This is my first contest. I hope you P&Q members participate in big numbers :D

    You should write a new poem(s) that fit(s) a song(s) title below...

    ----->>NEW<<------ Rules/Regulations---->>NEW<<------

    * One or Two poems per person (If two poems, it should be different titles)

    * Two poems per title (different members)

    * You should reserve a title or two different ones

    * No old poems

    * The poem can't be less than 10 lines

    * The song title should be your poem title (but if you want to post your poem on your profile page, you can change the title :)

    * The poem can be of any format (rhyming, free verse...)

    * Profanity poems are accepted, but you shouldn't post it here.. PM it to me instead.

    * DEADLINE for reservations: 31 July, 2011

    * DEADLINE for submitting the poem/s: August 7, 2011 (Postponed to August 14)

** Dates can be subject to change (according to the number of reserved titles), so please visit this page regularly.

    --------------------- WINNING PROCEDURE----------------------------------

    * A poem is said to be winning if it has a good structure & flow, free of grammatical & punctuation mistakes, vivid with images..

    >> NEW!! <<

    = Judging Procedure Panel [Percentages]:
^ 10%: structure (coherence and unity)
^ 15%: flow (a smooth pace, not interrupted)
^ 15%: punctuation (dots, hyphens, semicolons...)
    ^ 20%: grammar (capitalization, errors...)
^ 40%: content (vivid images, wording, ideas, originality..)

-> Thus, the winning poems will be judged according to the total percentage (T%) they get. In case of a T% tie, the poems would get the same rank.
(PS: The T% only will be posted near the winning poems -only- for 'being fair' reasons)

    * If a member requests two titles, he/she can win two different awards (If one poem of his/hers wins, it could get the ranks, 1 or 2 or 3 or...., and maybe the second poem of his/hers wins, it would also get a different rank... maybe one only wins... maybe none)

    * If a member applies for two titles, the winning decision will be separate as the T% would be also (not based on the two poems combined with each other.. The first poem will be considered alone, the second also)

    ----------------------- CLIPBOARD ---------------------------------------
= The results would be announced on another thread in contests forum August 10, 2011 (Postponed till August 15) - along with the T%

    And here is mine! :)

Jar of Hearts - By - Noura Hatem (The Poetess)

    I'm treading my pride-
    yes, undressing you with
    vague pretexts that I myself
    had created, and playing
    back memoirs that hold
    you and whisk me away.

And I know it wasn't your
sin that my sanity had been
    abducted by your farewell,
still I weep by my window
    with fading eagerness, awaiting
    for your faraway apologies,
and still I set fire to my own
lips to get rid of your scent.

I gave you my heart though
I couldn't ever know it was
a hobby of yours to collect them,
nor could I behold that mine
was the finale, or that with it,
    you would vaunt, I artlessly
    envelopped it with Narcissus,
    Jasmine and candor,
then drop it within the jar
    you were holding so tight.

    - - - - - - - -

Can I pick another song title? :)

The House That Built Me - By - Noura Hatem (The Poetess)

    I once lived between
    perfumed orchards
    and a heart-shaped
    moon where peace
    hedges my arms and
    leans over the curves
    of my braids, as God
    garnishes the nocturnal
    hums by weird bracelets
    made of nebulas.

    I once knew
    happiness between
    your shoulders, sniffing
    peace.

    Time defrauds us all,
    yes, defrauds us
as you walked out of my
    dreams, leaving a wonder
    within the empty walls
    of my brain...

    "mother, was it your choice?"

    - - - -

    I once visited the Heavens
(Oh, how I yearn to troll
    along its eternal shores)
    but your palms soon wilted
and I was left to grieve,
as the moon wept at the
    peal of my tears.

Still I recall you with a
    blear spirit, along with
    suppressed childhood
    and woebegone secrets.

    Still I designate you, the
    faraway ambition that my
    desirous senses are aspiring
    after, and designate you
    the house that built me,
    still I know the newlywed
    stars that voyage amidst
    your eyes... by heart.

    Though you left me
    wondering...

    "Mother, you existed,
    didn't you?"

    - - - -

    And I once expected your
    return, just as a lovelorn
    owl awaits for her first
    never-coming tryst, yet
    impossibility forces me
    to be convinced that you
    are gone, evermore.

(As I nod my head, with
    distress.)

If I die young by Band Perry Please and Thank you :)

  • Black Heart Still Beating

I laced the bottom branch with
    a rope so tight.
    Made a noose
    I'll swing on all night.
    When my body grows limp
    I'll be at peace.

    Mommy can find me
    over hill and dale,
past the point where boats set sail.

    Daddy come and visit
    come see me soon.
Now I really am over the moon...

    The moon shone bright,
    on the cold night eve.
    Setting afire,
to the lake and the tree's.
    Swaying so soft;
    a rope on the branch

    If I die young,
    Mommy I'm okay.
My death just came without delay.

    If I die young,
    Daddy I'm fine.
Berrying you baby is not a crime.

    If all goes to plan,
    I'll die young

    -----------------------------------------------------
I had to re-do it, wasnt happy :P Hope you like the new one!

    Now every night,
    Under moonlight,
    I try to compare,
    At each layer,
    Stars after stars,
    So close so far,
    Just like you to me,
    A heartbeat i can't see,
    Some dull some bright,
    My only friends at night,
    The one near moon's arc,
    My only bright spark,
    It reminds me of you,
    So rare among the few,
    Besides moon & constellations,
    You are my only destination,
    Then clouds pass by,
and you love to play shy,
    I wave hands & try,
    I wish i cud fly,
    So near so high,
    and lost in ur sky,
    My heart goes insane,
When my efforts goes in vain,
    Then i wish upon you,
and want it to come true,
    No distance will come ever,
I will be with you forever,
    In this irresistible gloom,
    Like angels on d moon..

    Boulevard of Broken Dreams

    They say the road to hell is paved;
must be nice to walk on - smooth
and free of ruts. This hallowed broken
passage is rough, rips flesh just
struggling to plod on and stay erect.

Dreams die here between the holes,
    kicked into submission by tears
dribbling from red eyes as you
drop to bleeding knees the hundredth
time, sight jerked from the goal.

    Can't even remember anything but
    this godforsaken boulevard slipping
forever from under foot; no diners
to quench thirst, no shadow to keep
    company, just dead aspirations.

    Space Bound

    I dropped into the dream
    already in progress, for years
    it seemed, maybe eons;
    when you deal with stuff
    buried in the unconscious
    there is no time reference.

The ship left the pad, carried
    us to the outermost orbit,
    then cast us out to a slow drift;
we had to correct the spin
    to avoid Sun's glare,
so it took a moment to see Her.

    Earth, blue and white, darker
    shadows came into focus:
    continents - forms revealed
    creeping past us 100,00
    miles below our feet
    disappearing into the night.

She was so majestic I lost time
    again, could not remember
why we were here, or who
we were, just knew the feeling
of weight gone from my back
with no pain in my feet.

    Nudged in the side, turned,
a hand held out a bag, tools
    and pointed - the station;
    yes, the silent grave, non-stone
    marker of those before us
    died from no known cause.

    Released tiny streams of air
    enough to propel us to the hatch;
    turned the wrench, opened,
air hissed from the outer port,
    felt death; sealed out space
    and opened the inner door.

Bodies floated in the entry deck,
    suits unsealed, the answer clear:
a tiny hole let in sun blaze; larger
    gaping wound in opposite wall;
    space debris at mach 2000
    no one stood a chance.

    Before I began to philosophize
    about the suddenness of life
    stolen, being unprepared,
    I turned glimpsed earth through
the gap, recalled we weren't sent
to find out, but to correct.

    Power welled within my arms,
hands ejected gloves on their own
as aura raised from each finger,
    gathered together, enveloped
    the nearest corpse, pulled together
the suit and warmed the human.

Each of us brought back our target,
    raised body temp to 98
    and restored circulation
    where space had frozen blood;
    why they had not exploded
unknown, but blinking eyes don't lie.

    A full complement of crew
    and rescuers giving support
moved to the living area, sealed
    the door, repressurized the cabin
    and finally removed their suits,
    settling down to assess needs.

Often times have we been used
never before here in space, but now
that has changed; as man leaps out
he must draw on ageless hope,
keep close to him old friends,
so angels now will fly in space.

    I'm a rose,
    my time is close,
    but if I die young,
    I would pass my scent,
for those who believe in love.

    I'm a star,
    my end is not far,
    but if I die young,
I would make someone's wish run,
for those who believe in God.

    I'm a plant,
    my land is slant,
    but if I die young,
I would give my fruits and stem,
for those who believe in life.

    I'm a bubble,
    my breathe is in trouble,
    but if I die young,
I would give childrens some fun,
for those who believe in innocence.

    I'm a boy
for me life's just a toy,
    but if I die young,
I would pass all my strength,
for those who believe in humanity..

    "Teardrops On My Guitar"-
    (Playing Soundlessly)

Does he know I lay on piles of thorns
from roses I've held too close?
I've wished to send so much more
    than high school getaways-
he only sees my eyes for friendship,
not the kind of glances I take,
not the smiles I paint on
just so he'll think I am perfectly alright.

Why can't he see I am empty when he's gone?
He tells me flawlessly about the love he'll cling to
and I lose all breath, watching myself fade
without his song to keep me alive.

He is everything I desire, how will I live without him?
He is the one I see at home, in the middle of night,
wherever my mind begins to deserts me.

The stars kill- comets that burn tearfully
tearing the hot flesh of my heart
and pricking my face clear out of luck.

Angels On The Moon, Please :)

    "Angels On The Moon"
Can you see beyond the stars
    Beyond our galaxy afar
    I see it there
    I can feel their stares
    It's angels on the moon.
    They whisper in my ear
    Telling me not to fear
    There's angels on the moon.
Don't care about the little things
Cause i won't let you fall.
So tell me do you believe
    Of angels on the moon?
They whisper secrets i don't wanna know.
They tell me when life ends,
    And i don't wanna know.
Their the angels on the moon
    Who never leave too soon.
    Their here to guide me.
So don't wake me cause I'm dreaming,
    Of angels on the moon.

    Midnight Bottle

    Daytime set her face aglow
    The sun erased her pain
It was the night that broke her down
    Such darkness, inhumane

She'd down a bottle, maybe two
    Seducing sedate sleep
Thankful just to close her eyes
    And drift into the deep

A day will come, when she won't care
    When stars will shine again
Love will flow back to her heart
Like ink flows through the pen

Her soul will find the page once more
    She'll set the bottle down
    Reminsce of days gone by
    The moon her thorny crown

    "set Fire To The Rain"
I've told you hoe I feel
And I'll say it over and over till you hear
But at the same time I'm scared
I fear it will only push you further away.
    With my evil desires,
I'll set fire to the rain.
    I miss the times before
    When we first meet,
    When we first kissed,
The way you made me feel.
My hatred will set fire to the rain.
I miss the way you looked at me,
When you thought I didn't know.
    Our sparks lit the air
And set fire to the rain.
    I can feel I'm breaking
And I feel the empty spaces,
As we grow further and further apart.
I wish you would give in to me
As I have given in to you.
I wish you would comfort me
And reassure me of how you feel
    And why.
    I could go on forever,
    Which is why...
My tears will set fire to the rain.

    The Edge of Glory

On a break spent being astounded
as words fall powerlessly to the
mystical misery taking over my mind,
    speechless as emotions thrive
    beyond intelligence
    beyond what knowledge
    can realize.

Bear me to that edge of glory
    laying within the most majestic
    sadness ever tuned while
thinking of a song to write,
    perchance to feel.

Like a lazy river at the very
    immature hours of a morning
born by mistake, I lose the tide
    doing nothing but enjoying an
ultimate peace rippling inside of me
enjoying sadness to the quite last
    rock sleeping down the riverbed.

Proud of the wonder I craft
    when philosophy stands in awe
of what the heart can speaks of
    yet speaks not,
I reach the edge of what's
    no longer
    within...
