Hey! Guys, I'm sorry I'm so lackadaisical when it comes to these posts.

I'd like to assert the fact that I've been trying to keep all of you in mind as poets when picking these words. Are there any words in particular you'd like to share with the community? PM me and it's a deal.

    RECALCITRANT
    -adj.
    -n

    Pronunciation:
    [ri-KAL-suh-trunt]

    Definition:
    - Adjective
    1. Stubbornly defiant of authority or control; disobedient.

    2. hard to deal with, manage, or operate

    - Noun (as a substantive adjective)
    1. A recalcitrant person

    Etymology:
1823, from Fr. recalcitrant, lit. "kicking back" (17c.-18c.), pp. of recalcitrare "to kick back," from re- "back" (see re-) + L. calcitrare "to kick," from calx (gen. calcis) "heel." Used from 1797 as a French word in English. Verb recalcitrate "to kick out" is attested from 1620s; sense of "resist obstinately" is from 1759.

    Quote with the word:
Although a firm swat could bring a recalcitrant child swiftly into line, the changes were usually external, lasting only as long as the swatter remained in view....Permanent transformation had to be internal....The habits of self discipline, as laborious and frustrating as they were to achieve, offered the only real possibility of keeping children safe from their own excesses as well as the omnipresent dangers of society.
    - Mary Kay Blakely, U.S. journalist, essayist, and author.

It reminds me of a medication for low calcium or something.

Haha! I could see that too. "Well Mrs. Hendrickson, it looks like your bones are recalcitrant. You need to drink more milk and take these vitamin pills for a month, and we'll check you again."

Yes, exactly!! I guess that would make sense still, your bones are stubborn... Lol
