Gun Control- Your Views please

Kev, what you said reminds me of the saying...
"You wouldn't bring a knife to a gun fight now would you"

In order to defend yourself from intruders you should be matched by their weapons. Fight fire with fire so to speak.

I understand most everyones take on this, though I will have to agree with something Britt said. It all starts at home people. Take for instance the Columbine massacre, Klebold and Harris had long thought this out, wrote journals about it and such. Are you being a bad parent for reading your childs journal? I don't think so a bit, you may be saving your child and someone elses. In todays society we think we know everything about our children, we believe what they say and will defend our children to the death of us, even if they are wrong.
Today, we are afraid to discipline our children and try to be more friends with them rather than parents. We live with the mentality that "Little Johnny would never create all this havoc and try to blow up a school, he wouldn't hurt a flea." Truth is most (I stress most, not all) households with children, the parents do not have a clue. As to the Columbine massacre, there was a foreshadowing to the event. Both boys had been in trouble with the law prior and vowed revenge. One of the boys was on antidepressants and that in itself is enough of a warning for me to think hmmmm something just isn't stable enough about this person. They need to be watched carefully. (I know that is not the case with everyone that takes antidepressants). My point in all this, yes there should be some constraints on gun control, though the majority of the murders that have taken place could have been prevented if people would open their eyes and quit being so close minded as to think "my child would never" It all starts at home, upbringing and social interaction. Ever hear of the song "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam. It is about another messed up teen, who instead of committing murder, he committed suicide. It is bases on a true story, (actually two true stories).

**Someone asked about the release of the kids from Columbine and should their rights to own guns be restored. First of all they committed suicide so they aren't being held and will not have that chance.
I believe there are certain crimes that should be pardoned for felons to have access to guns. Other more heinous crimes committed I believe the felon should rot in hell before ever being allowed to see the light of day, and never have access to outside things, let alone a gun.

It all boils down to parenting not gun control. Open your eyes to your children and you will in fact be opening your eyes to societys preventitive maintenance.

Btw I will keep my guns, I still think you can kill just as easily with other weapons. So should they all be banned as well?

"We granted this appeal to determine the following issues: (1) whether the secret police
videotaping of the defendant's conversations, while alone with his parents in a police interview
room, violated the defendant's rights under the FourthAmendment to the United States Constitution,
article I, 7 of the Tennessee Constitution, and the federal and state wiretapping statutes; (2)
whether the defendant's Miranda rights were violated; (3) whether later confessions made by the
defendant should have been suppressed under the derivative evidence rule; and (4) whether the
trial court erred in the sentencing phase by refusing to charge the no-adverse-inference instruction." I know the parents that filed this appeal. I know that parents of a young man who got out of a life sentence by an involuntaty manslaughter plea though he shot and killed killed his best friend. He will not spend the rest of his life in jail like the one whose parents made the above appeal

I sat up all night with a nephew that had two 22 caliber bullets removed from his lower gut and watched him beg for pain killers . I latter leaned from his brother that his wife lied about what happened to the gun, though I will never believe she shoot her husband

Many would say I am brainwashed because I am neutral on the current gun laws , but I don't see any easy way out.

You need guns to defend yourself from guns. Someone breaks into your house, they aren't there to kill anyone, they are probably desperate and looking for a quick bit of cash. If they have a gun, it's probably because they suspect you, the owner might have a gun."

Sorry I just had to laugh at this quote... The next time someone wants to break in my house, I'll give him a cup of tea before he's on his way...

Fact is we need guns for protection... My previous neighbour was robbed seven times, and was stabbed twice... He's a fairly old man, so he can't swing a bat as effectively or use a knife...

He can't move nor can the police find the culprits... I'm all for guns for protection... If you come to my house to steal or try anything heinous, expect to be in a body bag...

If you're going to quote me please quote me verbatim, as it totally changes the tone of my question.

And obvious to only those that live in such a society where you only feel safe when you go to bed with a gun tucked under your pillow, and aren't you talking freedom as well, but where does your freedom end? Where to you draw the line, the freedom to shot somebody that walks on your land?

In the two main countries I have lived in Australia and New Zealand the Gun laws are now stricter that they ever were. thats not taking my freedom away no more than it is to have to stop at a red traffic light, and whos going to come and take everything we/I have? Russia America Indonesia etc etc?? I never said that the army or police should be without guns

Ive travelled and worked in a number of counties where guns are prevalent especially Africa and Asia, and I have friends who worked in South America One of the trucks I drove still had a gun shot hole from when 7 people off one of the tours were held hostage by a bunch of young locals and killed in Zimbabwe Why because they thought they were tough and they had guns. Have you seen whats going on in Brazil where young kids from 10 and 12 are running around with guns killing each other, but its not just confined to the kids, its right across their whole society, problem is its so ingrained that the government are almost powerless to stop it. Is that the sort of society you want because its already happening in your own back yard, kids in your own country are armed. The more guns the more problems and if you cant see that I suggest you go have a look

    I want a raygun.
So, i've been perfecting the BH Zapper gun; which
when fired, a mini black hole hits the being or object and they are immediately gone. No blood, no guts, no spagettification, no visual mirage, just gone; swallowed up; to where? We just don't know.
There is only one prototype, so, I'm thinking I'm going to destroy this BH Zapper, it is much to powerful for the people of the Earth and much to
powerful for one mere mortal to possess!

In our state, Georgia, I know hunters that are 4 and 5 years old. As long as they have a parent with them in and they can hold up the gun then they are allowed to hunt.

Year before last my three of my four children recieved for guns for Christmas.

Oh gees, am I bad parent?

ah don't get your panties in a wad, they were bb guns. Which I know many don't even agree with that. Do I care? No, it is our right!

Geez ammo is already too expensive. Trust me though If ever I do have to shoot someone (God forbid) there will be no question that I meant it. But, it will be for self defense reasons!
