but I have a family, and these pay cuts are taking things away from them. The kind of extra we where getting was for being in a place where death is likely to happen at any given minute. Why shouldnt I get more for being out here? I mean, I joined the army for the sake of a steady paycheack and the fact that we made more money while deployed, now I dont. And what Im saying about the whole athletes make more then us, is why take money from soldiers when they should be looking at people who make ALOT more money then we do. OH, and let me just say, your athletes dont work nearly has hard has your Armed Forces do, nor are they away from their families nearly has much, I work my ass off, and what I do saves peoples lives and I love my job, not the pay, but the job in itself is very satisfying, what dose an athlete accomplish? A Super Bowl? The World Series? The Final Four? I save lives and protect your freedoms, like all soldiers do. And what do we ask for in return, some respect, a decent paycheack, and our families benifits to be untouched. Is that alot? Is that anything compared the millions of dollars wasted on some dude that runs around in tights? Sure they put their bodies on the line for the sake of entertainment for you, but we put our lives on the line for your protection. SO, if you think that soldiers dont deserve more then what they are getting, then just remember who gives you the right to voice that opinion.

PS. I do agree with the fact that you dont have to be a soldier to be a patriot. We wouldnt be a great country with out properly trained teachers, police men, firefighters, post men, and many more, these are the people that keep our country working, we troops keep you safe. And yes, I do understand that soldiers are not the only ones that put their lives on the line for this country, I am sorry if I gave that impression at any point, I honnor our dieing policemen and women, our firefighters, our swat teams, our private security companys (except for blackwater, those guys are way to nuts) that die in the line of duty.

Look, Im not that gung ho to be honest, and yes, I do believe what im doing here is makeing the world a better place, you think were here without a reason, we are here fighting someone who killed a shit ton of people on a very important day, September 11th 2001, or did you forget about the taliban? Also, we are building schools for these peoples children, providing them jobs, and honestly, that comment about dont talk about what you dont understand, that was toward you, its obvious to me you probly havnt even had a soilder close to you, other wise you would have alot more respect toward us, and you would understand how much we really do think for ourselves, alot of didnt join to be patriots we joined becouse we had little options left. Example, I grew up pretty poor, I couldnt afford college, my mom didnt make enoph for that, so I had to pay my own way, so I joined the army to pay for it. And to be honest, theyre taking free college away from us has well, unless we have it in a contract

I have a great deal of respect for the military from the lowest ranking soldier to the commander and chief. I was on my way to work at a military base when the world trade center was attacked and it seems ironical that the commander and chief, that was appointed by the supreme court, was honoring school teachers by reading My Pet Goat. It does not seem right for me to say that the people that were told to remain calm and seated in a burning building were later covered by the rhetoric that that commander kept us safe for eight years. The air force base I went to was in delta threat con though I or the president was never in any real danger.

If I did not understand political rhetoric I could easily laugh at the comparison of heroes from athletes and other elites to other heroes . It is an epitome of disrespect to call a school teacher, firefighter, or street soldier a freeloader. My aunt Agnes was a Sister of charity and a school teacher and though she did not live in the poverty that Mother Teresa she was my hero.

Bob, thanks for the honesty, but one thing that actually gets a little under the collar for me is being called a puppet. not a great word for me.

Anyways, I wont say sorry personally for my reasons to join. and also, I dont care what an athlete dose, you dedicated your life to hockey, knowing it may never pay off has far has cash wise, and you didnt make it. You sacraficed needlessly in my opinion. I sacraficed for the sake of supporting my family, knowing full well it would pay off, so that makes me wrong? Also, I have worked hard on my dreams has well, joining the sevice was one step closer, it paid for my schooling, I am a psych major. And i would also like to say, yes my wife can get a job, but at the moment, shes focusing on school herself, shes a full time student studying to be a nurse, wich is her lifes dreams. I grew up poor, below poverty, dreams never came into reach has a child, I didnt get my first car till I got a job and paid for it, even then it was an old beat up 68 dodge charger that now is looking really nice, Ive had for the last 7 years and been working on it sence. I dedicate myself to everything I do. also, the reasons I joined had nothing to do with patriotism, but still, I feel that ihave displayed the willingness to sacrafice not just a little to acheive my dreams, but alot. I train hard, work hard and study hard, everything I do is for the sake of making my families life better. When I get out I want the security of knowing my daughter dosnt have to worry about the things she needs, I dont spoil her, but she NEVER needs for anything, why, becouse of the sacrafice her daddy made, and shes proud of me for that, and so is my wife, and in the end, thats all that matters to me is their well being. I dont want the money for the sake of buying a new TV, or a brand new sports car, or even a huge house. All I want is for them to be safe, healthy and happy. just so you, Im studying to be a psychologist, Ive study psych sence I was 10 and fell in love with it, and I dedicated my life to accomplishing that goal for myself, so i can help other people, my dreams dont stop here, this is a stepping stone.

Sorry for the rant, Ive had a very long night, and I kind of went into auto pilot while typing.

Ok, Good for you, you feel satisfied in your life and your sacrafices where worth while, and no I dont let this go to my head, I let anger go to my head when people try to downsize what it is I do for my family, I probly said alot of things in self defence and anger towards you, to me it sounded like you thought you paid out way more in life then we do, like you where completly downsizing the military. Sorry for speaking out of line. Ive been very tense latly and Ive directed it toward this crowd. So, please, accept my apology, it was stupid and selfish of me to say those things and down talk anyone else. Im sorry for my letting my anger get the best of me.

Add on, Why I joined and why Im still in are mostly completly differnt things. I still like the med benifits my wife gets, I still like the fact that I get a steady paycheak, Im just mad that money isnt what we, the soldiers where promised anymore. Even when I was a civilian I thought soldiers deserved the highest respects, I have a brother whose been in for years. I wasnt much of a patriot when I joined, but I am now, those who judge on the reasons they join and ignore the reasons they stay in are wrong. The past is the past. Leave it there. But just has a normal employ of any job, wouldnt a pay deduction piss anyone off?
