I'm too tired to think of all five of my favorite horror movies right now so I'll just name one and one book. Lol.

    Movie-- Silence of the Lambs
    Book-- The Stand

    Both by Stephen King. (:

If you are interested in horror, really look into Stephen King...and maybe you would like some of Dean Koontz's writing?

Well, if you look at em real closely, old school movies have very unique storylines plus the directors did some of the most awesome directing ever, Hitchcock, Polanski et alia... anyways, some like em, some not, its just how it is. lol. :D

I'm not talking about movies like scream. I'm talking about "Dead Silent" and "Friday the 13th" and all those other predictable ones. And "The Exorcism of Emily Rose".
    Hate modern 'scary' movies. :-/

Alright, I know I'm going to get laughed at, but the Blair Witch Project scared the crap out of me. Also, The Descent (mixed with a childhood fear of Wells' Morlocks) has me permanently afraid of sub-terrainian humanoids.

I feel most uncomfortable in movies where the horrors are unseen, and you just feel that tension. Yeeeeesh. I can't do horror movies.

^Night of the Living Dead is a classic. "They're coming to get you, Barbara!"

    Psycho, a definite Classic
"Norman, have you been peeking at those women again?" "No Mother, why do you ask?" "Norman, your sticker is pecking out, again." "Mother!"

Do not watch American Psycho around family or anyone you could potentially feel incredibly awkward around during X-rated scenes. It's bad.
    I read the book too.

    And how could I forget...
    1. The Evil Dead
    2. Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn
3.(Evil Dead III): Army of Darkness
Man, I love this trilogy. :D
^ That American Psycho thing, is it really that bad?

^ I totally agree with you Sib, The Descent is probably one of the few movies I've watched recently that had me scared, haha. There's actually a second Descent movie too. I made my mom watch it with me, haha.

When I was in my early-mid teens I was a horror buff and I never scared easy (I actually think I enjoyed the thrill of it all), although there were a few exceptions. I'm not much of horror movie buff anymore, not necessarily because they frighten me but because I've lost interest in them. I'm more into romantic comedies, action and suspense/thriller. I also like true stories, such as true crimes.

I can't stand extremely graphic horror movies, one in particular that I'd started watching and I just had to stop half-way through. I've yet to finish it and I never will. That was The Collector (2009). The nature of the movie was simply graphic. My breaking point, if at any point in a movie I see someone's guts hanging out of them I am done. It was deeply disturbing, not just because it was so graphic but because how "real" it is.

    ----

Would anyone care to explain the difference between/define horror and suspense (as well as thriller)? Just something I've been wondering. I have my own idea but sometimes I get the two mixed up.

    Evil Dead
    The Serpent and the Rainbow
    Amityville Horror
    Pet Cemetary
    Damien the Omen
    The Exorcist

Sorry a few more than 5 here.
I agree with Blair Witch Project, just the whole movie had my heart racing. It doesn't matter nothing was gory or you never actually see anything. Imagine yourself in that and see if you aren't scared spitless.

"I totally agree with you Sib, The Descent is probably one of the few movies I've watched recently that had me scared, haha. There's actually a second Descent movie too. I made my mom watch it with me, haha."

I saw that there was a sequel, but I don't know if I can watch it. That would just be masochistic, I think. "WHY WOULD YOU GO BACK TO THE CAVE?!" < That was my response to hearing about the premise.

Interesting point, though - Did you watch the American version of the Descent, or the British one? The endings are pretty different, and would determine the... feasibility of the sequel.

"I agree with Blair Witch Project, just the whole movie had my heart racing. It doesn't matter nothing was gory or you never actually see anything."

Definitely. What I can imagine in a vague way is always going to be way more unsettling than anything they could actually show me on the screen (at least as far as movie monsters go).
