Where the heck are my club members!?

  • Jordan

I had to work today. Calm yerself, darlin'!

Changing the prompts after so many rounds would be pretty cool, I must say.

  • silvershoes

I happen to agree. A change of prompts would do nicely in a day or 2.

  • abracadabra

Burning out eh? Prompts won't be changed till nearer the end of the contest. Keep those poetic juices flowing, don't lose quality!

I feel sad reading Poetess' notes of despair, and I know some others will be feeling the same. This competition may seem like it's all about winning. And winning feels really good. And, okay, winning is the objective and will receive glory.

But the main reason for holding this contest is to exhibit your club's striving, undefeated spirit, working as a team. I wanted to see how a contest about representing your family makes more people come out of the woodwork. Otherwise, I would have asked people to simply form their own teams with those members who showed interest, and only the same 15 who participate in every contest would have volunteered. (Now that this marathon-type contest has got a wide exposure, I shall be asking for votes of interest and forming your own teams next time...when that happens)

This really is a marathon. As Larry said, the victory lies in making it over the finish line, no matter what.

    ********UPDATE... AMNESTY**************
Those who chopped off heads last night are allowed to bring one team member back to life.
This is the power of contest magic. Please let me know which member you want back and I'll unscratch them from your list.

    -------------

Mods, after a discussion between me and the club leader has ended, can you please remove it from the club's thread, leaving only the poems. Thank you!

Master scoreboard updated, as of 19:20 4 Oct.

MM continue their roaring pace, shooting far ahead into their fith lap!

TC's cracking pace appears to fading, though this could just be the eye of the storm...

Meanwhile LTFR has suddenly reared forward, while FOP are setting the standards in poem quality. WITNIS has called upon its members to have heart and power on to the end- there are still 5 days to go!

Stay tuned for a twist later on...

    Britt!

"Fire and miles only have one syllable. If you're in doubt, check the dictionary."

"That is beyond strange... Fire and miles have two! Lol"

It depends on dialect/idiolect. In my speech, they only have one. For me, the vowel is a diphthong rather than 2 single vowels separated by a palatal glide [y]. I'm backing Abby on this one. Although there is definitely room for variation, I think that they are traditionally monosyllabic words.

    GO LINGUISTICS!

  • Britt

I don't know what the hell you just said, but with my pacific northwestern drawl, they have two! Lol. I'll dictionary it next time for all you crazies lol

  • Jordan

    Sorry, I'm an ass.

    Maybe this makes more sense:

When I say "fire" it rhymes with the 'pir' in pirate as opposed to sounding something like "fiyur."

So instead of having a consonant between two vowels I just have one vowel with no consonants.

  • Britt

So foreign to me. I say fire like fiyur. I may be hillbilly lmao

  • Jordan

    Haha nah, yer cute.

  • silvershoes

No one freak out. I'm going through and deleting all non-poem posts in the competition threads.

  • Britt

I was gonna ask you to do ours, I didn't realize that's where I posted to Abby lol

  • silvershoes

Yeah sorry... deleted that! Should've copy-pasted it here I guess.

    I'm done.

EDIT: Lap 4, Round 13, LUANNE - best toilet poem so far, I reckon. Well done. If ever a poem could make me reflect fondly on times shared with my toilet, this was it.

"Oh we had many good times
    my friend,
though sadly you have only seen
    the worst parts of me."

  • abracadabra

Yes, the Toilet round is everything I hoped it would be. I think that round has received more 10s than anything else.

Also like seeing so many poems dedicated to me...it's terribly hard to remain unbiased in that scenario, but I'm trying! (work it, work IT)

Sooooooo.... I'm curious how the different clubs are handling this marathon. Any tears? Any break-ups? Any organisation? Any heart attacks (Larry?)? Any poems which have surprised you?

    *Thanks Jane!

  • silvershoes

Abby, too bad you can't be a participant AND host. We could use your presence on the TC team to help us kick butt.

Lack of overlapping availability is becoming a slight problem for TC. Wouldn't have minded eliminating 2 members and shortening the wait between posting poems by one, lol

  • abracadabra

I fondly like to think of Hellon as taking my place in this contest, stepping in and representing TC where I couldn't. What a champion. And what no way can I write poems as fast as that foxy demon can.

But yeah, it's pretty weird judging my club against other clubs. I hope people are generally okay with my scoring. It's frikkin hard.

  • silvershoes

Hellon is helping us ridiculous amounts, but I consider her an honorary member regardless of the contest.

    -Winks at Hellon-

  • abracadabra

By the way, you can still shorten your round number, but the initial cost is FOUR members.

  • silvershoes

Then I can do the amnesty thing?

  • nouriguess

I want my boyfriend back, Abby! Lol :P

  • abracadabra

Oh yeah, I suppose you can, Jane. You can eliminate one round while using the Amnesty to only delete three team members. This is irreversible though.

WTMNIS and LTFR have both used up their Amnesties.

    ***************TWIST! TWIST!***************

Over the next few days, there will be various "Happy Hour Deals" during the Marathon.

    Tomorrow's Happy Hours:

4:00-5:00 6 Oct: All entered poems will be worth triple points! (Deal #1)

20:00-21:00 6 Oct: The number of rounds to wait will be halved for each team! (Deal #2)

Any poems submitted a minute out of the Happy Hour will not be counted as part of the Happy Hour Deal.
These times are random and these deals will pop up again in the next few days. DON'T MISS OUT!

*****Each club can also select up to three Happy Hours of their choice during the Marathon! Simply post "HAPPY HOUR # (1, 2 or 3) STARTS NOW!" with your choice of Deal# (1 or 2) on top of the poem submitted, and the next hour will be run as "Happy" for your team.

    Enjoy!

How is it that TC has 6 people but only have to wait for 2 rounds

but LTFR has 10 & has to wait 6 rounds.

that adds one full wait for each member more than TC

  • abracadabra

LTFR's original team was huge with about 16 or 17 members, giving you a much longer wait period to compensate. Your team chose to eliminate 6 players to decrease by 2 rounds. It was your team's decision to isolate the most active of the active to help generate more poems.

  • nouriguess

We are 8 members and we have to wait 4 rounds.
TC has 6 they have to wait for 2 rounds. :/

  • Larry Chamberlin

    Hmmmm . . .

  • Saerelune

I think because your original amount of people was 17, so you guys had to wait 8 rounds (17/2 and then round down). You guys probably eliminated 4 people first, which resulted in a waiting time of 7 rounds. Then you eliminated 3 people, which results in a waiting time of 6 rounds.

    Oops, lol, I am slow.

Hey Abby, wil the contest still last til sunday 0.00 or are we doing one day less?

Anf if it's sunday 0.00 ... would that be the end of saturday or the end of sunday, lol?

  • nouriguess

Our original members number was 11, and our rounds number was 5... o.O

  • abracadabra

All club leaders were given exactly the same message asking for their active club members. All clubs were given the wait round numbers according to the same formula, depending on the active size of the club given to me. All clubs were subsequently given the same choices to eliminate their members to isolate an even more active portion, knowing what the cost was.

Some clubs are lucky- they have friends on phones and facebook and can notify each other when it's their turn (TC doesn't to my knowledge). Others may not have many who live in the same time zone, which is unlucky. Some just have lots and lots of time to spare at the moment, and can be online all day long.

Work with it. And have a laugh.

On a side note, let it be known that within TC, days and weeks can easily go by without a single post being made. Only six members regularly log in- that is an honest fact. It is probably the least active club here, normally.

    ---------------
Mera, at this stage, the contest length hasn't been shortened and we are sticking to the original end time. I think the teams are really starting to get into the rhythm of it now. However, if people are getting tired, I am willing to cut the contest by 1 or 2 days. Let me know.

  • abracadabra

Yes, Poetess. It was. 11-4=7 members, giving you 5-1=4 rounds to wait as promised. Then with the Amnesty, you have 7+1=8 team members.

In fact, it was everything you asked for.

  • nouriguess

Yes, I see. I'm not saying that something is unfair, no, it is just our club is usually active, all members submit poems daily. But this week everyone has finals and they are all busy even me, I am logging in without moms permition, lol. So, I was a bit decieved. It is ok, I'm enjoying this contest, it is just about time, got me? :)

  • Larry Chamberlin

    Things happen, we accept that.

    No complaints.

  • Saerelune

Hey Abby, thanks for reminding me on the Amnesty. That means FOP will only kick out Kiko and Dollwithafrown.

And I have a question. If we have to wait 5 rounds now, and it's happy hour tomorrow, we only have to wait 2,5 rounds. Would that mean 2 rounds or 3 rounds then?
