Is it obligatory as a poet to delve into other genres of poetry that is swaying from what you normally write about to trying something new.does it only make you versatile or improves your writing skills.hope you check out my poems and comment on them.i knw it would put me on my toe

It does help improve and prepare your ink for many things.

At first I was very experimental with rhyming pieces and learning new forms but I stayed away from free-verse. I still have trouble sometimes in getting the flow just right, but by going from short to lengthy stanzas and trying something new- it only opens up your mind and poetic imagination.

Go for it and good luck :)

Yes, as a poet, one should delve into many genres, and eventually, you'll stick up to the one you find yourself in, the most.

Like me, when I started, I used to write love, friends, death, horror, depression, rape poems...

But I find myself in dARK poems the most.. I think I can be more expressive in them !
