Hi everyone, for the past several days, I've been preparing for Hurricane Irene (which is supposed to hit me on Sunday) here in Connecticut.

I just wanted to take the time to tell everyone here on the east coast of the U.S. to take precautions and stay safe. Best of luck to everyone and God Bless.

Joe, it is a good thing you are preparing for the hurricane. I think the world can use Katrina disaster as a lesson to protect lives. I hope it doesn't hit hard and will go away quickly. Stay safe.

Stay safe the hurricanes can be nasty. Are you all getting evacuated or just hunkering down? Are you real close to the coast or far enough inland that you will not get the brunt of it?

Hi everyone, today is the 31st of August, and I just got my power back. The streets flooded here where I live cause there is a river on my street. There were a few trees that fell around town which caused power outages. Here in Connecticut there was over 700,000 people without power due to the storm and more than 4,000,000 people lost power on the East Coast.

Luckily to my knowledge no one was seriously hurt here in CT except for one kid who got killed from a tree. I did however hear 10 people (not sure if that was the final count or not) had died on the East Coast during this storm.

I hope everyone living here on the East Coast turned out to be okay and safe. I'm glad to be back. :)

Glad to hear you're safe, Joe. I heard the "count" was at 18 a couple of days ago.

This is so bizarre. I live on the coast of Massachusetts, and all we got was a teeny tiny bit of rain.

Narph be thankful for that :)

Last count I heard was 24 people total have died from the hurricane. How sad. :(

We're good just loads of people without power as Joe pointed out. Most still without power around here. We got lucky and managed to have no power issues.

I no longer live in Canada, I'm now in upstate NY. Were we live it didn't get hit hard, it just missed us so we got rain but no heavy winds, but we were at my inlaws that got hit hard along with surrounding villages where flooding was a huge problem :/ Near Albany.

In comparison to the shore cities we didn't get it that bad but bad enough to cause a lot of damages. Locally we're holding a portrait session. A bunch of local photographers are volunteering to take photos for families who lost their homes and with it their prized possessions. While it doesn't replace anything they lost perhaps it will in one way or another put a smile on their faces.

46 people dying from a hurricene the size of europe is sad, yes, but @least you know the government did their best to minimize casulties.

here, in the city i live in, it rarly rains
once, or twice in each year, yet when it does
    it floods the whole city
in 09, more than 120 people died in 1 day due to raining (http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article243414.ece?comments=all)

this year even more people died when it rained, Somwhere around 500, but i couldn't find a link to it.

"(AP) Early estimates suggest the damage wrought by Hurricane, and then Tropical Storm Irene upon the East Coast will cost the US economy $7 billion"

Irene was accused by some as being a drama queen and though she fell short of the destructive force the earthquake in Japan I believe no other Atlantic hurricane in our lifetime will be called Irene

The tide turns, we must accept adverse actions
    That interfere with nuclear reactions.
Nature is not revolting when the world shakes.
Do we control eruptions and earthquakes?

Science sees signs, but may avoid the warning
Of environmental trends like global warming.
This planet has had to deal with emissions,
Having nothing to do with our decisions.

Changing for better or worse as each day is new?

I am one who believes that Irene began as a tropical system then went into a depression before becoming a storm. How much of the spin was produced by the media?
