Revolutionary Poet

My friend and colleague Ayaat AlQurmizi is facing military court for a poem. It has been about 2 months since they took her, but it didn't come to my mind to put it here until now.

She is an inspiration for me to how poetry speaks loudly and can make a difference. Sometimes I wish I were as brave as she is.

Imagine hiding because you're wanted by authorities for a poem you wrote. Then your house is entered by force and your father threatened that if he doesn't show them where you are they'll kill your younger brothers... This is what happened to her.

I hope she is released soon, justice must take it's course and these tyrants should come to an end.

An article about the bravest Bahraini poet:

Yeah... but it's different when you've lived with the poet. When the poet is your friend.

and about china... OMG! why? According to my knowledge China hasn't got an official religion.

In her last trial she was asked minor, really silly questions, like; Don't you love the king? Doesn't the king pay for your education? Then the judge "couldn't handle listening to the voice which recited such foul words towards the government that he nearly cried" and her trial was postponed. After the trial they allowed her father to talk to her for an hour. She said that they insulted her, hit her on the head and spat in her mouth. :(

They have sentenced her to 1 year of prison.

Part of her poem... translated by Ghias Aljund:

We do not like to live in a palace
And we are not after power
    We are the people who
    Break down humiliation
    And discard oppression
    With peace as our tool
    We are people who
Do not want others to be living in the Dark Ages
