    Lap 1
    Round 1
    21 syllables

    Differentiate the tastes
    of sweet and sour,
    as bitterness only proves nothing.

  • Melpomene

    Lap 1
    Round 2
    Tanka

    She is fighting me.
    Lost somewhere in amsterdam,
    bra smothering breasts
    and lips puckered on starburst.
    What a trashy little muse.

    Lap 1
    Round 3
    Water

    It was a summer afternoon
when I met her turquoise eyes while
skirting the Pacific for the first time -
waves curled their toes in seaweed
    and stumbled upon shore,
    gently tickling mine with kisses;
It was then my dream came true.

    Lap 1
    Round 4
    Free Verse

    Call me a strumpet,
    pink and rubbered,
    thrashing here, there
    a flower floundered,
    subtly stalked, stomped splashed...
    my currents baffle miniature shores.
A sashay leaves a satisfying squelch
    in muffled, molded, mysterious depths.
My boots leave the best marks
    in puddles.

    Lap1
    Round 5
    Include the word microscope

    No use

    Even when hypocrisy
    was all I had left
    to cover these jumbled
    emotions,

    It was no use..

    Everyone knew my
    heart was placed under
    a microscope..

    and they found it infected
    with feelings for you

    Lap 1
    Round 6 Wildcard (5 lines.. round 11)

How do I write a masterpiece
    about our wonderful abracadabra,
    in a mere five lines?
That allows me no time to discuss in length
her beauty, her magic, her undesirable features!

  • Melpomene

    Lap 1
    Round 7
    Cats

    Thump thump thump thump thump.

    blades of grass lash legs
    as though they'd tangoed with
the hunt far too many times.

    Somewhere in the middle of
    no where, a leg buckles,
    she skids, slides, tumbles
    with a thump, thump, thump,
    thump, thump..... THUMP.

Only to become a black and
    white suit reddened by wine.

Lap 1 Round 8- aabab rhyme scheme

    Let Me Be

I looked into your crystal eyes
And could not believe such beautiful lies
    Glistening blue, like gems-o-the sea
I wish they'd let loose, cut ties
    Let me be

  • Narphangu

    Lap 1
    Round 9
    PnQ Member

    I clump you with
    the thickly spoken,
    wicked tongued sighs
that caress and shelve a woman.
Eyes to eyes and eyes to thighs,
    then carefully proceed
    delicate and precise:
    gracious as sworded thieves.

    Lap 1
    Round 10
    Alliterative verse

    He was racy,
    rebellious,
    and reliable
    running near a river
like a rabbit in the rain
    he roared and ripped,
    reckoned her heartbeats
    for she was radiant,
    reluctant
    and radical
    but to her,
    he was reckless,
    ridiculous and rubbish.

    Lap 1

    Round 11 Five Lines

    There is something interesting
    about the enveloping beauty
of a man in thought -
his dark broodiness proves strong and silent
by the creases in his forehead.

    Lap 1
    Round 12
    Halloween

    Monday the 31st

    Pumpkin, pumpkin
    in a patch
    Big black kitty
    screechy scratch

    Hooting owls
    in a tree
    ghosts and goblins
    stay away from me

    Haunted house
    on the hill
    creepy spider
    on the window sill

    Trick or treat
    knock knock knock
    kids go creeping
    around the block

    Halloween,
    oh what a delight
    dressed to the hilt
    on a Monday night

    Lap 1
    Round 13
    Toilet

I sit upon your pearly white lap
    drizzling yellow sunshine
    into your pearly white mouth,
like splashing watercolor onto paper -
as I flush all my happiness, you gurgle
    then swallow, licking your lips.

    Lap 2

    Lap 2
    Round 3
    Water

    Drips of disaster wash away
    forgotten hardships,
    beads of sweat slowly rolling
over inch by inch of your body.
    A vague thirst encompasses
    your dry, scratchy throat,
    begging for the cool liquid
    to slowly pass your lips
    as I once did.

    Lap 2
    Round 4
    Free verse

    Inhibited

    A jumble of thoughts
    crowd line after line
    no breaks, no pauses

    yet my thoughts have become
    inhabited by a deep compulsion
    to wash my mind

    1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3

    until I am completely
    in control
    and no longer enslaved
by the need for you to

    make me feel normal

  • Courageous Dreamer

    Lap 2
    Round 5
    Include the word 'microscope'

    It's like gazing with
    golf ball sized eyes
    through a microscope -
for truth is swollen like a pumpkin,
    yet you refuse to believe,
    for sometimes you have to
    follow your heart.

    Lap 2
    Round 6
    Wild Card [Free Verse]

Too many times I've danced with you,
your lips skimming all the right places,
the cracks of my heart and pulse of thy neck
And like a chameleon you'd camouflage,

    Your fingertips seducing mine, yet
even when the sun sets in the west

I still want you and all of your beauty.

    Lap 2 Round 7- cats

Black and white, shades of gray
    Some orange and brown
Toy mouse, cat nip, water bowl
Plenty of hair is on the ground

    Beautiful eyes, little cold noses
So soft and cuddly is their fur
    They sleep like babies anywhere
And feel so loved when they pur

    Lap 2
    Round 8 aabab rhyme scheme

    Oh How Cliche -

    How can I promise you
    sloppy dreams come true,

    making me turn so blue,
how can you leave me be?

    Lap 2
    Round 9
    P&Q Member

Time, Memories and All That Blooms

She writes of daisy chains and
    lady beetles 'pon her shoulder,
    of Time and Memories and
    All That Blooms.

    And with each line
she touches me with a feeling
    so deep,
    perhaps sometimes a smile
    brushes my cheek or
a sigh quivers in my being.

For it is between those lines
I find parts of me that
    I have hidden too.

She reminds me of Autumn ,
    for she wears life
    around her wrist.
    A delicate chain of
    compassion, love and friendship.

    She is ...
    a soothing voice
    that I have never heard,
    yet in my mind

    I know exactly
    what she sounds like

    Lap 2
    Round 10
    Alliterative Verse

    After a sleepy slumber -
    you'll often find her hair
    plated like Pebble's,
    perched pon her head like
    a fierce flame flourescent
wrapped in a blazing bright white
    bow light as snow.

  • Yakari Gabriel

    Lap 2
    Round 11
    five lines

    I placed my heart
    within your own,
for you were dear to me.
but tonight your true colors showed
and I find myself loving a hypocrite.

  • Melpomene

    Lap 2
    Round 12
    Halloween

    My neighborhoods costume
    is the wild west with
    pavement cracked and the
orange I see is that of a
    sunset, abstracted in mind
    with the face of a
    Jack-o-lantern.

    Wicked bats nibble my
    mango tree and too often
    I've thought of grabbing
    a sling-shot -

    but bats morph into vampires
and I still hear my mothers
    shrill voice warning me
    of how Dracula holidays in
    Australia,

    perches his bottle of
bloody wine on your veranda and
    sings of sex in the
    raunchiest way.

    Sometimes Halloween
    slips my mind and
the only skeleton I see is
    my imagination in the mirror.

    Lap 2
    Round 13 Toilet

    Who can write a poem
    that sounds classy and elegant
    about a toilet?
    The noises and smells
that come from this porcelain throne
    are like no other -
we must not speak of this anymore.

    Lap 3
    Round 2

    coconuts hang from

with their hair fanned miles wide -
    soaking tropical sunshine.

    Lap 3
    Round 3
    Water

From the mountains of the Cascades
to the glass in my hand.
    A brisk refreshment enjoyed,
as I sit on these sands.
    Nowhere in the world
    is it more pure
    then right here at home,
    of this I am sure.
    Water from Washington,
    so sweet and cold.
    The perfect treat,
    for young and old.

  • Yakari Gabriel

    Lap 3
    Round 4
    free verse

    You sit there so comfortable
    in your silence,

    and my mind
    drifts with thoughts
    of you..
    involved in some wild act.

    blushing as
    I picture you,
    topless...

    with water cascading
    all over your sensitive
    curves..

    I become a river
    running with desire..

    Lap 3
    Round 5 Use word microscope

I long to live in a world
    where my promiscuity remains shameful,
my gossip and lies are frowned upon
by more than just my elders.

I long to live in a world
    where I am held accountable
for my actions and reactions -
troubles gazed at through a microscope.

I long to live in a world
where my innocence will be protected,
and my hope for a better future
be a hope full of fulfilling promises,
instead of the broken lies I receive.

    Lap 3
    Round 6
    WiLd CaRd (free verse)

    Skulking,
    grime ground
    under fingernails, forced
    under logs and flung,
    flying, dirt everywhere
    decomposing down, down
    to a squirreling slink,
    slimy stashed,
    Mister Salamander,
    I say,
    I win.

    Lap 3
    Round 7
    Cats

    They can be
    Persian, Siamese,
    or anything in between -
    triangle faces or round,
    dressed in fur or skinned
and as shriveled as a prune
    like the Sphynx.

    With noses of gumdrops,
who could resist a sweet nibble
on the nose, or a gentle stroke
of a furry tail against your cheek,
like an artist painting a canvas -
    they are an art.

    Lap 3
    Round 8
    aabab

Typing these empty words on a blank pad,
without emotion or thought is really quite sad.
Thank goodness this contest only lasts a week,
because this could become a fad.
I don't always want to write like a geek.

    Lap 3
    Round 11
    Five Line

She has rolls of insecurity, heavy, languid steps
a confident smile, smartly dressed in red

who didn't see her in her startling glory,
    rather, they were startled away.

    Lap 3
    Round 12
    Halloween

    Although dressed like one,
    I was never a stripper..

    I swoop
    from door to door,
    displaying my gluttony
    for all to see..

    they all thought
    they'd satisfy me,

    Lap 3
    Round 13
    Toilet

Dawning my throne, septor at the side.
Preparing for war, pain, struggle and pride.
I will push to the limits,
    then flush them all away.
Force out the evils that build up within,
like an exorcist, driving away sin.
Ruling the world from the porcelain throne,
tabloid in hand, releasing a groan.
