After a blustery week of hot air circulating, the general elements have calmed. A few squalls are possible due to the constant rise and deflation of ego's. All members should take heed, this has been a Main Board Weather Report. If you spot a wordnado, take cover and when it is safe to return, please call the National Moderation Federation Communication Connection.

The truth is like the sun. Seems it clouds up and rains even where the gods are suppose to be high and dry

God moves in passion and rests in reason

Sherry would you like to give us shelter from the storm?

Bob, well I might be older than Xaviers momma but I haven't went through the "change" yet.

As for Wally he is gone taking a class for the S.O.

Michael, I think we could all use some sheltering.

BTW, last roadkill I ate was last night, had a wonderful opossum stew, want some?

Written by Jimmie Rodgers - Clayton McMichen
    Recorded by Hank Snow

When it's peach picking time in Georgia apple picking time in Tennessee
Cotton picking time in Mississippi everybody picks on me
When it's roundup time in Texas the cowboys make whoopee
And way down in old Alabama it's gal picking time for me
There's a bluegrass down in Kentucky Virginia's where they do the swing
Carolina now I'm a coming to you come and just to spend the spring
Arkansas I hear you calling I know I'll see you soon
That's where we'll do some picking beneath the Ozark moon

    [ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/peach-picking-time-in-georgia-lyrics-hank-snow.html ]

When the picker is picking cotton that's the time I pick a wedding ring
We'll go to the town to pick a little gown for the wedding in the spring
Hope the preacher knows his business I know he can't fool me
When it's peach picking time in Georgia it's gal picking time for me

"No don't eat possum, but I'll take some rattlesnake, some rabbit, some deer or bear."

Well, I finally quit my day job at the dealership and opened up my own business doing exactly that, I process deer, turkey, hogs etc. We even did some goats for some people. They wanted to slaughter them there though, which I didn't care to see. I forget what religious holiday it was for but they shared the goat and it ate well. Though the horns were a little tough:)

Ha ha, wordnado, you are funny, Kay.

It's summer here by the way, no idea how long it'll last, but we are all enjoying the warmth!

    Michael,

I love that song though never heard it performed by the above. I come from a large musically talented family (me: can't carry a tune in a bucket)and at some of our family reunions I remember my granny, great aunts, and uncles singing that song.

    Thanks for the memories.... :)

Ingrid, we are just starting our summer but you know here in the south it gets HOT quick. We have already had a couple of days just shy of 90 degrees fahrenheit. Nothing new to see several days of over 100. Ickkk.... not looking forward to it though. I prefer the fall.

There is one thing standing in the way of me being a folk star .. I can't pick and sing

Elvis's Dixie old times not forgotten is dramatic and stormy to some cotton pickers

An old woman I help from time to time said she remembers the back breaking pain of picking cotton but I should not mention that in unicorn lolipop land as Sibs would say lol

  • Daisy if you do

    Michael,

I am actually trying to write a poem about my granny growing up and picking cotton. She had to do it, as it was a means of survival. She was the eldest of 8 and her momma died in childbirth at the age of 32 and it left my granny to tend to her siblings at the age of 13. She had it hard. Every time I hear Elvis' song dixie it brings tears to my eyes of what they went through. Funny how some just "Look away, Look away".

I can't help but always get nostalgic when hearing songs like "Coal Miners Daughter" as my dad is from W. Va. and he, his dad and grandad were miners. My dad got out and joined the air force but he never forgot his roots.

Unicorn lolipop land? Okay inquiring minds want to know? You mean the main forums? Because of the insinuation that it could be racist? I hope no one thinks that is racist if that is the case. It's a part of the culture, history and past. So be it. My granny was "white", but she sure picked her share.

  • Michael D Nalley

The lady I was refering to was white also. I voted for the sitting president though I doubt Bob and Donald did but that does make them racist

We don't need to know the age race, location, sex or religion of the people that visit this forum

Some of my favorite poems were inspired from what I learn about human nature in these forums.

If I can't beat the calm before the storm I thought that bob could teach me how to behave, seeing as how he is so good at it. lol

Wew... 90 already? We are used to about 57 degrees F. around this time. It is now about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. 100 is an absolute maximum for Holland...I can imagine it would be hard to undure such high temperatures each summer..

  • Daisy if you do

Aww c'mon Michael it doesn't make them racist if they didn't vote for the current president Obama. It only makes you racist if you voted for someone else because of Obamas skin color. I didn't vote for him either, but think that Bill Cosby would be a great president. Hey who says it couldn't happen, we had a movie star once, and now we have had a "black president" just mix the two and you have Bill Cosby. I like a lot of his political views.

Ingrid, the mean temp here in the summer is upper 90's but you have to factor in the heat index, the humidity makes it seem like it is a tropical jungle. So with heat index usually add about 7-10 degrees on top of what the thermometer says and thats what it actually "feels" like.

    Another Edit:

I would soooo love to visit Holland, among my other places to visit, Ireland, Germany, Australia, and Brazil. Though, if I ever get the chance to go "anywhere" it would be my daughter and I visiting Macchu Picchu in Peru. That would be the ultimate.

I thought that is what I said Dixie. Donald is a friend of mine on face book and so is Bob I am an ASS and no one ever seems to know when I am sincere or sarcastic

I am trying to be neurotypical but Sherry warned me against using my affliction as a crutch the same way Bob says not to use religion

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and dog gone it people like me!

We had a rough one, but made it through, thank God.

Yes Michael, bygolly you are a likeable person. :)

I understand about the not knowing about sarcasm as you didn't get my "joke" one time either. By the way your zejel was really good. You should post it.

I don't remember it as I was not born or either very young when it happened. I have been told the story though. Forgot his name after all this time. Is he held in high regard for the most part? I know he was one weird viewed individual, but I think most give him credit for not being like Los Angeles during riots. Most can say what they want but I don't believe for a second he didn't know what the officers were doing when they stripsearched the blank panthers. Yeah, I may not agree with the tactics but I agree with the cause.

"Roflamo...wow, don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.....personally I'm with JPM, I can't stand your ass, but you are great for the site...other than that...pfft." BS

I know what my Aunt would say "that's a queer thing to say "She really would. She was was a Sister of Charity for over seventy years

PS Bob you might want to tone your enthusiasm for JPM down a bit. It is starting to appear strange

I would not stoop to his level . I still remember the raps left on the boards where JPM wrote about a Janis & Dianz affair . We both know that literary geniuses have over active imaginations.

BTW I was educated at a catholic school. The nuns taught us to turn the other cheek before we beat the hell out of a bully lmao

I know you and the other mods love me as much as I love you all

    You did?

    some things never change

Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) has often been quoted as saying: "Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it"

I know you Old Goats can appreciate the weather, I'm a Lil Ole Goat too, but not a Wether, Ha,Ha.

Now whether you believe me or not, the Mark Twain quote, "Every body talks about the weather but does nothing about it" reminded me of Tanya Tuckers song, "Lizzy and the Rainman"

    Step back non-believers
or the rain will never come
someone start that fire a burnin
    somebody beat the drum
    some may think i'm crazy
    for making all these claims
I swear before this day is over
you folks are gonna see some rain

Now me Big Chief, let me see what I
can drum up, bom! bom bom bom, bom! bom bom bom. Here come a couple of squalls now, me get a reservation, before I get wet!
