Daily Quote : Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho born August 24, 1947) is a Brazilian lyricist and novelist.

was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[1] He attended a Jesuit school. As a teenager, Coelho wanted to become a writer. Upon telling his mother this, she responded with "My dear, your father is an engineer. He's a logical, reasonable man with a very clear vision of the world. Do you actually know what it means to be a writer? After researching, Coelho concluded that a writer "always wears glasses and never combs his hair" and has a "duty and an obligation never to be understood by his own generation," amongst other things.

Well around 1986 he wrote several novels that left no impact until he wrote The Alchemist and published it through a small Brazilian publishing house who made an initial print run of 900 copies and decided not to reprint. He subsequently found a bigger publishing house, and with the publication of his next book Brida, The Alchemist became a Brazilian bestseller. The Alchemist has gone on to sell more than 65 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling books in history, and has been translated into more than 70 languages, the 71st being Maltese, winning the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author. TADA that's why I ADORE HIM.

Favorite quotes, from my favorite novels by him :

Treasure is uncovered by the force of the flowing water, and it is buried by the same currents

Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worse kind of suffering.

If you start by promising what you don't even have yet, you'll lose your desire to work towards getting it.

Life was always a matter of waiting for the right moment to act.

Love can consign us to hell or to paradise, but it always takes us somewhere.

Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream.

When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.

You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it.

When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Courage is the quality most essential to understanding the Language of the World.

It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.

    Oh and these :)

When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there's no need at all to understand what's happening, because everything happens within you

All you have to do is contemplate a simple grain of sand, and you will see in it all the marvels of creation. Listen to your heart. It knows all things, because it came from the Soul of the World, and it will one day return there

    more quotes :

Don't forget that everything you deal with is only one thing and nothing else. And don't forget the language of omens. And, above all, don't forget to follow your destiny through to its conclusion.

When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision

The boy reached through to the Soul of the World, and saw that it was part of the Soul of God. And he saw that the Soul of God was his own soul. And that he, a boy, could perform miracles.

When you are in love, things make even more sense.

The soul of the world is nourished by people's happiness. And also by unhappiness, envy, and jealousy. To realize ons desteiny is a person's only obligation. All things are one

When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too

I don't live in either my past or my future. Im interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you'll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we're living now

The only thing a man should do to avoid failures and regrets, is to do what their heart says

    omg how true!!

Love can consign us to hell or to paradise, but it always takes us somewhere.
    ^^^
    I disagree.

You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it.
    ^^^

You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it.

maybe we have to think of what we are told by our
greatest glory residing in the sense of rising whenever we fell, not in the chance of not falling at all...so here you ain't a failure yet when you fall into the river, but you fail when you aren't capable of rising back.. "staying submerged after you fell"... somehow :)

Thanks, Nana. I will try and read those books. I wish I could read them in his native language, so much gets lost in the translation..

If only people would dare and do this! So many let their brain dictate their actions....

    Thanks for the links, Nana:)

I like how this man thinks..he is a true philosopher, even if he didn't get an education in that field.

There is something about people who are born in the southern hemisphere...I feel they somehow are able to grasp the meaning of life better, because they are able to listen to their heart better and let it overrule their mind ( as opposed to people from the north)

The heart knows, while the head thinks it knows;)

    I totally agreeeeeeee with you!
And it's just amazing how he became one of the best sellers that fast, he just dazzles me!

I think he is a spiritual hack, a sort of crowd pleaser with no special insight into humanity. His books are good, don't get me wrong but most of his quotes are so fluffy and vague, they are sort of without weight.

    nice, but pointless.

I don't agree with you, Kevin. The simplest of statements often have the deepest meaning. When you, for instance, read what the Dalai Lama has to say, you will find simple language, but his statements are very true. In using every day language, you achieve something vital: the ability to reach as many hearts and minds as you can;)

I do appreciate how you always have a different view on things, lol. Typically Kevin:)
