    Lap 3 Round 13 Toilet

    Bathroom Sadness

Oh toilet, I wish I could carry
    you around with me.
    Then I could dispose
    all of my broken words
    that I don't want. I could
    get rid of the heart-breaks
    and the heart-breakers.
    Flush. There go
all the bad grades, the gossip,
    and the i-don't-love-yous.
    Alas, you remain
    in the bathroom. Perhaps
if i got the axe out.

    Lap 4 - Round 2 - Tanka

    sometimes I heard you
in the pauses of the rain
    singing the blues chords-

    Lap4~Round 3~ water

The rain danced across my eyelashes
You could not see my tears
I was drowning inside this watery abyss
And no one could see it
    Finally I felt alone

    Poor naked shoulder.

Lap 4 - round 5 - Include the word "microscope"

At night I feel like a burglar
    of my own body,

    I want to reach out

and dig through my ear -
    pull out brain cells,
    slivers of water
    and memories.

    And put them under
    a microscope
    just to find out
    that childhood
    has infected me.

Lap 4 Round 6 Wild Card - Free Verse

    Classrooms

    We didn't go to class
    today. Instead,
    you taught me
    about listening to stars,
    knitting scarves,
    and how to break hearts.

    Which comfort food
    is the best,
    and what television shows
    to watch when sad.

    I know now about
    the right songs for anger
    and for happiness.

You gave me a gold star
    for my progress, and
    we decided to not
    go back to school tomorrow.

    Lap 4 Round 7 - Cats

    Snooty Cat

I am the master of my fate
    With nine lives to spare
I take baths for a scratch
And strokes to lift my bum

But beware, for behind my charm
Is a devil with many eyes
Those who meet me in the dark
Peed their pants in mighty fright

    Lap 4 - round 8 - aabab rhyme scheme

    Medusa's hair looks like spaghetti
with too much tomato-rips scattered about like confetti
Her split ends burp Neruda's odes to any food
Including lover-meat, which makes them a bit sweaty
knowing that after dinner, they'll surely be screwed

    Introductions

A poet, you say. I could write
    about many, but really
the only I know are me. Do
    I qualify, I ponder, as a member
of P and Q? Or would it be
    a little conceited to write
    about myself, out of these
    hundreds of poets? Maybe it's
that I love you all, and
picking just one of you would
    be favouritism. You see, this
is the fair way to do it. Hello
    Poems and Quotes, I am
    Hayley. Nice to meet you.

    Lap4~Round 10~Alliterative

    Sadness slumped across her shoulders
Sullen, somber eyes sank to the ground
Salty streams of solitude, streaked her cheeks

    Lap 4 - round 12 - Halloween

    As a child,
    I saw
    princesses and witches
    carving pumpkins
as if it's fun to make your hands
    look like ten carrots
    and a palm.
    I never understood
    why they smiled as creepily
    as that wicked orange ball
    that doesn't bounce, but splatters
    when you throw it
    at those sparkly strangers.
    I never understood
what's the use of a knife
    on a holiday
    when you can't
    saw
    through a voodoo doll
    like cake.

    Perhaps they're insane.

    Peace

I never found anywhere more quiet
    More private
My thoughts echoed off the walls
As I purged myself of the day
    My mind was free
    Everything I needed
    Quiet
    Water
A mirror to stare at my broken reflection
    Now
    If only
This toilet could flush away this emotional waste

    Round 10 Lap 05 - Alliterative

    Music makes monstrous
beasts of the best of us.
    Its infectious incantations
    work their wild ways

    Skydive

Stepping into the clear space with you, and waiting
A millisecond for the violence of gravity to propel us

I saw a den by the river, painted red, in September.

    Demonic Haunting

    I am

    The mist at dawn
    that sneaks through your

    bead curtains

    Around. All around
    I would fill your nostrils
    with sulphur and brimestone
    ,til you choke, choke

    And die.

    Three knocks on your door
    Three taps on your wall

    And your soul could be

    Mine.

    Lap 5 - round 13 - toilet

I saw the way you flushed
    when I watered the bushes.
    You are an open-mouthed man
but tongue-tie when the most gentle
touch of mud reaches your lap.
I know you long for my lips
    to press against your cheek,
    and you'd flush even more
    when you realise that queens
have to wipe their cheeks too.

    But toilet, you and I
    live in different worlds,
    blankets and towels
    just aren't the same
    and I'd rather sleep within
    the cosiness of beds
    than the coldness
    of bathtubs.

    Lap 6 - Round 3 - Water

    Wednesday nights

    Wednesday night is largely quiet,
but for the occasional car ambling up the hill road,
and the intermittent rattle of wheelie bins
being put out to form a guard of honour
    at the end of driveways.

I like to take out the bin when it is raining,
(not too heavily, but a persistant drizzle, or mist.)
I turn on the outside light so it glows a pale orange
and then I want to run like a child.
Observing the precipitating night, I contemplate
the water around the world. Filtering through
the gills of migrating salmon, carrying plankton
to the Basking Shark, quenching the thirst
of a gum tree in Tasmania.

And on Wednesday nights, when conditions are right,
the closeness of moisture on my skin and aqua
in my veins, makes me run the semi-dark lawn
    like a gazelle.

    Stupidity cannot be cured
    Though knowledge may prevent
    The plethora of laughter

Lap 6 - round 5 - Include the word "microscope"

    There are leaves outside
    that curl and shine
    after the mid-day rain,

    whether they
    fall upon your sleeve
    as a piece of tissue
    from the sky;
    lock inside of glass
    beneath the microscope;
    or struggle to rise forth
    from the jarred earth
    beside your sunless window ...

    they are, and shall
    forever be
    the scattered pieces of art,
    by the name of
    life.

    Lap 6 Round 7 - cat

    My white socks take me
    wherever I want to go.
    My master does not know.

    I walk along the street,
    crawling beneath cars,
    then around the corner
    and up the hill
where at night I can see stars.
    I meet many strange creatures,
    some of which I kill,
but the others I run away from
for I don't like their bark.
Then I take myself back home
    through the winding roads.
    I don't need a map, I know
    exactly where to go.
    Then in through the cat-flap
    that's there just for me.
I give myself a wash, and smile,
for I'm home in time for tea.
