This upcoming fall will be my first year off to college, a 5 hour drive from my parents, and im kinda nervous about it. ill be sharing a room with a complete stranger, a bathroom with an entire floor of people, food from a cafeteria for all meals of a day, and not all that much pocket money to spend. its a completely new and unfamiliar place, and maybe thats a good thing, im as excited as i am terrified.

so does anyone have any advice or anecdotes for people like me about to, 'leave the nest' so to speak, to be off to college?

It is way better not living in parents house in a way...I agree with Brit...when you first move out you tend to sometimes over do it...so be safe and responsible.

It will be scary and you'll be homesick for the first few weeks to a month but this year of college will be one of the best and most memorable years of your life. Don't force it... let freshman year act upon you naturally ;)

Everyone starts a little bit scared, but that feeling goes away and is replaced by something better. Hope you get a good roommate!

I'm in the same boat, TS. But no worries. Just remember, keep your head up and embrace the opportunity. Get involved in some groups and you'll make friends easily. And don't be afraid to call home a lot if you need to. It'll all work out, just stay on the optimistic side of the fire.
