    Lap 12
    Round 12
    Halloween

    Fruit on Halloween Sucks

    A pumpkin glowing bright
    for it's Halloween tonight

    As darkness starts to creep
    it's time for trick-or-treat

    Ghosts in their finest sheet
    and little devil looking neat

    Time to make the rounds
first the Nelson's then the Brown's

Candy bags filled to the brim
    pumpkin candle growing dim

House to house must move quick
    final countdown starts to tick

Hurry, hurry just one more stop
no time to skip, dance or hop

Finally home with all the loot
dump the bag, damn another fruit !

    Toilet

    I woke this morning to
    find you violated, your
    face flushed yet
    someone had their tongue
    shoved down your throat.

    They were dribbling and
    uninvited, paws like a
    pervert resting on your
    cheeks -

    I guess he'd never
    tasted anything sweeter,
    for his water was full
    but he wanted
    your saliva instead

    Free Verse

    Turning 40

    Time, was once like
    a leaky facet
    dripping in seconds
    that seemed to last forever.

    As they followed me through
    my teens years
    they gained an impulse
    to move quicker, as
    with each year I grew
    more and more eager to
    visit the local bar
    to twist my hips
    and bend my elbow
    to my lips

    Yet now ...
    nearing that 40th year
the sand slips far too quickly
    and the moon is rarely
    within my glimpse.

And in 4 days, 6 hour and
    22 minutes another decade
    will fall upon my lap
with a thump and grey will
    perch in my hair -

    unwanted

    Zantedeschia's curve round
    my arms like slinkies and
    my mouth swelled with blisters
every time our lips dance -

    You always knew how to
    breathe down my throat like
    oxygen,

    yet when placed
    under a microscope I saw
    it was you who was
    making me sick and
    irritating my heart.

    Scars bruise her mind
    as memories old
    and new collide.
    Her heart a battle field
    where tiny soldiers
    burrow into the depths

    waking her in cold sweats

    Cairns,

    Crikey Crocs cross crossings cross-eyed,
    crickets create constant chirps while
causing cool cats to go crazy.
Course I love it here, cousin!
    Cyclones cruising casually behind
    closed curtains, cops cursing
    crappy motorists, can't say
    I've lived anywhere more chaotic.

    Halloween

    I cringed when the cornstalks
    rustled in the breeze -
    goosebumps rose upon my skin,
for I was trapped in a maze lit
    with lanterns and crooked smiles.

An eerie silence filled the air
    as chainsaws chuckled -
    I quivered, gritting my teeth,
for it seemed as though someone
    was breathing down my neck,
    taunting me as shadows scintillated
    around me like witches dancing
    'round their cauldron tossing in
    bits of flesh -

    luckily though it was just
    the spirit of Halloween.

    Water

    we sat there,
    for days upon days..

the sun made fun of us,
    we looked tired,
    and our mesmerizing
    colors were starting to fade

    we got weak,
    and bowed down..
    we accepted defeat..

    you would never come,
no matter how much we loved you.

    our colors,
    didn't light you up..
    like your color-less
    presence would change us.

    you took to long
    to show up..

and as I took my last breath.
    I died wishing I was a cactus.

    passed away,
    wishing..
    that I could've
    keep on living without you...

    water.

    You were camouflaged that day,
    latched upon that dumpster
that heaped full of garbage -
as I nearly placed my fingertips
upon your rigid back like braille,
    blinded by your presence.

    I leaped towards the skies
just as you would 'tween lily pads,
    which made me wonder suddenly
why you weren't in that mossy pond
where you belonged to begin with -

    now I'm haunted.

    She's a reflection of who I am,
    guided by a moonlit muse
who leads her along the paths
    of mythology and flowers,
while I too speak of metaphors
    stuffed with symbolism.

    Often we find ourselves
trapped within the art of baking,
nibbling on scones late in the night -
    our aprons chalked with colors

for a pony and he said he'd
    teach me how to ride...

They men in blue said his lips were
    wrinkled like salty plums but
    between the beard and a

    water

    61 Days

    Today my mother
    soaked cotton balls
to wet our lips. I could
see the moisture form in the
corner of her eyes as the
    last ounce of water took
but only a moment to soak
    in the moisture.The sun
    beamed so wildly those weeks
that you could smell the grass
    burning when the winds leaped
    across the fields.

    Each night Ma and Pa
    bowed their heads at
the dinner table, and I knew
    the silence that echoed
from the four walls of our tiny
    house meant they were praying
    for water again.

And each night I had dreams
    of tiny rain drops bouncing
    into Mother's little yellow teapot,
her hands on her hips, she'd be
fussing "who gone and taken my teapot
outside again" and all us youngins
would giggle and say "not me Ma"

And on the 61st day the clouds
    came, bouncing and dodging in
and out of the sun. Then the winds
grew and grew and our breathes died.
I remember Ma in her red dress and
yellow apron twirling around and around,
her shoes flinging mud with each twirl.
And Papa, I never saw him so happy.

The rain pounced into the night
and on through the next day. But
    we never complained. And Ma
never told us once to wash our feet.

And since that year, I have always
    hated the taste of dust
    in my mouth.
