    Eviscerate
    -verb

    Pronounciation:
    ih-VIS-uh-rate

    Defiintion:
    1. to remove the entrails from; disembowel
    2. to deprive of vital or essential parts: The censors eviscerated the book to make it inoffensive to the leaders of the party.

    Etymology:
c.1600 (figurative); 1620s (literal), from L. evisceratus, pp. of eviscerare "to disembowel," from ex- "out" (see ex-) + viscera "internal organs." Sometimes used 17c. in figurative sense of "to bring out the deepest secrets of." Related: Eviscerated; eviscerating.

NOTE: Figurative, poetic sense is attested before the literal term for disembowelment. Poets and abstract thinkers for the win! :D

    Quote with the word:
    "There are flood and drought
Over the eyes and in the mouth,
    Dead water and dead sand
    Contending for the upper hand.
    The parched eviscerate soil
Gapes at the vanity of toil,
    Laughs without mirth.
This is the death of the earth."
    - T.S. Eliot

To eviscerate the drama from Shakespeare could kill the poet . "All the world is a stage"

If not for winners and whiners, mods and clubs it seems at times the members message forum would be eviserated.

Both "sides" need to stop using forum threads to take digs at each other.

Please keep WOTD's peaceful, guys, no underhanded insults. Everyone should feel welcome.

Guys does everything have to be a fight? I apologise and will remove my comment. I was merely joking, but respect is respect here. Perhaps you'll get used to me eventually.

You know, when your sense of humour goes, you're in trouble.

Liquid Grace, you're in trouble if you are taking my suggesting eviscerating whiners as a serious statement.

Or do you just want to argue about everything today? Got the painters in love? Ask them to paint a smiley face over your face will ya?

Oh, I hear ya. Kevin, check out my wagon analogy a few threads ago. Classic. Really proud of it.

Jordan, you rock socks and jocks. You know, I think the first post should just include the definition and quote, and then people should guess the etymology. A game of "where could this word have come from?" could be entertaining. You could unveil the answer after a few posts. The losers could be eviscerated.

Amanda is a grown woman and perfectly capable of standing up for herself, but I will intervene if it means preventing this from escalating. Don't think I don't realize you're trying to get a reaction out of her to prove your points ;)
Hopefully she doesn't feed into it.

Nuff said. Don't make me eviscerate you!

    Excuse my double negative.

Abby your suggestion is in my bank.

Kevin, I will always make jokes as long as you're around. Thanks for reminding me that there's nothing wrong with it.

Jane. Hey, just make sure that you keep watching out for us Club members. Keep pretending all you want is to be a real mod but we all know your main agenda. :P

Enough.... I have had enough of everyone trying to add fuel to everything!

No more digs about the club taking over because I will tell you right now that it WILL NOT happen.

Some of you are being just plain mean and purposely taking digs to entice others in a feud. I will not tolerate it!

This is the second warning to get this thread back on track of today's Word Of the Day. Next time the thread will be locked.

William Wallace had guts before the English eviscerated him.

Brave hearts focused on the drama of the passion of Christ have an enviscerated soul.
To enviscerate the hate would be to redeem the world
