    This Is Just to Say

    I have eaten
    the plums
    that were in
    the icebox

    and which
    you were probably
    saving
    for breakfast

    Forgive me
    they were delicious
    so sweet
    and so cold

    -------------------
Probably my favorite William Carlos Williams poem, and probably the last for a while.

What do you think his tone is, in this poem?

Plum sweet, but a little cold without a humorous take from the consumers point of view.

Maybe this is a note he left his wife?

I'd lean towards your second interpretation, myself. Who could withstand the draw of an icy, tart-skinend, sweet-dribbling plum on a summer day? Mmmmm, I want summer so bad....

    Dorks!
he is saying: ALL I want to say, they were good especially that I had them behind your back ( JERK), now go get some more XD

    SEE SEE not hard.

    EDIT:

well at least I insist on the part..of " the feeling of doing it behind her back lol"

The tone was definately respectful, it shows the one who wrote it cares for the one whom it is adressed to( my guess is that it's from a loving husband) and he is a tease. Oh God, I could fall in love with a man who writes such notes. Also very sensual in his wording, a charmer:)

Perfect for this summer weather. A picnic with plums sounds lovely.

Well that's weird... it's warmer in Minnesota than somewhere else in America?? It's blue skies and fluffy clouds and 54 degree weather here right now. I'm going to go make a smoothie and read on my deck!
